I read on another thread that name badges with your name engraved on them have been discontinued in the parks. Is this true?

That's what I found out in persoan at WDW when I was there in Jan... but DL still does them.

Those were discontinued because they looked too much like a real Cast Member badge. Kids were being told (like my granddaughter) to look for someone with a Cast Member badge if they got lost. Even with a different style or color, a kid who is lost and panicked isn't going to remember what to look for. They will look for the badge, any badge.

There is a machine, however, in the MK Firehouse, and one at OUAT at DTD that will engrave luggage-type tags in various shapes, and with various characters on one side... they aren't the same as the old name badges, but they're still a neat souvenir. I think there's one inside DQ too. You can get up to 4 lines of text, if I remember right. It's a kiosk machine, and I think it was like $10 to do. I got one as an alternative to the name badge when I was there in Jan. Not what I really wanted, but it's still nice.
