names you HATE

I hate Thurston, Billoughby, and Cuthbert.

Well now have 3 to add to my list that I didn't even know were names! :teeth:

My dad used to always tease us and tell us he wanted to name us
"Cowpernia" but my mom wouldn't let him. Is that a real name? :confused3

I'd like to list names I really LIKE! I think one of the OP's name "Emma" is really pretty!

I like Emma too Goofy, my own name is Emily :) I like the name Tyler and Alex for a boy, and Jessie (for a boy, too) and Rachel for a girl.

I forgot to list the #1 names on my gag-list:

1. Madison. Overdone (and was a joke to begin with).

2. Hunter. Sorry, this is a dog's name whether you believe it or not.

'Kay I feel better now.

Oh, also edited to add I've also heard Ryan and Kyle for girls. :crazy2:

:lmao: Yeah, I'm a bit offended because not only is my child named Hunter but she is a girl! But everyone is entitled to their opinions and you certainly are yours.
I didn't know any boys named Hunter when I chose the name and certainly not aware it was a DOG'S name, but I loved it and still love it. And so does she (even at 12). I didn't want a girly, *fluffy* name (I won't give examples), I wanted a strong sounding name. My sister went to college with a girl named Susan Hunter_____ & she went by "Hunter". I thought it was a very nice girl's name--probably because I thought she was a really nice girl. She later legally changed her name to Hunter.

You've heard of karma? Well, I deserved your remark because I dated a guy in HS named Rex and I told him that was a nice name...for a dog. :guilty: Karma... :rotfl2:

Most of the time I associate names with people that I know more than just the *names*. I am not sure how school teachers EVER name their children!!!

I may be wrong, but I don't think this person meant it as an insult. Just pointing out a fact that many dogs are named Hunter these days. I have seen several. In fact, when I took my dog to dog obedience, there were 3 dogs named Hunter in the class of about 10.

Sorry, the way it was stated was more as most people took it--an insult.

My DH thinks he's paying you a big compliment if he names his dog after you. :rotfl: So, that's the way I'll sorta look at it. :goodvibes

My little dog is name Nicole. We call her Nicki. Any Nicoles here?? ;) :thumbsup2

I've met a few dogs named Bridget....does that mean I have a dogs name or do those poor dogs have a people name?

I don't hate any names. I dislike many of them, including my own and the stripper names DH likes for girl names, but I don't hate them.

OMG, your's too? Every name DH has come up with for a girl has been a stripper name. Thank God Russ was a boy.

My SMIL started yammering about what an awful name Russell is when we told her that was his name. My father was there but I don't think he heard her - our Russ is #4, named after my father, grandfather and great-grandfather.

I love the name Bridget (for a human) LOL! :goodvibes

Am I the only one who thinks most of the trendy names are very pretty? :confused3 I love most of the names listed. I also really like traditional names, but chose not to name my son something traditional because our last name is so "generic".

I do sometimes wonder what the heck people are thinking when they name a child something like Apple or His Royal Majesty, but I can't think of any I really hate.

Well I love Hunter as a girl's name... of course I have 2 daughters named Keaton and Parker! My BIL calls the baby Parker Posey though... :teeth:

Names like Taylor, Morgan and Jordan used to be used more for boys, but I think of them more as girl's names now.

It's fine for the girls, IMO, it just seems like such a pity for the boys.
i really didn't like the name jordan at all when i was pregnant with my daughter, but i knew a woman named jordana who was sooo lovely and smart and sweet. i wanted my dd to be just like her. AND i didn't want my daughter to grow up and marry a guy with the same name (think paris and paris)

Are you sure he didn't say Calpernia? That's an old name. In fact, it's the name of the maid/nanny in my favorite book To Kill A Mockingbird.

Oh well since a few people have taken offence to my name comments, I guess I'll dive back in here.

First of all, it wasn't an insult, it was an opinion. If you are insulted by my opinion, that is kind of silly since it is not personal.

Second, since this is a thread about names you hate, I thought I would explain a little blurb of why I hated them, instead of just list them.

Also, understand that in "real life" I would be the first person to smile and say what wonderful names they are. Yes, I'm hypocritical but the last thing I would want to do is hurt someone's feelings. I guess I just figured that anyone who didn't have a thick skin wouldn't click on this thread in the first place. :confused3

Like I said in my first post on this thread, this isn't about people it is about names. I don't see why anyone would be offended about my opinion of a name. I have no negative opinion of anyone who likes, has, or gives these names. LOL.

And for the record, I like classic, traditional names. Once I told a co-worker the name I chose for my first son and she said it sounded generic, boring, overused and weak. Was I offended? Um, no. Did I name my son that name still? You betcha.

So it is just a name. Unless you personally invented the names Madison or Hunter, I don't see why you should be offended that I don't like them. It is just a simple matter of taste.

I'm sorry if anyone's feelings were hurt.

Can't get any worse than Clarinda.....yep. That is the horrible name my parents stuck me with. Needless to say I went by my middle name.... a boring plain "Lynn". Imagine growing up in the 70's with that. Now I'm not going to say what name we stuck my poor dd with. I am sure many here would hate it.

I don't hate any names, but there are a few I dislike. The biggest one is Tristan. It screams of "I desperately wanted a girl, had a boy so I'm sticking him with this 2-in-1 name."

I also hate trendy "unique" names. I can't stand the trend of slapping last names on as first names and I hate deliberately misspelled names. And if you need to always pronounce it for everyone, it's not a good choice for a first name.

What she said.

There is a difference between disliking a naming style and hating a person. I don't hate people with those kinds of names (although I sometimes wonder about their parents :sad2: ).

I haven't read the entire thread, but I always think about what the kid will do when he/she is 25 or 30 and trying to get a job...and has one of those trendy, imaginative names.....

:sunny: popcorn:: I don't dislike but I would never name my daughter Brittanie or any spelling of it. My daughter has so many Brittany's in her grade that some of them are call only by their last name. I think this is rude. It seems that only the popular Brits get to use their given name.
