National - additional driver

We have signed up for the Emerald Club and have a reservation in April. The contract says 4 additional drivers are included. I emailed National to get clarification as to how many drivers we can have and what, if any the fees are. They've responded a few times, but I'm still not getting the full answer. Do any of you know the rules with this? We have mini van on hold - plan is for myself and spouse to be a driver, as well as a friend. I know my spouse will be covered as a free driver, but it is unclear as to the friend if there will be an extra fee. I also called National the other day - twice- to ask this question. The first time I was told it was $10 a day for the friend. The 2nd time I was told there was no fee for the 4 drivers - there were no rules as to the additional driver being a spouse or employee. The email I got did mention there was a difference between additional drivers vs authorized drivers. I am confused and don't want any surprises upon driving off the lot. Any help would be appreciated!

I don't know, lol. I signed in under Emerald Club and used a BJ's coupon. My friend is also renting via National and is says the same thing. I'm now thinking only the authorized driver is free, but we can have up to 4 drivers for a fee. Can't find anything concrete on the website and getting different answers is frustrating.

The Emerald club includes 4 additional drivers free. However they must be spouse/family members. So you would either need to pay for your friend, don't let him drive or fib. Only you can decide which avenue to pursue.

Do you know what the fee is and if there is a cap on the extra driver fee? I'm still waiting to hear back from National. I think it is $10/day.... but I haven't seen anything that clearly states that.

I was told by customer service in Tampa that the extra drivers are free. Got an email stating that as well. Guess we will see what happens when we get there!
