Just had to share... My 15 year old son passed his Eagle Board of Review and is now an Eagle Scout. This has been his goal since 1st grade when he joined Cub Scouts and a bit of mama pushing on my part but the rest was all him... I am so proud of him...
He is his troops Senior Patrol Leader currently and plans to continue in the troop as an active member, unlike many other boys we have know who reach eagle and drop out. In fact he has already earned two palms (not as familiar with what those are yet) and is 3/5 of the day to another palm too...

As the proud mom of two EAGLES, I would like to congratulate your DS for his hard work in reaching the awesome rank of EAGLE!!! :thumbsup2

Congratulations to your DS! What a huge accomplishment for not only the Eagle Scout, but for the whole family! My DS just started working on his Eagle project, and we know what a big project it is and the long journey for so many years it is to make it there.

Best wishes to your DS~

Congratulations to you and your DS from another Eagle Scout mom!! :thumbsup2

BTW, I believe the Eagle Palms denote that the scout earned badges over and above what was required for Eagle rank.

BSA Palms
Palms represent additional advancement for a young man who has stayed active in his unit. A Palm is awarded when the Scout has been active in the unit for at least three months since attaining Eagle (or a previous Palm); has demonstrated Scout Spirit, leadership and ability; has earned five additional merit badges beyond those required for Eagle or the last Palm; and has taken part in a conference with his unit leader.

The insignia is a small metallic palm frond pin or device that is worn on the ribbon of the Eagle Scout medal or the Eagle Scout square knot. The Palms are awarded in three colors: bronze, representing five merit badges; gold, representing ten merit badges; and silver, representing fifteen merit badges. For each Palm awarded for five additional merit badges beyond the first bronze, gold, and silver recognitions, Palms are worn in combinations which require the smallest number of devices to reflect the total number of Palms earned. For instance, a Scout who has earned eight Palms would wear two silver Palms and a gold Palm. The order of bronze, gold and silver follows heraldic traditions borrowed from the U.S. military.

Because of the three-month service requirement for palms, and the termination of advancement on a Scout's 18th birthday, the ability to earn palms will depend on the timing of a Scout's Eagle Board of Review. For example, a Scout who earns Eagle within three months before his 18th birthday will be unable to earn any palms regardless of the number of merit badges earned, because he will not be able to perform three months additional active service before becoming ineligible for further advancement.

Great Job Mom! Our troop gives the Mom a pin and a rose in the ceremony to thank her for all the driving and support that Mom's do in getting a boy to Eagle.

Congratulations to your son.

:cool1: Congratulations to you and your son! That is a huge accomplishment. I hope my son (who just earned his Bear badge) will be able to do the same!

Congratulations to him! That is a wonderful achievement!

Good for him for continuing. Our troop tends to be get-Eagle-and-drop out too. I am pushing "my" guys (I was their den leader) towards shooting for palms as well.

FYI, there is a time requirement for palms, so he hasn't earned any yet. (My guess is he has 13 extra badges above Eagle- they need 5 per palm, so your numbers would line up.) There's also a requirement to be an active member 3 months after Eagle (and after each palm) and to show continued leadership (though doesn't have to be a formal leadership position.) Then scoutmaster conference and board of review THEN he'll be done. (Piece of cake though after Eagle, just basically hang out and be helpful. :thumbsup2

Congrats to your son and to his proud Momma!

My cousin was an Eagle Scout and absolutely loved it. :)

Congratulations to You and your Son!

It is an awesome accomplishment! :thumbsup2

My Son is an Eagle too! I got to pin his Eagle pin on him. I was so proud! :goodvibes

Congratulations! What a proud moment. I love going to Eagle Scout Court of Honors.

I have a palm question for the pp. Do the additional merit badges have to be earned after earning Eagle rank or just the additional service months? My 12 year old has already figured how many merit badges he needs to earn per year to get all three palms. I just want to make sure he is on the right path.

That is awesome!!!!! Our oldest son is working on his right now.

Congratulations!!!!

Congratulations! DH didn't make it to eagle Scout and it's one regret from his youth. :thumbsup2 to your son!!!

thank you everyone.. I am one proud mom.. I was his Cub Scout leader for years but when he bridged into Boy Scouts I let him do it on his own. He has developed such great leadership skills from Boy Scouts. I am very impressed with him and the compliments I receive from others about him (though he is a bit different at home) :)

Congratulations. I am the mother of two Eagle Scouts and dh has helped many other young men to become Eagles through his troop and our council. He now sits on Boards of Review.

My older son got 1 palm. My younger son got 3 palms.

Palms are a combination of extra merit badges, extra time being an active scout and a demonstration of leadership to the troop.

We are very much a scouting family and dh and I love going to Eagle ceremonies.

Enjoy

Additional MB are from anytime in his boy scout career. They can actually can earn multiples of each palm- earning every MB out there would mean 20 palms. (Also meant they'd have gotten their Eagle by like 13 for time purposes, which I'm not even sure is possible with time and tenures.)

Great his planning ahead. Big thing is to make sure he's got TIME after he makes Eagle. I've had 3 guys hand in their paperwork on their 18th birthday :scared1:, no possiblity for palms there (and frankly lucky they had all their i's dotted! I had council call me on one of them saying he was missing a MB {turned out to be a clerical error}, he had NO time to remedy if that had been the case though!)
