My thoughts about the new promotion due next week

boomhauer said:
Yeah, that is kind of silly. However, I think we have a right to be somewhat insulted by a free park hopping and free water park promotion in January and February. Park hopping is only an additional $37, and as most have said - Who cares about water parks during those months, especially when only one is open?

I would be less insulted with no promotion as opposed to one that pokes fun at the $2,000 I'm spending there, with a "generous" offer from Disney to save me $37.

I disagree that anyone has a right to be insulted over the offer of a discount, regardless of the amount of discount. This discount isn't your cup of tea, waterparks in Jan aren't your thing (btw- the only time we went to a water park was in the second week of January last year - had a BLAST) park hopping doesn't cost a lot to begin with - these are reasons to be insulted??

Sorry I think your expectation are too high. I love to get discounts when I go to Disney as well, but I'm always thankful for those discounts, regardless of their amount. And I plan finacially as if no discounts will be available, so I'm not in "need" of $$$ off.

Don't forget, the Plus options can also be used for Pleasure Island and DisneyQuest ! I have never been to either, and would love a chance to check them out for free.

That's true! I would always like to check them out, but never know about paying extra!

I don't know that I would call this possible promotion insulting, but I would definitely agree that it isn't enough to get people to say "Hey, this is great! Let's plan a vacation to Disney!" It's a bonus, I guess, for those already planning to go, but not incentive enough for those who haven't planned yet.

And in my marketing opinion ;) the whole purpose of a promotion is to get people to say "Hey, this is great! Let's plan a vacation to Disney!", right? As for us people who are probably going no matter what, I don't think they really care, b/c we are going no matter what. But when you're trying to entice people to go to Disney, then yes, I think an offer like that IS insulting.

Let's just hope we're all wrong and its a GREAT deal!

I agree, HLAuburn, a promotion SHOULD be an act of enticement. If it's not, then their marketing team needs to go back to the drawing board. They are just wasting money IMHO. I guess, for me to be insulted, I would have to take it personally somehow.

Why bother quoting me if you're going to put words in my mouth? I never said that it was easy for anyone to pay $2000. I said that some of us are easily insulted.

If you find a smaller-than-hoped-for discount insulting, heaven help the person who is actually trying to insult you.

Sorry - Wasn't my intention. I'm simply responding to your remarks that some of us are easily insulted. And yes, I am. From a business standpoint, I don't think this is a promotion at all. It's basically a way of Disney saying "After you've spent $50 on lunch at Magic Kingdom, hop on over to Epcot for dinner and let more people into Magic Kingdom."

And maybe I am looking at it from the wrong perspective, but as someone who gives Disney alot of money, I think this is rather insulting. I know what a trip to Disney costs, and I know what is and isn't a big deal. Of course, we don't know for sure if it's true or not, but I find something very wrong about a company offering a promotion that would make one think they are saving money, when in fact, they are not.

See, I'm odd like that. I'm one of those people who for instance, takes my company very seriously. When my company offers a discount or promotion, we do it 2 fold - One is, to get more business obviously. But 2, is to give a little something back to our clients who give us their hard earned money.

Not everyone will feel the way I do. I just think, that if on Thursday I hear that the new Disney promotion is free park hopping and water park entry - I'd consider it sort of a slap in the face. If they offered free water park entry in June and July - It'd be a different story.

Also, in case you've skipped over some of my older posts, remember - There was a pin code email going around offering 6 nights/7 days, for $433 per person, tickets included. For 7 nights, I was quoted $865 per person. THAT is what insults me.

My last pin code for Jan thru begin of march seemed like a great great deal, I think it was 1250 for room, myw tix w hopper and plus pack...

if they offer this to the public that is a big savings right??

I could not use it, unless I get one for mid March then HECK YEAH!!

seems to me like the room was discounted with this deal along with the free upgrade on tix but I could be wrong, I forget how many nights that was for...

