Nassau Food Tasting and Cultural Walking Tour

This isn't an excursion offered on our DCL website, but came across this today and it sounds like something our family might enjoy. Has anyone tried it before? Also, how do you get to the tour if you have?

We did one last year that we booked through Tripadvisor. The company is called Tru Bahamian Food Tours. It was a great experience - got a chance to get away from the tourist traps by the port and see some great architecture, such as churches, governement buildings, etc. Also had several food stops that added up to more than enough for a full meal. Our guide was very professional, and we never felt unsafe at any point during the tour.

The tour ended at a rum cake shop, but that was really the only stop with shopping that I recall. Much more of an emphasis on architectural sites and restaurants.

Yes, this is the one I am viewing. It gets great reviews on TripAdvisor. Do you remember how you got to them? Since it’s not an excursion by Disney I was a little Leary if the logistics of getting to them and back on the boat in time. This looks like exactly what we are looking for.

We went on this tour in February. It’s an easy walk from the boat to the location where you meet up. There was plenty of time to get there and back to the ship (the tour is around 3 hours, you end right next to the area right before the ships). We were given time to shop at Greycliff Chocolates and then you end at the rum cake shop. We really enjoyed the tour and the information we learned. You definitely get enough food throughout the tour to make a meal.

We really enjoyed the Tru Bahamian Food Tour; took it several years ago. We had a great guide and lots of great food. Good chance to see a bit of Nassau off the beaten path and support the local tourist economy.

It's a shame so many people stay on the ship...

I wouldn't take little kids. There is a fair amount of walking and some of the food may not be tho their taste.

The walking I'll give you but I really dislike it when parents discourage their children from trying new things by saying, "oh you wouldn't like that!" I heard it on my last trip. A boy of about six wanted to try the freshly made tacos when we got of the boat at Los Caletas. His mom said, "oh I don't think you'd like it." Well why don't you just let him try and see? It absolutely doesn't hurt anything. My children have always had to try everything at least once even if it was octopus or beef tongue. It's amazing what they will eat. My youngest adores sushi but she can't stand the texture of cooked fish. Still she tried escargot on the last cruise because well she hadn't done it yet. After all you can always bring snacks for them if they get hungry and don't like what is being offered and even if they don't eat the food they'll still be getting a look at a different culture.

I do recommend it, it's a fun way to do Nassau especially if you've done the Atlantis thing before.

Now those are REAL conch fritters. Also that conch ceviche looks so good. I'm absolutely putting all this on my list for our Nassau stop. Thanks so much for your wonderful trip report. The rum cakes are now sold at Costco here in the states but I haven't been able to find the rum in my state.

Great trip report. We will definitely look into this tour for our trip. You posted in late May, we are going in early Sept. How hot and humid was it?
I've also noticed a tour for just the chocolate factory. It that more for children? Need something to do with a 7, 5, and 4 yo.

Your trip report is fantastic! I think we'd really enjoy this tour. My only concern right now is my daughter has some tree nut allergies, and if that could be worked around, we may just do this. My kids are adventurous eaters, so not worried about that part. They love trying food from other cultures/countries.
