National and codes...

gail..

why would i call when you have already and they have stated to you that you do not have to show it

perhaps, they should update their rules to reflect this

if you had included the above information in your post

Drivers license, coupon, and credit card.

perhaps it would have made a difference ( you had "information" due to your contact with National that we could not infer from your helpful short statement )

you still did not answer my query ....

am wondering what you are meaning by this statement

Consider the source and let it go!!! ?????

and after reading a subsequent post by you about not having any hard feelings towards anyone

that "statement" would seem to "blow off" the poster to whom you are referring as posting useless information and thus it should be taken with a "grain of salt"

finally, and do not know if this is true or not.....maybe a debit card with a "major logo" on it, is mistaken as a "credit card"

so you are saying they have accepted your debit card as a credit card

1. does a debit card have similar information that is input into the master rental agreement since the profile i am looking at on EC definitely says "credit card number, credit card type, expiration date"

something does not add up there

and

2. what happens when you return the car, can the "agent" checking you in, print you out a receipt on the spot or do you have to go to the counter to "settle" up

am thinking about using my debit card in the future if we can get it by national

it appears that I am not alone in not having to produce the EC card.

from the blanket statement

i think they must be profiling just me then, since you seemingly assert being asked to produce the EC card does not happen very often

i must be the only one

Why would you call? To verify what I told you as true. Perhaps they should update the rules or perhaps they have changed them and they are reflected in what you quoted, it has been a few months since I called.

The comment was made to the poster who said she liked facts but did not like the attitude. (not a quote). I told her to consider the source and let it go. As in, not to worry. As to useless information, I don't think it was useless, he was retelling what happened to him. As I said, we can all learn. And, I don't have any hard feelings. Actually, I have no feelings towards that poster.

As to the debit card, I have one with the MC logo on it. I was told they are not accepted, however, I have been using mine all along with no problems.
My debit card has the 16 digits all mc card have it begins with " 5" just like all mc do and has an expiration date and three number code on the back.
When we check the car back in, the process is completed right in the garage, except when they messed up a couple of times and overcharged us, then we went to the counter. National is a great company, but, they do make errors. Not a big deal it was fixed quickly.
If it bounces you out when you try to register it, then you will know that they know.
I have always thought it odd that our MC/debit card works. Never thought to question it, however.

perhaps it would have made a difference ( you had "information" due to your contact with National that we could not infer from your helpful short statement )

I try to keep comments to a minimum, I don't like to share my personal life or my activities unless it truly relates to helping others. This, I felt was personal. If the information was not "beefy" enough, I apologise. However, a query as to how I knew or are you sure about this would have been much nicer than a " you are wrong" you "don't know" attitude. We have posted for a long time and by now you should know that I don't post junk. It is from personal experience or from reading. We have both been comparing and renting from National for at least 5 years now and I believe we both know the rules rather well, however, they do change.
I believe we have hijacked this thread long enough. I apologise the OP and the other readers for taking this WAY off the original question.
Any more discussion on this should be kept to pms.

I doubt that. :) Try not handing it to them next time and see if the information on the reservation suffices.

To verify what I told you as true

precisely why i would not call, since if you have had contact with national, then, what you set out in your post was information that they gave you, that was at odds with their policy ( not your fault )

but, it was "clarification" of why you did not present your card

and clarification is all my lil o mind needs

with respect to your private message, if that is your true feeling about what is going on here......

then they do have an ignore button you can use to "isolate" inquiring minds

Consider the source and let it go!!! I also appreciate the facts, if they are accurate.

If my attitude was poor I apologize but I am also tired of Gail's attitude.

I post the rules and I am told that I am still incorrect.

I do not claim to know it all - unlike Gail - who seems to be a know-it-all and this is getting old.

Last year I was asked for my EC card at gate. That is all I know. You may have been treated differently. Rules are rules.

Sorry, but, I don't feel I know it all and I constantly learn from this board. I believe it was you that came on like gang busters and told me I was wrong.

If you do not like my posts or my information, use the ignore feature.