I would guess that sometime in the last couple years, Disney's computer system was upgraded so that it could cope with the whatever the marketing folks dreamed up. Once that limitation was removed, the marketing folks could put some of their wildest dreams into motion -- and that is what we're seeing.

For better or worse, I don't think it will stop anytime soon.. There will always me a major multi-year marketing blitz supported by "crazy" promotions. Anyone tried to buy a Dell computer in recent years? What's standard in the base price changes weekly. You can hardly compare last month's system with this month's as they make it so hard to compare "Apples vs. Apples".

We just used 4 of our 7 days on our 7 day ticket (Wilma had something to do with that). When you divide by 7, the daily price doesn't seem so bad. Pure marketing genius.

Of course, we don't know for sure if it's true or not, but I find something very wrong about a company offering a promotion that would make one think they are saving money, when in fact, they are not.

that's what marketing is.

Okay, so I'm sort of still new around here but there are two things I can't seem to understand??

HOW are people getting these pins attached to their name or e-mailed to them>???? I've done all the registering on Disney and I have the visa card and all that and I've still NEVER received any special code or pin from Disney for any vacation type promotion.

Second, I can't find on Mousesavers where the information is posted about this new promo coming out?? Please help me with that. I visit the site everyday and haven't seen anything about this promo and am feeling quite in the dark....boo hoo...

I'll take any promo I can get since I seem to be off whatever list necessary to get the goodies that most of you seem to recieve regularly.

Hi Amy and Welcome :)

There's really no method to the madness of pin codes...no one really knows who gets them and why and when. Your best bet is doing what you've done - sign up on disney.com, order the vacation planning DVD, and get the Disney Visa. Other than that, I think its mostly out of your control.

As for mousesavers, check the home page frequently. Anything new is in red. The info on the latest special is here:
http://www.mousesavers.com/packages.html
Almost all the way at the bottom in red. When new info comes out, you should find it on the main page.

Hope this helps :)

I still think the "big" WDW discounts will be during hurricane season only...

Just read an article on how tourism is up, especially in FL. Airfare (in many makets) & rental car rates have both gone up. If WDW doesn't need big discounts to fill their rooms, they're not going to offer it...they're in business to make money. I'm sure they'll test the waters carefully w/a modest savings...if the fish don't bite, they can always sweeten the pot to entice last minute travelers.

Although the folks on this board are savy consumers and follow the rate trends, we represent a small portion of the overall WDW guests.

If Disney tells the general public they're getting a great deal via print & media ads, the majority will buy it hook, line & sinker.

Discounts were few & far between before 9/11, unfortunately, we may be edging back to that method of operation.

Well, I just stumbled on this, but I think you need to step away for minute and think.. Disney is NOT attempting to insult you....This is NOT about you, but about Disney's bottom line. If the person buying is saving as much as a dollar then Disney is doing nothing wrong. You seem to think that Disney is aiming at you personnally???? This is NOT a personal attack by Disney on you. That would be an Insult....

One thing that always amazes me is that folks seem to think Disney is a charity out to make us all happy. It's a business, out to make it's STOCKHOLDERS happy!!!

I'm not saying it's being aimed at me personally. I never said that and certainly don't feel that way.

I guess, after 5 years on every Disney mailing list and having never received 1 pin code or email, yes, I'm a bit frustrated. Of course I understand it's marketing. Of course it's all about the bottom dollar.

But when I see an email going out to some people to stay at the exact same resort I'm staying at, for the exact same amount of time, for the exact same ticket - And that email is saving that person $400 more than what I was quoted - Yes, I get insulted.

Mary says the discounts are available! how did it turn out? (I dont have any numbers to compare it to in order to find out).... hope you all can save a bunch! :wizard:

I saved $413 today with the code. My original package price (POR for 7 nights with dining and 8 day hoppers) was $3049...it is now $2636 and we now have the Plus options we didn't have before.

So....I am happy with it :cool1: :cool1: :cool1: :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc
