Well, we are back and I want to go home to the Poly already! We stayed 7 nights, July 7-July 14. Our flight out of MCO wasn’t until 8:25 pm, so we used the dining plan for 8 full days.

Here is some background: We were three adults (DH, DW and DD11) and one child (DD7) on the dining plan. We had 28 TS, CS, and snack credits. For 7 nights, it cost us $805 to purchase the plan. We stayed in the Polynesian Hawaii building, so this food report also includes information about the concierge lounge.

Day 1

Bkfast- airport
Lunch- Councourse Steakhouse.
DH- Steakhouse Salad(app) and Yellow fin tuna and snickers cheesecake(yum!)
DW- Pan seared Scallops(app) and Filet Mignon and artist palette cookie(gave to DD7)
DD11- French Onion soup(app) and Steakhouse Burger and artist's palette cookie
DD7- Kids’ chicken fingers

The food was fantastic! DD11’s burger was the best I have ever tried in my life. All of the appetizers were terrific as well. DH raved over his tuna, and my filet was cooked perfectly and had a side of lobster risotto that was so good I cannot describe it!

Our waitress Lori was amazing. I made sure to let the manager know how great she was.

Lori let us know that drinks with glowing ice cubes were included in the plan, so I ordered one for myself and gave it to DD7 since we paid for her out of pocket, and didn’t want to pay $4.95 for her to get one.

Used 3 TS credits = 111.15
OOP: $6.67 for DD7’s lunch and $3 extra tip for Lori

Dinner- Concierge Lounge at the Poly. Barbequed ribs were amazing!

4 Snack credits used= 10.00 3 Itzakadoozles and 1 Mickey bar

Day 2

Bkfast- Concierge Lounge

Lunch- Cosmic Ray’s Great value for the dining plan. Ordered 1 chicken tenders meal, and 2 chicken/rib combo platters served with wonderful mashed potatoes. 3 sodas, 2 brownies, and I carrot cake. DW and DD7 shared.

Used 3 CS credits= 50.71

Dinner
- Chef Mickey Glow cube drinks were included, but the food was yuck. We have eaten here many times before, and I don’t recall disliking the food. The character interaction was good, but the characters really liked the toddlers and babies and were not too into my DD7 and DD11. I guess we are past the character meal age!

****For people wondering about the age change and buffets: We made this reservation back in April when my oldest was still considered a child. When we got to the hostess stand, she made sure to tell me that the age of a child was different now and that my oldest would be charged as an adult even though we made the reservation before the change. It didn’t hurt us, since we paid for her as an adult on the dining plan, but it will affect people who pay out of pocket. ****

Used 4 TS credits= 124.10

2 Snack credits used= 4.00 2 waters

Day 3

Bkfast-Concierge lounge

Lunch- Pizzafari 3 pizzas, 1 chicken Caesar salad, 4 sodas, 3 frozen minute maid lemonades 9dessert), 1 dessert pizza
Used 4 CS credits= 44.71

Dinner- DH and DW had BBQ pork sandwiches (out of this world delicious) at the concierge lounge

Captain Cooks at the Poly for the kids 2 cheeseburger meals , 2 powerades, and 2 mickey crispie treats

Used 2 CS credits= 23.61

3 Snack credits used= 7.52 2 popcorns and 1 water at AKL

Day 4

Bkfast- 1900 Park Fare Great breakfast. Nice character interaction. Waitress suggested that we order a specialty drink since they are included in the dining plan. We had milkshakes with breakfast! My kids thought I had lost my mind letting them eat ice cream at breakfast!

Used 4 TS credits= 97.12

Lunch- Lottawatta Lodge at Blizzard Beach We shared a fish and chips platter and a burger platter, 2 bottles of water, and for dessert, 1 frozen minute maid, and one soft serve ice cream

Used 2 CS credits= 22.97

Dinner- Earl of Sandwich We paid OOP after finding out it included only the sandwich, a fountain drink and a cookie. It seemed silly to waste the credits on such a cheap meal. We loved the sandwiches and would definitely go back again. DH- Beef and Bleu DW and DD7 shared Cannonballs (meatball sand) DD11- Kids grilled cheese, said it was the best she has ever had. I tasted it and agreed! 1 bag of chips, 2 sodas.

OOP: 16.80

1 Snack credit used = 2.12 1 soda

Day 5

Bkfast- Concierge lounge

Lunch- Biergarten DH’s favorite place every trip. The girls and I humor him, but, honestly, we think it is less than tasty and eat barely anything. DH makes up for it though! Paid for DD7 out of pocket to save a credit for later in the week.

Used 3 TS credits=63.61
OOP: 30.62 for DD7’s lunch, 1 giant beer, and 1 normal size beer

Dinner-Pecos Bill WOW! That fixin’s bar has changed a lot since I’ve last eaten there! Sautéed mushrooms and onions! This was a great counter service meal. We treated the grandparents who live nearby and visited for two days.
4 cheeseburger and fries platters and 2 Bacon double cheeseburger and fries, 6 huge sodas, 6 slices of chocolate cream pie. Way too much pie so we gave four slices to the family sitting next to us. I believe there were actual tears of joy in the teenage boys’ eyes.

Used 6 CS credits=67.44

13 snack credits used= 29.00 2 popcorn, 2 itzakadoozles, 4 waters, 3 sodas, 2 bags of chips

Wow! Day 5 looks like a food-fest when it is down on paper! The huge amount of snacks is because we ate (or stared at) lunch early, and ate dinner late.