I have no need to isolate your inquiring mind, I rather enjoy your posts. It is my true feeling and perhaps you could take the tiime to quell this inquiring mind. :) Have a nice day.

just a side note - there is nothing personal at all from me going on here, as I know there is none from Gail. Love You Gail.

gotta ponder this for a bit. hmmm. quell inquiring mind?

a final comment on this ...

from reviewing other posts ....this is not the first time bg4's posts have been "questioned" by gail

thus, i can see from rereading this POST that

bg4 oriiginally posted :

You have to have a Emerald Club Card to use EA

On way out they want to see drivers license, credit card and Emerald Club Card- unknown about coupon-bring it if you have it.

then right after that post there was one by gail saying

Drivers license, coupon, and credit card

which in her experience was "right" for her, but i can see that it might have been "construed" as saying ( although probably not meant that way, since she did quote janets in her post ) bg4's post was in error ( coming right after his post ) ...she was not particularly responding to him with her answer

but with respect to gail's assertion

I believe it was you that came on like gang busters and told me I was wrong.

from my viewpoint, his response seemed to happen in response to something you said in this thread regarding information he had posted

i too would have probably reacted differently to your post if i had already been "questioned" on another thread about the information i had been posting on these boards...there are two sides to every issue as we all know

we all have different experiences dealing with the companies we talk about, but none of us have the "whole" picture of the ins and outs of the policies or even if the policies are adhered to by the employees serving those companies....that is exactly why we post what we have "experienced"

Not to add fuel to the fire... :) but for a while back around 2001 and 2002 National was allowing people the option to not physically receive Emerald Club cards when they signed up. There were a number of posts here on the DIS about it as a matter of fact. A number of posters then opted to not phyisically receive the card. They were promoting it as something where you didn't have to carry one more peice of plastic in your wallet.

From what I recall, as long as you had the credit card you used to book the reservation with, i.e., a credit card that is associated with your Emerald Club profile, they could get access to your Emerald Club informtion at the checkout booth that way. These people, at least at that time wouldn't even have a card to give to the checkout clerk. Recently National has sent me a new card, maybe they sent one to everyone not sure. All that being said, there have been times when I have not automatically handed them my EC card and it was not a problem. However if you have one it would probably be in your best interest to carry it with you on your trip.

I'm one of those people who signed up for the EC back in 2001 when National was running a free membership offer. You could sign up on-line and would get your EC member number immediately. Getting an actual card was optional, so I didn't bother. I have been renting at least 4 times a year (at Orlando and other locations) using the EC member site and have never been asked to show my EC card when checking out. In fact, I never had a card until sometime this spring when one arrived in the mail about the time National made various changes to the EC program and the Emerald Aisle operation. Even so, I've rented twice since then and was still not asked for my EC card, although I do now carry it with when renting in case I need it at some point. I just hand the kiosk attendant my driver's license, credit card, coupon, and a copy of the reservation confirmation. I always ask them to confirm that the rental rate agrees with the information printed on the confirmation. I've never had a problem with any overcharges when returning the car, so I cannot say whether this makes any difference, but it serves as a precaution. I always have a spare copy of this confirmation sheet because some attendants have kept mine along with the coupon while other times it is returned to me. I want to have a copy in case the actual charges end up being higher than the confirmation rate.

Lighten up folks, we're talking about Disney!:bounce:

This started out to be a really helpful thread and a few egos turned it into "I know you are, but what am I?"

out of maybe 5 rentals I was asked once to show my Emerald Club card (and these were all for Emerald Reserve, not Emerald Aisle). I didn't have it with me that time. They just looked it up in the computer, apparently, because they didn't make a stink about it.

I was not asked for my EA card either. I followed the advice Gail gave me and everything went perfectly. I handed the attendant my printed email confirmation, coupon, driver's license and credit card. She punched some buttons on her computer, confirmed the price and we were on our way. I had the card with me but it wasn't needed. Goes to show that everyone's experience can be different and there is no need to accuse someone of being wrong because his/her advice is different from yours. Thanks to Gail's help my experience with EA was great and I can't wait to use them on our next trip.

I just rented last week and was not asked for my Emerald Club card. I had it on hand just in case. I gave the guard my driver's license and credit card plus my entertainment coupon and confirmation printout. Gail knows what's going on in the car rental world and I trusted her advice. She did not steer me wrong.:D EA was so simple.::yes::

I had signed up for EC a couple of years ago but never used it. I made a reservation with National and didn't even tie it to my reservation but when I picked up the car at MCO she mentioned that we were EC members and offered us that option. We used it because we wanted to make sure we had plenty of space and it worked great to pick out our own store. Never showed anyone my card, not really sure I still have it.
