My resort, vacation cost and my co-workers, ughh

My coworkers are love the earth only buy local types so they view my disney obsession as pretty awful for giving money to an evil corporation. My boss for vacation went to some folk school to learn how to make stain glass, most go camping, and one went to a farm to work on vacation. I am the oddball and get lots of looks for loving disney, and meat, and that I shop at a large grocery store. I am used to the hate LOL.

Goodness! What do they say when you come to work wearing those light-up Mickey ears? You DO go to work with those Mickey ears, don't you?

Oh my! Bless your heart. Sounds like some different type folk there. We have a lake lot on Lake Weiss in Alabama that we keep a camper on year round. I hate going camping there, hate it. But it's my husband's version of Disney.

When I told my boss how long we were staying, he asked where we were staying. When I said, "Yacht Club," he said, "Boy, I must be paying you too much." He was joking, but I felt compelled to say, "Oh, we've been saving up for this for a very long time."

I make a decent living, but we also make Disney World vacations a financial priority. We don't blow money on a lot of the crap that many people do.

Bottom line, you have to stop worrying about what other people think and do your thing. It's the key to life.

I stopped trying to get folks to understand that there are all kinds of Disney vacations at every price point. Now, if someone tells me that Disney was "too expensive" or makes comments about what we must be sending I simply tell them, knowing smile included "I NEVER pay full price for anything" and move on. I figure if someone wants to speculate about what I spend on vacation I should graciously give them plenty to think about.

I'm not bragging about anything!! I am just anticipating what all will be said. But you know, I need to quit worrying about what others think. But when you get comments like I did just last week from a co-worker, it aggrevates me a bit. But ya, I just need to let it go in one ear and out the other.

You will never stop the snide remarks, the comments about cost, or the endless blather about amusement park vacations. You can stop them from affecting you. It honestly depends on the mood I am in and how the comment was directed to me, but I sometimes either lecture on and on and on aboaut how it is possibel to find good discounts, things to do, etc, tell them that I would rather chew glass and die than go to the beach (or whatever the person has for their vacation choice) year after year, or I will just offer to discuss if they ever want to take The family or vacation as a couple.

I have to be really snippy to give the lecture, because those folks rarely ever open that door again. I need to be in a bad mood to dis someones vacation choice so I try not to be annoyed enough to do that either.

Honestly, I seldom get remarks anymore, and after posting pics on FB< the people who matter to me get it. ANd some wnat to come with me! LOL!

Not surprised when family, friends, and co-workers ask how much my trip cost. There are threads on this board asking the very same thing.

It's important to accept that there are a lot of people who don't *get* Disney World. Most people view it as something parents feel obligated to *endure* once, for the sake of their kids, and be done (that was me before my first trip). Therefore, they see it as a painful way to spend a big chunk of money.

It is a select minority of adults who have the depth of imagination and type of heart that makes the magical fantasy world of Disney their favorite place to be. You should feel special that you are one of those few.

Oh, I know. I understand that he doesn't realize how special WDW is for my family so I don't say anything except, "Well, what can I say it, we love it there!" I used to defend myself and our trips but over the years have learned that it's useless to do so -- some people just don't get it.

I can see asking about cost on a Disney message board where people are fairly anonymous. But asking someone you see daily in person is very different to me. I could even see asking about a specific component, like "How much is a ticket to the Magic Kingdom these days", but asking about the cost of the vacation is just rude.

When co-worker asks if you are going anywhere for vacation - tell them "Just not here" meaning work. They don't need to know anymore. If they ask what you are going to do tell them "anything I want."

That's really all it takes. They're not going to get any more information that someone wants to give them.

I get this from a coworker all the time. "You're going again? Didn't you just go? Do you really need to go again? I can't see why you'd need to go so often" A few times I explained, we take a big family trip every other summer, or we're staying with friends outside of Disney. Now I just say, this is one of the few vacation places that truly is for all four of us. It's not a trip for the kids that we put up with, and it's not a trip mainly for the adults that we drag the kids to. The four of us all love everything about it and thoroughly enjoy our time there and more importantly we're together the whole time. The money is worth it for us because it's a trip for all of us.
