My, What an Interesting Carpet Bag~A Dec. 2013 TR!*Remember Me?!*PTR for May 2015 Link, pg 23!*

I didn't even know there were new bathrooms at the American Adventure? Hahaha, cool.

Omg, that bread pudding story is hilarious! That's too cool!

Ahhhhhh THE GRAND. I just can't, it's too perfect.

What a great dinner! Brandon got what he wanted, you got something you liked, and you were able to sneak away with your favorite Disney dessert! :thumbsup2 That's so awesome. Did you look around to see if anyone was looking at it in Captain Cooke's? :rotfl: I'm sure there was someone going, "I don't see that on the menu? How'd they get it?"

The Grand Floridian's decorations are amazing. It's definitely one of those must-see 's whenever you're there during the holidays.

Great updates, Jen.

How sweet of the CM to get you some bread pudding to go. I love that kind of pixie dust!

We never got to the monorail resorts this trip. I didn't want to push it with Mark because he really dislikes the GF a whole lot and I got him there last year. You got some really terrific pictures there.

:thumbsup2 Subbing! You and your husband sound very similar to me and mine! He is putting me on a Disney hiatus right now and it drives me nuts!

T

I saw the line to meet Anna and Elsa, which was insane! I've heard it gets up to 3 hours, which is just crazy! If characters are that popular, they should have them in other parks, so that one place isn't the only option! Imagine wasting 3 hours in line to meet a character? And I thought 45 minutes for the Dwarves was bad! :rotfl:

We were in that line that very day to see Anna and Elsa! :rotfl2: Waited 1 hour, 45 minutes. Ok, DH waited most of it while DD8,DD4 and I met Mulan and visited Mexico. It was worth the wait for our girls! Crazy nonetheless. Luckily, we were just there in June and could afford to spend time waiting. :goodvibes Can't wait to read more!

Just wanted to wish everyone a Happy, Disney-filled New Year!

Yeah, Thanksgiving weekend can be oppressive. Early in the day it's not too bad, but later on the crowds continue to grow. It doesn't tend to taper off until about Tuesday or Wednesday the following week.

I LOVE taking pictures directly into light, because they always turn out the coolest. I love the ones you took!

I don't think they were anticipating that Anna and Elsa would become so popular so fast.

"Lietenant Dan.......ice cream....."

I'm totally with you on the spicy front. I can't take any spice at all. I get made fun of constantly because of it.

Wow, awesome! Illegal bread pudding! That's some Disney magic there.

Yeah, I found that out! :rotfl: I mean, I knew there would be crowds, and when I planned this trip, I figured I didn't care, I just wanted to go...but now I realized I can't deal with crowds so I won't be going after Thanksgiving for a while!

Thanks, I like taking pictures like that too! You can't see anything at the time you take the picture, but once you look at it, it usually looks awesome!

Yeah, Anna and Elsa are really popular...it's crazy! I'm guessing eventually they will get their own little spot like Rapunzel and become permanent! It's nice that they are in Norway now, but that area can't really handle those crowds!

Haha, Lieutenant Dan! :rotfl:

Yeah I get made fun of for not being able to handle spice either...it's ridiculous. I try to be tough but I just can't take it!

I KNOW! I can't believe it, we actually got bread pudding from 'Ohana! :cool1:

I'm here and loving the start of the TR! All the pictures of Epcot were beautiful and there's nothing better than just wandering the WS!

Um, score on the smuggled bread pudding. I am so envious! I'm eating at 'Ohana during the solo part of my May trip and I'm thinking of requesting I get the courses backward because I never have room for more than a few bites of the dessert.

The Grand looks gorgeous at Christmas. We're booking our early December trip in a few weeks and I cannot wait to see all the decorations myself. And your pictures of the fountain in the villas building were great. We have our first trip "home" to VGF planned for August and I cannot wait. We were lucky enough to get a pre-opening preview of the building in October and we can't wait to spend some real time there?

