Nasty neighbor, venting to try and control my temper

I am checking the tax records to see if he actually owns the property, if it's possible to find out. It's pretty odd because I can search online and get tax records for almost any place and this is not showing up at all.

Then you can call the auditor's office and give them the address and get the information that way!

If he is a summer tenant I would have an easier time dealing with it. I am sure more problems will come up. It is a very busy block.

You continue to escalate the issue, why ? You are not looking to avoid this property, you appear to be trying to further engage the conflict.

Somehow, I don't believe you are telling the whole story .

I wish you luck, that you find the path of least resistance.

I don't call finding out as much information as she can about this nutcase, "escalating the issue".

Thank you very much, I did read the entire thread. I believe she admitted she should not have reacted to his confrontation. Lesson learned. Going forward, should she allow him to bully her to the point she should change her route? I urged her to find out what she could about this individual.

The OP continues to want to "stir the pot" by trying to get any agency possible to act on this individual. Instead of just walking another way, the OP posts about finding ways to support her attempts to validate her actions. Since we only have half the story, it is tough to advocate continued confrontation.

Where is she trying to get any agency possible to act on this individual??? :confused3 Where are these posts about finding ways to support her attempts to validate her actions???:confused3 Some people are hotheads, some are dangerous hotheads. I'm urging her to check into that. How is that confrontational???:confused3

Um, not getting any agency I can involved. But if I know who owns the house if I have a problem in the future I will be able to proceed in another way. If it is a summer tenant I can certainly contact the homeowner and let them know their tenant is causing a problem. Also realtors are an excellent source of help if it is a summer tenant. These are ways to correct the problem if it occurs again without involving the police. Not planning on dancing on the man's front lawn with my dogs. But this is half a block from my house in front of two stores I go to on a regular basis. Not planning on walking two blocks out of my way to not go past his house if I find myself faced with the situation I had last time. His house takes up an entire block. Pretty tough to completely avoid. I have walked through this neighborhood, where I live, volunteer, work, and own businesses for years. Because some crazy man threatens me is not a reason to now change everything I do. However, I also care about my animals and don't plan on making trouble. But I hope you don't see the news some time this summer where a child is burned because a cigarette was dropped on a gasoline soaked area and caught on fire when the child was walking by.

Excellent advice. And may I add...time to let go of trying to find out details about this neighbor. Walk your dogs the other direction. Let things cool down.

This. And OP, I understand being upset. However, the more you make it your mission to find out about him, look up property records, etc., the more it is going to fuel your anger and outrage.

It stinks but for your own safety and sanity you need to try to forget about it and let it go.

Do not understand, let alone agree with the attitude that pursuing the threat of dumping toxic/hazardous substances is confrontational or stirring the pot. I would absolutely be all over that problem with the appropriate authorities. I also wouldn't be altering my life routines to go out of my way to avoid the direction of this home. I'd give it wide berth, particularly to avoid the hazardous substances likely to be lurking, and I certainly wouldn't be engaging with the whackadoodle whatsoever, but walking down that block as it meets my needs nonetheless.

I own property in an area that is predominantly vacation homes. When I looked at the property records once, I found out that a very large percentage of them are owned either by trusts or LLCs or other sorts of partnerships that do not, in fact, show the actual individuals name. Maybe that's why you can't find out who the owner of his house is?

Just to be safe you might consider a federal freedom of information act request once you have his name. Information from the FBI or CIA might prove useful.

In most cities if there is a sidewalk in front of your house and a small area of grass between the sidewalk and street that area is the owners responsibility to maintain but it is actually the cities property.

The way I understand it, the land that the sidewalk is on and the grass area that extends to the curb are actually counted as part of the homeowner's property, but the city or county has a easement on his (or anyone's) property for the sidewalk right of way. I think in my neighborhood, it's ten feet from the curb onto my property that can be used. We have a sidewalk about two feet in. We do maintain the land (and sidewalk) as it belongs to us.
