I just wanted to say thanks and let you know that your steps saved me a bunch of money! I put a bid lower than 60% just to see if it would be accepted and it was. I was able to get a Full Size car, Oct 2 thru Oct 9 for $120.64 from Alamo.

Wow! that's great. I currently have a full size booked with Alamo for $212 including taxes for Oct. 13-19. Maybe I'll try this now.

My bid was $9/day. The taxes & fees were almost as much as the car!

Now, how does Alamo work when I go to pick up the car? Do they assign a car for me at the counter or do I get to pick one?

Didn't work for me. I compared your dates with mine and mine are about $20 per day more than yours. I guess going Columbus Day week is making the rates higher. I'll wait and try again when it gets closer, and maybe I'll get lucky.

Just try everyday. DH kept lowballing the price, but after a week or two of trying, they finally took it.

We book using Priceline name your own price. We got a midsize car for our trip Nov 30-Dec 12 for $11 per day.(we are happy with the price) and we got Hertz as our company. With Tax it was $234.34 (they say we saved $679.34 off of what the car woudl go for on the Hertz site)

Good luck everyone if you give this a try!!! It is our 1st time using the name your own price. Only down side it you have to pay upfront and lock in.

If I need to add an additional driver can I do that when I get to the counter or do I do that when bidding on priceline? I need either an suv or minivan. I have a ressie for minivan thru national for Oct 1-10 and with additional driver it's $425 but I would like to get it lower if I could. Is the standard additional driver fee $10 a day?

I've used Priceline four times at MCO and each time I got Alamo in the terminal.