Yay, glad you're here!

Haha, I can't believe we actually got bread pudding, it was so cool! I know what you mean about 'Ohana, I try to pace myself because I want room for bread pudding at the end...I wonder if they would give that to you first?

I LOVE the Grand! :lovestruc Ahh, you actually own DVC at the Grand? I'm so jealous, that's where I would buy if I could but that won't happen for years...someday, unless I actually move to Florida! I just really want to stay there someday...as much as I am hoping to go to Disney this year, I'm seriously thinking of just skipping it this year and waiting until next May for our 5 year anniversary and staying at the Grand but I don't know...I don't know if I can go a whole year with no Disney! :scared1:

OK, Illegal Bread Pudding!? How freaking cool is that!? Definitely worth a GREAT tip! I can't believe you didn't take any pics at The Poly! I know how it is though...so hungry you can't think about anything but eating and then something exciting happens and you just totally don't even think about it! It happens!

The Grand looks really pretty but I'm still just "eh" about it! Your pics are great, BTW! Although we will probably stay there on DVC points... Lumar loves penguins so that fountain basically cemented that plan! :rotfl2:

I know, I am still amazed that it even happened!! :cool1: I know, I can't believe it either, but we were just focused on figuring out where to eat. It's pretty there but there's no big focus point like the other deluxes.

I am obsessed with the Grand, I need to stay there! I might try to rent points for it too, it will probably be much cheaper than staying at the actual resort. Maybe I'll do a split stay or something, between that and AKL or something. Who knows. As of now, I'm not going back to Disney anytime soon so it's nothing I have to really worry about yet. :rotfl:

Is Kona Island where they sell coffee at during the day? I think that's what it is. OMG! I love the bread pudding story. I probably would have ran outside for fear of getting the server in trouble. Thanks for the laugh tonight! I still think WL is the prettiest at Christmas, sorry. :)

So back to my DCL/Clearwater trip, have you been to Clearwater? I have never been but we were trying to think of where to go after the cruise and we have already been to Cocoa Beach twice. Apparently Clearwater is 3 hours from the cruise port, not too happy about that, but it will be nice to be somewhere different for a change.

Yep that's the same Kona Island! Haha, I wasn't worried about getting him in trouble, I was worried about us getting in trouble! Which is ridiculous...but it just felt like we were doing something wrong! :rotfl:

No, I haven't been to Clearwater, but I've looked at pictures and it looks AMAZING! I want to spend a day there sometime, when I can tear myself away from Disney, but it hasn't happened yet. How do you like Cocoa Beach? It looks nice, but I've read the beaches on the Gulf are much nicer than the Atlantic. Which is why I'm kind of obsessed with Clearwater! You are going to have a great time! :yay:

Oops, I guess I forgot to comment on the previous update!

So glad that you had a migraine-free trip! :thumbsup2 I always feel so bad for you when you have to deal with one.

Also, I wish your Epcot post had been up before our trip, as I had no idea there were new bathrooms or vodka on the ice cream and probably would have checked out both of them!

I agree on the Poly lack of big decorations. There's no big "must see" thing like the rest of the resorts. It's just pretty and pleasant, in general.

That's an awesome story about the bread pudding. Only at Disney!

Nice pictures of the gingerbread house. And cool fountain at the Villas!

Aww, thanks! :goodvibes It's awful when I get a migraine in Disney, but luckily I managed to escape that this time! It was so nice not having to really worry about it this trip! Maybe because it wasn't that hot, I don't know, but I'll take it!

Haha, I figured everyone knew about the new bathrooms in America! They are SO nice. It's a little ridiculous how nice they are, actually! :rotfl: And the ice cream drinks are so cool, it's in the old France bakery, I kind of regret not getting one now, but next time!

