My puppy Nala was "fixed" last Friday. The first "cone of shame" that they gave her was too big, so I took her back to the vet to have it replaced with a smaller one. She was fitted with a smaller one and overnight, while in her cage, she got out of it and ATE half of it! :scared1: I wasn't surprised, because she eats EVERYTHING! I put the bigger cone back on her (only at night) and two nights ago she got out of that one and ate that one too! Needless to say, I woke to find little piles of plastic that she has thrown up this morning!:headache: The vet says as long as she throws it up she should be ok.

I should have named her Hoover....:confused3

Poor Nala. When my dog was spayed last year she wasn't given the cone. I was told to watch her and we had no problem. I've seen some of the "cones" that are similar to the inflatable bath pillows. You could try spraying bitter apple spray on the things you don't want her to chew. It works for some dogs. Chewed plastic isn't friendly to the digestive tract. Good luck. Eventually they do stop chewing things--it may be years from now, but they will stop.

I had a Hoover puppy once too.

Petsmart sells a blow up donut for the puppies, that is harder to get at. My puppy was spayed a month ago, and surprisingly she didn't need to wear the cone because not once did she ever go for the area. However, someone forgot to mention to her that she major surgery, because I had all I could do from keeping her from jumping up and down on the furniture and running up the steps. She is a small maltese, so I was really concerned. But after about 5 days I just gave up. She was fine.

I've sprayed my entire house with the bitter apple stuff after Nala decided to chew up the door frames and the base boards in my house! Nala is a sweet puppy, but I'm ready for her to grow up!:sad2:

Thank goodness Nala hasn't been bothering her stitches, so I haven't bothered to buy another cone.:cool1:
