mypoints question on email address, etc...

Happy Valentines Day, All!!!

I used to buy everything I could online through Mypoints to earn points to use GC's etc at Disney World.

Last year I was tricked by a phish email that looked like ebay and had my info stolen for a short time. Luckily I was able to stop it before they got my Paypal info.

Anyway, I changed my ISP recently as I was getting bombarded with spam.

I want to use MyPoints to earn points but am nervous giving any personal info online.

Can you use an email address from yahoo or hotmail there? And do you give your real date of birth when it is requested online?

Any suggestions to be able to participate but still protect myself as much as I can would be appreciated!

I use a yahoo account for MyPoints with no problems. In fact, I use several yahoo accounts for rewards programs just because of the spam issue.

And I NEVER give my real birthday out for any site (unless it's a requirement - banking, credit cards, government).

I had been using my hotmail account for all of my reward programs and now use my gmail account!

As for personal information, I figure I give enough of that out just posting on the DIS, so that doesn't bother me. Most people here already know my whole life anyway.

I used to use a Yahoo mail account for all of my rewards, but I couldn't tolerate the spam. We use Comcast to connect to the internet and they offer 6 mailboxes - one of which I created specifically for rewards and surveys. I then have Outlook Express set up to sort those emails by program in to folders. I don't signup for anything through the rewards sites with that email address unless I want to be subject to more email.

I have AOL and have one email address just for reward points. I usually give out my correct birthdate....hmm, never thought about it, but I guess I didn't HAVE to. Next time!
