Look to go away in July and wanted to do a beach vacation that we can drive to from NJ . I don't feel like flying this time.

Can any one recommend an nice location and nice hotel? Looking for Nice hotel and want to spend 1500-1800 for the week and would like a kitchen. We have the flexibility to spend more but, would like to try to keep it in that range.

Any suggestions?

Last year, we went to Tybee Island, Georgia. It is just outside of Savannah and it was fantastic! It isn't super commercail like Myrtle Beach, Hilton Head, etc. We rented a 3 BR condo that was right on the river/ocean for $1700 for 7 nights. It was fantastic. We found it on VRBO.

Besides having a great beach, we loved Tybee for its laid back feel and proximity to Savannah. We were able to day trips into Savannah to enjoy the city but yet escpe to the beach whenever we wanted. I would highly recommend it! We loved it so much that we will be going back either next year or the following year.

Hilton Head! Beautiful beaches and bike paths all over. We rent through homeaway or vrbo.com. A couple places we have stayed are

Palmetto Dunes Resort
Hilton Head Beach and Tenmis Resort
Hilton Head Resort....best value place....two or three bedroom co dos for around $800 a week.

Hilton Head has So much to do, but their building codes don't allow anything over three stories so it is very pretty. Everything is hidden among the trees. Very lush landscaping.

Probably same time to get there than Myrtle Beach. It is further south, but closer to Route 95 timewise.

I couldnt agree more. We used to go to Myrtle Beach every year. We found Hilton Head about 11 years ago and havent been back to the terribly crowded and jam packed full of teens at MB since! HHI is so family friendly and quiet...such a difference from MB.

We have stayed at Hilton Head Beach and Tennis Club Resort (in Admirals Row building) and our past couple of trips we have stayed at the Moorings in Palmetto Dunes. We always use www.vrbo.com to book our place. The difference at HHI is that not all the places to stay are directly on the beach. Many are off and you have to walk or drive. The whole island is only 12 miles long. Here is a link to the place we are staying in August again.

The owners are great to work with and live locally on the island.

Kiawah Island, just of the coast of Charleston SC. Love the food in Charleston and the area has great beach and awesome golf courses.

Tybee was a favorite of ours...we tried Holden Beach last year and loved it! It is a quiet family beach about 45 minutes north of Myrtle Beach. We drove to Myrtle a couple of the rainy days and did all the touristy stuff but on the sunny days, we laid on an almost deserted beach! Fantastic!

We go to Emerald Isle NC every summer. It is a nice area without too much craziness. You can find houses to rent for $1200 and up for a week.

We've been going to Holden Beach, NC for 10 years. There are many rentals right on the beach. It's a quiet, family beach and we love it there. It's close enough to Myrtle for a day trip.

We like North Myrtle Beach. It is quieter and less commercial than Myrtle Beach. We like the Avista Resort.

I am going to agree with those that say Palmetto Dunes in Hilton Head. It is such a nice place! We aren't going this year and really want to go!

I grew up at Holden Beach and now live down the road closer to Ocean Isle Beach. Actually all of our Brunswick County beaches are great, HB, OIB and Sunset Beach are my favorites. This is a great family vacation area, not commercialized like Myrtle, but close enough for a day trip there for shopping/water park/nascar park, etc. If you decide on this area, PM me and I can point you to some good restaurants.

That being said, I also love Hilton Head. It's about a 4 hour drive south from here.