I think the Poly looks beautiful for Christmas but it needs something like the other resorts have! Maybe a big gingerbread Stitch? :rotfl:

I'm so happy we got to have our bread pudding! I had an ADR for 'Ohana but I ended up canceling so I'm glad we got to at least have something from there! :dance3:

Great update! :goodvibes

Thanks! :cool1:

We have never eaten at the Island part of Kona. Next time we will try it.
WOW! That was really nice of him to do that.
You should have just walked out the door at Captain Cooks and walked over. You could have walked off the bread pudding. LOL
Nice pics of the gingerbread house.
Look into renting points, it isn’t that expensive but tickets and food make it pricey.
Love Basin.

You should try Kona Island, if you're in the mood for sushi or basically anything from Kona Cafe and don't have an ADR! I love that you can order from that menu, it's so convenient! :thumbsup2

I can't believe we were able to get bread pudding, I'm so glad we asked! Haha, yeah, I suppose we should have walked, but we were so stuffed we barely made it to the monorail!

I'd love to rent points, the only thing I don't like is the fact that you really can't change dates, and I am a chronic date changer, so that's why I've avoided it until now. But now that the Grand is an option, I might just have to pick a week and stick with it and try to stay there!

Isn't Basin amazing? :cool1:

I was in Disney September 16 through 23 - it really wasn't badly crowded, but with free dining, I think it was more than I was expecting it'd be.

Mmmmm bread pudding! I make that recipe all the time... Thank you Allears! :goodvibes Just made it for Christmas actually ;) I literally cannot eat it often enough :rotfl:

Yay! I forgot you guys are Sox fans... Me too! I'm kinda devastated over Ellsbury, how about you?

Can't wait to read more!

Oh, yeah, free dining always makes the slower weeks more crowded! :confused3 I was thinking of going at the end of the month, when Food and Wine starts, which will bring in the crowds too, but at least I know how to handle those crowds, since I've done crazy Food and Wine weekends before!

I tried making the allears bread pudding recipe for Christmas and it didn't work! :( I mean, it tasted ok, but the bread was so soggy, and I kept it in the over much longer than it said to! I ended up throwing it away, the top was fine, and it tasted good, but the inside of the bread was just soaked! Do you alter the recipe at all? I was thinking of not using so much milk next time...

Yeah I'm mad about Jacoby, he has been one of my favorites since he came up from AAA. I mean, it's one thing to leave, but to go to the Yankees? I'm not cool with that. Just like Johnny Damon. :furious:

Joining In. Loving the TR so far. Great pictures. OMG, I can't believe you guys scored some illegal bread pudding. I could so go for some of that right now! lol -Amanda:goodvibes

Yay, welcome, thank you! :cool1: Haha, I know, I can't believe it either! I can always go for bread pudding!

:goodvibes Your photo are beautiful!!

HOLY YUM! Your Kona food looks delish!

So glad you made it through the trip migraine free --- those are no joke! I get them sometimes, and I'd hate for one to hit at Disney (I'm down for the count when they come on!)

Thank you!

It was! I've been thinking I should go to Kona again, but now there's really no need to book an ADR since you can just go to the Island part and order off the menu! :thumbsup2

Thanks! Yeah, that's pretty much how I am when I get a migraine, I just can't function, so when I get one at Disney, it's basically like I lose a whole day. So I was so glad when I made it through this trip migraine free! :woohoo:

Finally back to read your latest updates. I *LOVE* the sticky wings...and how AWESOME that you got some "illegal" bread pudding as well. Disney Magic...LOVE it!! :lovestruc

Our next trip will be Thanksgiving week of 2014 and I can't wait to see some of these same sights....the Gingerbread House, the parks all decorated...just awesome.

Those wings are so good! And the bread pudding was awesome, I wonder if that would ever happen again? I feel like it was a once in a lifetime thing! :rotfl:

You are going to love seeing the parks decorated! And make sure you check out the resorts, they are all so beautiful! Next time I want to go to the 2 resorts I've never seen in person, SSR and OKW! :yay:

Smuggled bread pudding!!! :) haha LOVE IT!!!