Day 6

Bkfast-Ohana An old favorite. Wonderful as always.

Used 4 TS credits= 77.71

Lunch-Concierge Lounge

Dinner- Le Cellier for DH and DW while the girls went to La Nouba with the grandparents.
Best meal of the trip! SOOOOOOOOO good!!!!! DW- cheese soup /surf and turf/smores
DH- scallops appetizer/surf and turf/crème brule

Used 2 TS credits=126.76
OOP: $5.00 extra tip (service was fantastic)

Snacks- none

Day 7

Bkfast-concierge lounge

Lunch-Pizza Planet Treated the grandparents again. 6 pizza meal combos including salad, 6 waters, 6 mickey crispy treats (brought them home and I am munching happily/sadly on one right now!)

Used 6 CS credits= 79.24

Dinner- Spirit of Aloha Food was gross and show was just so-so. Great dancers, but the storyline was so odd. I knew all this going into it, but the girls had never seen it and wanted to experience it.

Used 8 TS credits = 151.27

******* When I made this reservation, both girls were considered children. I figured that DD11 would now be charged as an adult, but was not.*****

5 snack credits used= 12.00 1 itzakadoozle, 2 orange juice bars, 1 mickey ice cream sandwich and 1 water

Day 8

Bkfast-Concierge lounge

Lunch- Captain Cook’s 2 chicken tender baskets and 3 burger baskets with waters and mickey crispy bars

5 CS used= 60.91

Dinner- Concierge lounge

Overview:

TS= $751.72
CS= $349.59
snacks= $65.14

total= $ 1,166.45
savings= $361.45

In general, we thought the meal plan was great because it was wonderful to get whatever we wanted and rarely pull cash out of the wallet. It felt like an all-inclusive without the alcohol. However, it was waaaaaaaaaaayyyyy too much food. We would never do it in combination with a concierge stay again. By itself, it would be great because we would use some CS credits for breakfast.

There were very few difficulties in using the plan. Only twice did the scanner malfunction at snack carts. So, we just went to another cart to get what we needed.

All of the servers were fabulous and knowledgeable about the plan and we were not treated any differently than if we were paying cash.

If you have any questions, I'll be glad to answer!

Wow, you reallly took a lot time to detail that report. And it was great! I"m glad to hear Concorse was a success, and with glow cubes! I was too cheap to buy these on our last trip, but this time we are on the plan and will be living like kings!

Just one question.....we are thinking of going concierge, how did you eat lunch in concierge? I'm not sure I understand, I thought they just did a continental bfast and snacks. Thanks! :flower:

At the poly concierge there was always fruit and terrific mixed nuts available every day. In addition, there were other snacks on a rotating basis like chips and salsa, pretzels, popcorn. So when I say lunch, I really mean a hodge podge of filling and tasty food! Not the same as a sandwich, but honestly we were just too full to eat a meal sometimes!

Excellent review, nice detail! Thanks!

I "humor" my DH going to Beirgarten too. He loves the place & I think it's o.k. but it is a must do for him every trip so we have to do it.

By the way, what is an itskadoodle?

Great review....our server at 1900 Park Fare said coffee and juices or sodas only. Still a great meal....we enjoyed watching all the happy kids.

OK..I was able to make all my ressie for my TS, my quiestion is the counter service. Will they tell you what you can and what you can get with but with extra $$$ ?

<<By the way, what is an itskadoodle?>>

An Itsakadoodle is like a twisted sherbet popsicle. Usually they have two (or three?) kinds of sherbet and are very yummy. Looks for them in your grocer's freezer. :teeth:

Good reviews, not getting dining plan ~ just me & DH...too much food to feel like you have to order/eat!!!! Was really nice of you to share your pie w/ the other family :goodvibes :flower:

So, are you allowed to use the dining plan on the day you checkout?

The reason I ask is, I thought it only covered the number of days of your stay at the hotel? Or is that just for the amount of credits you are allowed?

You are allowed to use the credits until 11:59 pm of your checkout day.

Every CM we encountered was knowledgeable about the plan. I guess they have had enough practice now. Anyway, they were able to tell you exactly what you could order. If I wasn't sure, I just asked.

Both waitresses at Concourse Steakhouse and 1900 PF showed us specialty drinks on the menu and said, "They were just added to the plan." I guess they point it out so that their tip will be higher.

Great report, I'm glad to hear you liked Cosmic Rays, we're planning to share meals there - we're going in sep, on the dining plan. Also we have ar's for Le Cellier. there are 6 of us (me, dh, db, dd12, dd10, dd10). I'm figuring on using 4 ts and let the younger 2 order an appetizer (maybe the cheese soup) and share the rest of our meals. What do you think about portions there? When we go out to eat my younger two often don't even eat a full kid's meal, too excited, so I'm hoping this plan will work.

The portions were nice, but not huge. I think that added to the taste of the meal though. It really was fine dining. I think the kids would be great with the soup and the pretzel rolls they serve! It looked to me like most of the kids around us were just filling up on those delicious rolls!

Have a great trip!

Enjoyed reading your report ~ Thanx for posting.

Thanks so much for your kind responses. It makes me feel a little better becuase my husband thought I was completely insane for keeping track of what we ate! :rotfl2:
