Well its about 6 weeks out till our trip and I am starting to dread mentioning it my co-workers. I mean they already have an idea because I have mentioned the needed dates, (for my name on the vacation calendar)

I really don't want to be honest about how much it costs to stay at the AKL. I'm sure they will ask something though.:headache:

If you don't feel comfortable talking about the cost of your vacation, don't mention your trip. Simple.

I totally agree where you go and how you spend YOUR money is none of their damn business. And if they ask shame on them....tell them you don't discuss your personal finances with co workers.....

I'm not going to. I am going to try to avoid the topic all together. I just started thinking about it last night at work, with the discussion of the vacation boards being put up.

Me and my coworkers talk about everything. We spend a lot of time together, and are in a cube environment. I totally get where you are coming from. Its kinda awkward to not talk about your vacation...but I don't like talking about how much i spend on vacations either.

Why would it even be considered, to tell them?

You could just not say you're going to wdw. You could tell them about wdw but that you're at pop. Or offsite. Or anywhere. Or that it's a surprise.

If you are honest about where you'll be they can go look it up but that's on them. Like when my maid of honor looked up our wedding photographer cost and gave me crap about it. Not my issue that she was so nosy.

It's hard, because everyone prioritizes spending differently. Some folks I know love to have a decorator come do their house, some like to go out a lot, some enjoy expensive things like pricey bags and cosmetics, some golf, etc. We do Disney! There's nothing wrong with any choice, it's just that we all decide for ourselves where our money is best spent. :)

Is there a reason why you would avoid talking about the cost? Just curious. I know people where I work often talk about the places they travel to. These conversations almost always lead to discussions of flight costs, hotels, good deals, bad deals, etc....

Do you ask others how much their vacation costs? I consider that very rude!

Whenever someone asks you a question that you don't want to answer (on any subject) reply with..."why do you need to know?"... That puts the uncomfortable-ness on the other person when they realize there is no good reason for them to be so nosy.

I get what the OP is saying. Lots of times people don't come right out and ask you, they just say "You're going to Disney again? That must cost a fortune!" and then wait for a reaction. Most people, or at least someone in their family, have gone to Disney and taken the hit on the wallet, so they know the price. I usually just smile when I get that comment, coz I KNOW they be jealous! They be jealous!!!!

Yep.

I've received many comments like that.

My response is, "well, it can be expensive." Or maybe a simple smile.

I have had and have asked myself, "how much does that cost?"
It's more of a sounds sweet maybe I can afford to do it too, not a status, jealousy, or anything else negative when I have witnessed it.

I reply to the question "why do you go so much" with "I own a timeshare (DVC)". People don't seem to know how to respond to that.

I just answer the questions. It's not a big deal to me. The person who asks the price of a hotel can easily google to find out the prices anyways.

Now it would be rude for them to gasp at the price and say "You're paying that much for that hotel???" Fortunately, most people are just curious about prices or they want to get in on it too if it's a really good deal. :)
