DS #1 has been going through the recruitment process this week for the US ARMY. We met with the recruiters on Wed. for 2 hours and they picked him up today at 3pm to have testing and physicals tomorrow. He called to say he did very well on his first tests and was about to eat dinner, watch the Super Bowl and go to bed. Wake up call is 4am.
I am alternating between profound sadness and being very proud and impressed by him. I have a feeling these feelings are going to be my normal for a few years to come.
He is very determined to do this and has always been interested in military history. He wants to be either a cavalry scout or infantryman. He is also wanting to be stationed in Germany. Hopefully this will happen but I am afraid it may be by way of Iraq. He is okay with whatever comes, he says, although he is not convinced we should go to war at this time, just as his parents are. He does not enter until after graduation in June, maybe later in the summer they tell us now.
I am finding a new respect and appreciation for all of you military families. Thank you so much for all your sacrifices. Wish him some pixie dust for us.
Thanks,
Mike's mom

You expressed what all military families feel. My DH was an active duty naval officer for 13 years and has been a reservist for 7, so I understand.
