I had a Maytag that finally started leaking oil when it was 40 years old. Two other people had owned it before us.

So I bought another one.

40 yrs?.....WOW. The salesman at Sears today said Maytag only last 6 - 7 yrs now.

Our GE broke 1 1/2 weeks ago, for the second time in 10 months with the same problem. It's only 3 1/2 years old. First repair was $262; this one was $120. Next time it breaks it gets loaded on the repairman's truck and taken anyplace but here. Then we will buy a Maytag.

Maytags are NOT like they used to be. My MIL had one that lasted forever. Because of that I got a Maytag when my 20+ year-old Sears one died right before my middle child was born. Unfortunately, I found myself washer shopping again just a few years later.

My washer and dryer are both on their last legs, and I'm shopping too.

I was looking at the Maytags, and here's what I've learned: Apparently the traditional top-loading machines are great, but there are major issues with the new front-loaders (even a class action suit). Maytag was bought out a couple years ago by a foreign company, and they aren't made like they used to be. They're going to be bought out by Whirlpool (?) soon, and who knows what could happen.

I'm looking at the Whirpool Duet.

We have whirlpool washer/dryer that's about 9 years old. We've never had one problem with it. Although I probably just jinxed myself. :teeth:

Last Friday, our dryer died. It was an Amana and was part of the house purchase last year. When we removed it from the laundry room, we found that I very well could have burned the house down since there were burn marks on the back of the dryer that were about 10 inches long. Thank God, I didn't, but it was a reminder that I really shouldn't start an appliance running and then leave the house, but I was in a hurry.

We found a great deal on a Maytag dryer at HHGregg. Unfortunately, once you factored in the warranty and the additional service call to have the Maytag repair man come out to install a side vent kit, our great deal on an awesome machine was quite expensive....like about $700. But, the machine has a commercial quality steel drum, all the best features, and it's HUGE with 7.1 cubic feet of capacity.

I love my new dryer!!!! Now, if only our washer was a large capacity washer to match.....Is it bad to wish the washer dead?!?! :teeth: Maggie

I will never buy another GE product again...their products are not quality and their customer service is even worse

I have a GE microwave and have had nothing but problems with it....I get no where with their service people and have even been accused of lying by one of them. GE sucks!

Hi.. We have had many different types of washer/dryers.. we moved alot..
The Kenmore super capacity was very, very good. The Kitchen Aide was good, the old Fridgidaire.. was ok...

That being said when we purchased this house I purchased
a Maytag Neptune top load washer and a drying center.. the double dryer..
which I LOVE!! The extra dryer on top for hang dry, sweaters etc is FABULOUS!!! The Top load washer is good too.. I don't fight with the kids about using the wrong settings anymore.. it is very easy to use.

As far as Maytags Front loaders... the problems have been solved with the new models. I just find a top loader easier to use.
