Naming a child Constance?

I have a four letter first name and there are some people who still try to shorten it. However, in general I think people try to respect the name you ask them to call you.

I think Constance is fine. Not my personal choice, but I see nothing wrong with it. I vote "Tancy" for a nickname if needed.

I love the name Margaret! I wouldn't have given my daughter a name I didn't love. It was my grandmother's name and I think it is very pretty but there definitely are a lot of nicknames for Margaret. Margie isn't too bad but it seems like a woman's name. I don't mind Maggie, but our neighbor's had a dog named Maggie at the time our daughter was born so it was kind of out of the question. Some nicknames just don't seem right for little kids though. Peggy and Marge were out. Meg is perfect - the only problem we have is that everyone just assumes that Meg is short for Megan or Meghan. No matter what you name your child, people will make assumptions about it. You just roll with it.

I always felt younger when people called me Margie than Marge (I know ancient at 38:rotfl: ) but just dont call me Peg or Peggy (ugh) My MIL and I have tha same exact name Margaret Mary but I go by Margie and she goes by Peg, hence the reason, please dont call me Peg.

Although I did use that as my alias in college, my friends called me Peg when we would go out to bars to tease me, well if a guy asked for my phone number and he was a dork or a loser then I would tell him my name was Peg and then when he called we would tell him there was no on there by that name. I know immature but unfortunately there were many Peg numbers given out until I met DH!!!!

Back to the OP, Constance is pretty but she will probably have to correct people all her life. I am finding that out with DS9's name but he is starting to like both Matthew and Matt so if he is ok then so am I.
