NASCAR Fan & Disney Cruise HELP!

Thank you all for your great ideas!

996Turbos - I love the idea of the Nascar Track Pass and Unlimited Internet Package! My husband and son thought that was a fantastic idea. Hooray, some positive feedback has really lightened the somber mood around my house. :sunny:

My family has since decided that if we pay $89 for unlimited Internet, we plan on using it - Unlimited, to watch the entire race(s). It would only be more perfect, if we could order room service and just have ourselves a real party while watching the race. Of course all of these new big plans are only providing the computers are compatible with the Nascar Program. :scratchin

It is really hard to understand my dilema unless you are a true Nascar Fan. We have speed running through our veins. People have many addictions, ours is family wide and Fantastic! I'm really glad to see that there are several Nascar fans on the Disney Board! Welcome...

Also, NCDISNEYMOM, its nice to meet you! Its great to know that I have such cool neighbors.

Thanks again and Merry Christmas Everyone!!!

I'm glad you feel you worked it out.

Now I think you should be thinking about the other people on the ship when a whole bunch of you are crowded around one tight computer space for a few hours while others are waiting on line to use the computers.

I echo what Doctor P said. I think you'd be rude and inconsiderate to do what you're thinking of doing. The fact that you're a diehard NASCAR fan has nothing to do with it. I like NASCAR too, and I cruise during the Daytona 500. I'll live if I don't see it, but I certainly wouldn't be hogging up desired computer time, with people crowded around me, while others are waiting.

But that's just me.

While I agree that common sense and courtesy should be displayed lets not forget unlimited use means just that. While on my last cruise someone spent the entire day in a hammock on Castaway Cay. Sure wish I could have used it but thats the breaks. I walked by several time and stared at him but he would not budge.

All kidding aside, I do recommend that people be considerate of fellow cruise mates. Also you may find that your family will be joined by many others who share your desire to watch the race. Welcome them in. Have a party! What better place for a party to break out than on a Disney Cruise Ship. If handled fairly and with proper courtesy you could be making some great memories for your family as well as others that join you. Let the cast members in the sports pub know about your plans so any who inqire about the race can be directed to you if you choose. Also inform the castmember at the Cove or the Internet cafe that you are willing to be reasonable and share if others ask about the useage. There may also be posted times for each single use of the computer. If so be a good sport and follow shipboard recommendations. In truth I spent several hours in the Cove at a time and observed many unused computer stations. So in closing have fun and "be" fun to those around you.

ps: I understand your need for speed. A 996 turbo is a Porsche. I have worked on and driven various Porsches for better than 15 years now. Go fast is what I do.

I don't know much about "watching" an event on the internet, but I do recall that the download speed on the on-board internet was not up to par with my DSL line here at home or my office's T1 line. You might check other threads to get reviews of the performance of the internet.

Seems like you are sincere about your passion for NASCAR. So I agree you made a major league boo-boo in this scheduling overlap. I plan on blowing off the NFL conference championship games on the first day of my upcoming Wonder cruise, and I'll just have to miss baseball opening day during the Magic cruise after that--and this will be my 13th year as a Braves season ticket holder, but I was locked into DS' school vacation week. But each of us decides the extent of our obsessions and religious devotion, so no one can preach to you. You'll work it out, one way or another.

Some day when your children are getting married, have them set the dates with the Nextel Cup schedule in hand. That way you wont have to struggle to listen to the wedding ceremony via cellphone over the roar of the crowd and of the engines while you watch from the infield....

Tina- I can feel your pain! You just made me realize that I will miss the Charlotte Race in May of '06... but with a hubby that works for ISC, we have to take our vacation when we can get it (like when the race is at non-ISC tracks)... its great to see NASCAR make its way to the DIS boards! (Did you see the Disney cars at the Daytona 500 last year???)

Just noticing all of these NASCAR fans on this thread. Did you all know that on the Community board each week during race season there is a thread dedicated to guessing the order of the top 5? Check out ToriLammy's name and join us!

PS, I can understand your need to hear the race. I hope it all works out for you and happy cruising!

Another NASCAR family of fans here, too. We've been to Fontana since it opened and Sears Point (Infinion) several times for the road races. Just wanted to wish you luck in being able to catch the race. Be sure to have friends tape it while you are gone just in case.

Ginny mentioned earlier that XM is the way to go since you cannot pick up a race on the ship .... got the new XM Myfi for Christmas and am planning on bringing that along to be able to listen race next year while out at sea, I'll also be bringing the XM boombox for anyone else who might want to listen while sitting out on the secret veranda on deck 7 .... Andy

And what if the other folks on the secret verandah don't want to listen?

As to the OP, there's a race (or races, if you include the Busch race) most every weekend, it's hard to plan a vacation around one. Your family can suck it up this one time.

Dancing Bear,

We actually had the XM turned down low (where we could hear it, but it wasn't so loud as to disturb others)...and other folks asked if they could pull up chairs to listen. Hopefully we looked friendly enough that if we had disturbed someone, they would have mentioned it.

Ginny :)

So when's the DIS'er NASCAR cruise????? I vote for 5/27/06, as I'm already booked... we can all miss the '06 Charlotte race together!!!! :jumping1:

Then they can leave.

I hope you are kidding, xABearx.

Hi Doctor P,

Yep...he was kidding. :earboy2:

Truly, the radio isn't very loud...unless others ask us to turn it up.

Ginny

Well then, maybe I'm not kidding!

You never know with these Tony Stewart fans!

In our racing pool, he's better known as "Martha"...

I don't get it? Martha?

In our circle, he's just called a darn good racer, who can drive anything with wheels. :)

We've met him twice and both times he was very nice!! The first time we met him (at a Home Depot meet 'n greet), I had a "Flat Stanley" with me. We'd been told that Tony wasn't posing with folks, but that you could take a picture while he autographed. Now I was watching and he would stop for a second and smile...or if it was a child, he'd stop and chat for a second, but that was all. When we got up to Tony, I asked if I could "prop" Flat Stanley up and take a quick picture. He stop signing, looked up and said, "Oh I know all about Flat Stanley, hand him here and I'll hold him" --- then he posed for two pictures. Then Tony turned to JJ Yeley and handed him Flat Stanley...and JJ stopped to pose too! Very sweet of both of them. :)

I'm so happy to hear a great story about Tony Stewart. My family is die hard Earnhardt Fans - Senior and now Junior. I am a big Martin Truex Jr., fan and like Kasey Kahne and Tony stewart as well. We own a race bus with a friend of ours and he is a Matt Kenseth fan, so our bus is decorated with Yellow and Black 17's and Red and Black 8's... Our infield neighbors are Jeff Gordon Fans and our other neighbors are mixed Dale Jr., Jeff Burton, Michael Waltrip and Elliott Sadler. The fact that so many different people can come together and love drivers and hate drivers and still have a great time is just fantastic - I love NASCAR!

We should have a NASCAR Fan cruise... Who do we contact to arrange such a thing???? :boat:

I like the NASCAR Fan cruise idea .... I like Jr and Truex Jr as well and think he'll will do great once he hits the Cup Series ... Ginny is a big Sadler fan and loves that M&M car. You're right, NASCAR is about the only sport where you can have a great time with others even if they don't root for the same driver you do .... Andy
