Nashville Anniversary Getaway..need help!

Just offering confirmation that the rooms in Opryland are just that - a plain room. We were SO disappointed in our room, especially with the surroundings. Find a better/cheaper hotel and just visit Opryland & Opry Mills.

I am with Lynn on the Cheesecake Factory. It isn't worth the hassle of going to Green Hills for their food. There are so many other places you go can go to! :thumbsup2

I'm also a Bama gal (Tuscaloosa) and since we are huge Nashville Predators fans, we go to Nashville a lot. We go on the cheap, though and stay at the Ramada Inn in Franklin. It's about 15 minutes from Nashville and we've gotten it from 49-69 a night. I love to go to Opry Mills and eat at Rainforest Cafe and the Aquarium. We've visited the Hermitage and the Grand Old Opry as well. There are lots of tours. I LOVE Nashville and the surrounding areas. My DH says we're going to retire to a cabin in Franklin!

Lady...West End area is more of a college/medical center cention of town. You will have some restaurants and bars, but not the "honky tonk" type bars. (I am not a bar person, so if I am wrong about this, I know someone will correct me). You are near Centenial Park (which is kind of nice to walk around and there is the replica of the Parthenon there. If you want "honky tonk" country type places without driving, you might want to consider downtown. There is a Courtyard Marriott down there too.

March madness in case it has not been answered....college basketball playoffs. It sounds like the Gaylord Entertainment Center (the GEC)is hosting some of it.

How funny fiveforall. I live just a few minutes from "downtown" Franklin!! Love, Love, Love it here.

Can anyone tell me the difference in rooms at the Radisson Opryland. This is what I've found.....

Interior Room $89.00
Sleep # Bed Room $129.00
Bed & Breakfast Package (this has the sleep # bed also it says) $129.00

Of course between the last 2 they are same price so would go with the breakfast.

Is it worth the $40 extra?

I think I'm going to book at the Renaissance for one night (that's all they have) and then looking at maybe the second night at the Radisson Opryland.

Anyone stayed there?

The Renessance is a nice hotel...close to the Ryman Auditorium (the original Grand Ole Opry home), and a block off of lower Broad where a lot of honky tonks are (like Tootsies). I have never stayed there, but have been to a few confrences there(plus my son attended daycare across the street from it!) It seems to be a nice hotel.

At the Radisson (I literally live around the corner from it) I can only imagine that when they say interior room, they mean rooms that the door opens to an interior corridor (like the deluxe hotels at Disney). Some of their rooms open to the outside...don't know if that makes a difference to you.

I think your decision to stay one night downtown and one night in the Opryland area is a good one. It will give you the best of both worlds. You can go to the stuff in downtown and walk everywhere, but also see the stuff in the Opryland area.

Hope this helps!

Let me know if you have any other questions...us Nashvillians will try to answer them.

I agree with Cajunfan. I don't think you can go wrong w/ Renaissance.

Thank you, I assumed that's what it was. I guess I wasn't aware they were held in Nashville. Do you know when this is?

I vote for Melting Pot for dinner! It's truly a unique experience and if you're celebrating something they definitely work hard to make it a magical, special night. If you go there plan for 2-3 hours for dinner. And they do take reservations.

One possibility for lodging is the Fairfield Nashville timeshare condos that are across the street from the Opryland. I stayed there in April 2005, using my friend's father's timeshare points. It's beautiful! They do allow you to 'rent' room like a hotel. I just checked a Friday night in March to see what it was and they're offering $123 rack rate, $111 AAA rate and $92 military rate if you qualify. (And whether you stay there or not, if you don't mind sitting through a 1.5 hour sales pitch you can probably get some free dinner and tickets to Grand Ole Opry! We did! LOL Just stop in to the resort.)

Here's the 'menu' for the spa at Opryland...

I think it's very overpriced and that you'd do alot better at a different spa. Here's a link to the 'Best of 2006' list for spas in Nashville...

I loved Nashville...hope you have a great time!!