I love the grand looking so magical for Christmas!!!! I need to go to disney at Christmas time some day!!!!

OMG I love the penguin fountain in the villas!!!!

Haha, I know right? It felt like we were doing something so bad when we left there with that bad filled with illegal bread pudding!

You do! Definitely go during the holidays, at least once! It's crowded but you have to see the decorations!

Isn't it so cute? I love that fountain!

Hi Jen. Joining late but joining in! Our December dates almost coincided. We arrived on 12/5.

That was too funny about the covert bread pudding. Glad you scored. I have never thought to ask which I should since I don't like any of the Kona desserts. :thumbsup2

The gingerbread house at GF is awesome. Did you find the "hidden Mickey's" and gingerbread men?

Yay, so glad you're here! :cool1: You arrived the day after I left! How were the crowds for you, I hope they died down a little!

You should ask, you never know! I mean, I only thought to ask because I remember reading on here a while ago that if you eat at Kona and ask for bread pudding, they will bring it to you, so I had to test it! :rotfl: I'm so glad I did, it's my favorite Disney dessert!

I didn't know there were hidden Mickey's in the gingerbread house! Or gingerbread men! AHHH! I wish I knew, I would have looked! Oh well, guess I have to go back again! :rotfl:

This is a beautiful picture with great perspective!

I have to agree that the Christmas trees in Epcot are the BEST and the American Pavilion gives me the warm fuzzies. I did not KNOW there were new bathrooms there. How did I miss that? Oh well, next time.

I am shocked at the crowds you are reporting. It doesn't bother me at F&W because there is drinking involved, but still.

What a lovely evening.

I've got to read your newest update later. :goodvibes

Thanks! :thumbsup2

I love the American Pavilion tree, it's funny, I didn't like it the first year that I saw it, but now, it might be my favorite! YES there are new bathrooms, and they are awesome! Make sure you check them out on your next trip!

Yeah the crowds were crazy that weekend! I'm not really bothered at F&W either, but this was just insane! :scared1:

Too funny smuggling bread pudding through the resort! That's so nice that the server brought it to you, even if it did come with a catch!
They sure do make the GF gorgeous at Christmas time. I'm sure you weren't the only ones to walk over to see the villas! Hehehe I totally get that feeling of not supposed to be somewhere though!

Sent from my iPad using DISBoards

I know, I can't believe it! I didn't mind not eating it there, at least we had a place to go and eat in the corner, without anyone really noticing! :rotfl:

I love the GF, I could seriously sit in there for an entire day and not get bored. It's perfect. And the villas...wow. I was so tempted to ask if I could see an empty room, but I really felt like we'd get in trouble...which is insane, but I'm paranoid!

I didn't even know there were new bathrooms at the American Adventure? Hahaha, cool.

Omg, that bread pudding story is hilarious! That's too cool!

Ahhhhhh THE GRAND. I just can't, it's too perfect.

Yes, make sure you check them out in May! They are so nice!

I know, isn't it? I'm so happy we were able to have some bread pudding, it's my favorite after all!

I KNOW! I love the Grand so much! If I ever get rich and can buy DVC...it will be there! :cool1:

What a great dinner! Brandon got what he wanted, you got something you liked, and you were able to sneak away with your favorite Disney dessert! :thumbsup2 That's so awesome. Did you look around to see if anyone was looking at it in Captain Cooke's? :rotfl: I'm sure there was someone going, "I don't see that on the menu? How'd they get it?"

The Grand Floridian's decorations are amazing. It's definitely one of those must-see 's whenever you're there during the holidays.

It was a great dinner! And the bread pudding was so awesome! Haha, no one even looked at us in Captain Cook's they were all too busy eating! :rotfl2: And since it was in a box, you couldn't really see what we were eating anyway!

