North Korea has just launched at least two medium range non-nuclear scud missles. Apparently aimed in the direction of Japan, they fell harmlessly into the Sea of Japan. Kinda scary....

CNN is reporting that the third, the "big" one (I forget the name), failed mid flight.

See...if ya'all hadn't wasted all your time with this Iraq stuff...now we got this knucklehead lobbing missles at us!!

One certainly wonders what they are up to. Glad the third one was a dud.

They're trying to get attention. They are broke. They want respect, and they're probably looking for some payola. Just like the bullies in school. Who, by the way, always ended up in detention with the cool kids laughing and pointing at them.

They speculate it's just posturing or wanting attention. You beat me by a minute Dawn with your own thread ;) . If you want me to delete mine, I will.

Scud missles? Don't we launch them in Iraq all the time?

No, don't delete it. I just put it up there for informational purposes. It doesn't matter to me where it gets discussed. That was nice of you to say that however.

Ahh, I just answered my own question. :teeth:

Scud is the popularized term for a series of tactical ballistic missiles developed by the Soviet Union during the Cold War and exported widely to other countries. The term comes from the NATO reporting name SS-1 Scud which was attached to the missile by Western intelligence agencies. The Russian names for the missile are the R-11 (the first version) and R-300 Elbrus (later developments). The name Scud has been used by media and other entities to refer to not only these missiles but to the wide variety of missiles developed in other countries based on the Soviet design. Occasionally in the United States, Scud is applied to any country's ballistic missiles not of western origin.

So we don't fire scud missiles, we just fire missiles.