I love the GF! I have to stay there someday! :lovestruc

Wishing you and Brandon a

Thanks! I know, I love that Disney CM's go out of their way to do special things like that for people! And I love that Brandon being a Red Sox fan always seems to work in our advantage, haha! :rotfl2:

Wow, why does Mark dislike the GF? I admit, when I went in there the first year we went for the holidays, 2009, I got a snotty vibe from the people working there, but ever since, I haven't felt that at all! I love it there! :lovestruc

And Happy New Year to you and your family! pixiedust:

:thumbsup2 Subbing! You and your husband sound very similar to me and mine! He is putting me on a Disney hiatus right now and it drives me nuts!

Yay, welcome! And yay, another Disney freak! :cool1: Haha, I might be on a Disney hiatus too, and I can't stand it! I have to find a way to get there this year! :rotfl:

Subbing in! I am enjoying it so far. Your pictures are great!

Welcome! Thank you so much! :goodvibes

Wow, that's a long wait for characters! At least you spent the time doing something fun, though! And I'm glad your girls liked meeting them, I love Elsa, so I'd love to meet her, but I can't wait that long! I'm sure it will die down, though! I hope! :cool1:

I'm here!! Glad you're doing another TR!!! I love Disney at Christmas... It's the only time I've been! Usually the first week in December. I love all the decor, especially at the resorts.

Good to know the sushi is good there, my DH is always looking for more sushi options at WDW. I love the bread pudding--- and so funny you had to smuggle it!

Can't wait to read more! Happy New Year!

Joining in Jen. So sad you left on my birthday, but I'm quite anxious to hear what it was like the week before I got there.

UGH, I'm so lucky that the people who know me actually ENCOURAGE my Disney obsession. I don't get "You're Going AGAIN??!!". I get "When's you're next trip to Disney?"

Haha, MCO Christmas Tree for the Win!!

Seriously Jen, join one of the free "memberships" that Rental angencies have. With Dollar (Dollar Express, totally free) I literally pick up my bag and walk to my car. So upsell, no line, nothing.

AHHHHHHH I DIDN'T KNOW THERE WAS A SPANISH STACEY CHANNEL!!!! That would have saved me so much grief. :headache:

OMG the Anna and Elsa line. The good news is they are auditioning soon, so hopefully more of them in the parks.

Isn't the Grand just beautiful at Christmas? Plus, that house makes one a bit hungry.

Alright, offically caught up!! :)

Hmmm... I don't alter the bread pudding recipe BUT now that I think about it, maybe I use a lot more bread than the recipe actually calls for. :rotfl:

Ugh, I know... Did it have to be the Yanks?! Yep, just like Damon... :( I was so devastated about Youk, but at least he was so injured I didn't have to actually watch him in pinstripes. :rolleyes1

So excited to read more about your trip! :goodvibes

If it might help for future trip planning, we were there Dec. 5-10 and found the crowds very manageable. Almost on the slow side for that time of year. We went to MVMCP on Sun. night which was also not crowded at all. I would definitely go that week again. :santa:

I had no idea that Kona Island even existed! That's awesome you can order anything from Kona, I might have to try that sometime!

Too funny about smuggling the bread pudding, but SO nice of the waiter!

Wow, why does Mark dislike the GF? I admit, when I went in there the first year we went for the holidays, 2009, I got a snotty vibe from the people working there, but ever since, I haven't felt that at all! I love it there! :lovestruc

Our first visit there, we ran into numerous snooty CM's while touring the resort. He refuses to ever stay there. It's beautiful, but it really isn't for me either. But I enjoy going there during the holidays. :)

I am obsessed with the Grand, I need to stay there! I might try to rent points for it too, it will probably be much cheaper than staying at the actual resort. Us either! We were thinking about doing a weekend trip either for SWW or maybe for a few days at the beginning of December, but I don't know if it will actually happen. I hate to think about NOT going but financially..we need a break! Fuzzy Disney Math just isn't cutting it anymore! :rotfl2:

Can't wait to read more! Happy New Year!

Yay so glad you're here, and thank you! :goodvibes It's pretty much the only time I go to Disney it seems, around Christmas! So it seems strange to go at other times! It's just extra magical during the holidays!

I can take or leave sushi, so it's not a big deal to me, but my DH is obsessed, and he really loves Kona Island, I guess it's really good? So keep it in mind if your DH is looking for a place! :thumbsup2

Joining in Jen. So sad you left on my birthday, but I'm quite anxious to hear what it was like the week before I got there.

Isn't the Grand just beautiful at Christmas? Plus, that house makes one a bit hungry.

Alright, offically caught up!! :)

Yay, so glad you're here! :cool1:

Haha, I have a few people who encourage my Disney obsession, but most like to ask the "you're going again" and "why don't you go somewhere else" questions! I'm used to it by now!

I'm a member of Alamo Insiders, but I don't think it helps...the problem is, that I add my husband as an additional driver and for some reason, you have to go to a person when you do that. I will look into Dollar though, I always use Alamo and rent through Costco because it's usually the cheapest and you get the free additional driver. And the line is never really THAT long! It just seemed insane that day! :scared1:

I know, I just read your update about you being Stacey-less, I can't believe Pop just doesn't have Stacey! Don't they understand that people NEED her to start their vacations? I'm so glad I flipped through the channels, because I'm not going to lie, my heart was starting to race a little and I was getting a bit panicky...

Oh good, I hope they add more Anna's and Elsa's! Although I'm guessing the line might die down a little now that the holidays are over?

Ahh, the Grand! :cloud9: It's just perfect, and I always contemplate buying one of the gingerbread shingles that they sell there, but...I'm not really a fan of gingerbread! I like the way it smells, but the taste isn't that great! Maybe Disney gingerbread is good though, I've never actually tried it!

Yay!

:goodvibes

Yeah I think I'll have to use more bread and cut down on the milk...I've read other bread pudding recipes, just to compare, and they use 2 cups of milk and this one uses 3, so maybe that's my problem? :confused3

Yeah, I can't stand when anyone on the Sox goes to the Yankees. I think Youk is going to play in Japan this year or something? No one wants him. I feel bad, he was so good!

If it might help for future trip planning, we were there Dec. 5-10 and found the crowds very manageable. Almost on the slow side for that time of year. We went to MVMCP on Sun. night which was also not crowded at all. I would definitely go that week again. :santa:

That's good to know, I will definitely keep that in mind! Although I think from now on, I'll just go in November, I like catching the end of F&W and the beginning of Christmas! :thumbsup2 I'm glad you had low crowds on your trip!

I had no idea that Kona Island even existed! That's awesome you can order anything from Kona, I might have to try that sometime!

Too funny about smuggling the bread pudding, but SO nice of the waiter!

Yeah, it's a nice option to have when you want something from Kona but don't have a lot of time!

I know, getting the bread pudding was awesome! So nice of him to do that! :worship:

Our first visit there, we ran into numerous snooty CM's while touring the resort. He refuses to ever stay there. It's beautiful, but it really isn't for me either. But I enjoy going there during the holidays. :)

Yeah, that's how I felt the first time I visited but I think they've gotten much friendlier. Someone must have talked to them about that, because they're always really nice and welcoming now! :thumbsup2 It's not exactly "me" but it's just so beautiful, I have to stay there at least once!

Us either! We were thinking about doing a weekend trip either for SWW or maybe for a few days at the beginning of December, but I don't know if it will actually happen. I hate to think about NOT going but financially..we need a break! Fuzzy Disney Math just isn't cutting it anymore! :rotfl2:

I'm actually thinking of doing a solo trip in May, but who knows? I want Disneyland to happen, so if I need to save all of my money for that and skip Disney World this year, then that's what I have to do! Although I wouldn't mind a weekend trip to Food and Wine...we'll see! :rotfl:

Count me in!! We were at Disney the week before you and I had that great holiday sandwich from Earl of Sandwich.. I loved it!!! Can't wait to hear more!!
