So this is the budget buster that i woke up to this morning. We live in an apartment and when I went down to the car this morning to leave for work this is what I found:( No note so it is going to cost us $300 to get it fixed. I know it could have been worse but so not fair that I have to pay for someone elses stupidity

Oh that sucks, and with the missing paint it needs to be fixed......

That stinks!

I was out driving tonight and was on a steep hill waiting for the light to turn green. The car in front of me starts to drift backward, when I realized that he wasn't going to stop I started to lay on my horn. The idiot still bumped into me! Then the light turned green and he drove off!! I recited the license plate to my DD until I was able to scrounge up a piece of paper & pen. I followed the guy down the road and he finally stopped at a red light. I got out of my car to inspect the damage and was glad to see my car was fine. His car however was banged up by my license plate holder!! I felt better knowing that his car was damaged, at least a little bit.:thumbsup2

I'm guessing that's your deductible, because I can't imagine damage like that only costing $300 to fix. I'd put that at well over $1,000, as it appears the trunk lid and bumper both need replacing/painting.

Look at all the cars. Someone once scraped my car at my apartment and he was too stupid to take the white paint from my car off his bumper. When the officer came the guy said "well I was going to tell you eventually". Yea right!

I was about to say, Give me the number to your body shop if it's that cheap!

We do plan on looking at all the cars in the parking lot to see if we can see any paint.

Yes the $300 is deductible. I have not gotten a quote yet b/c I had to come to work. But Im sure it would cost alot more than $300 to fix it, and with the paint chipped off it needs to be fixed.

Wow, I would die if I ever had that happen.

We once got slammed from behind sitting at a red light. And it wasn't just an idiot not slowing down. No we sat through the whole light (in the turn lane). The turn light goes green, and we're like 10 cars behind... and BAM! He hit the gas, when I didn't even move 2 inches. It created this wierd force, cause it popped the center console out, knocked the wind out of us, but the only outside damage was a bent bumper. It's a metal bumper, it's just reduced the towing capacity for the truck... but still.
I was driving at the time, and I wasn't on Kari's policy at the time (it's her vehicle). So we never filed though the insurance. And at 20 years old, Kari didn't want anything to affect her already high premiums.

Looks like it was an suv or a truck more than likely. The bottom part looks as if it was done with a trailer hitch wiht a ball on the end and the top was done wiht something sticking out over the top.

I would guess big truck with a trailer hitch or a fedex truck, with it's square box on the back...

Sorry to see that happened to you. Just so you don't feel so alone I have the exact same car as you in blue and when we were at Disney World last year someone there hit our bumper causing the plastic to bend in and the paint to crack. Same thing no note.

I do hope you find the car that hit you.

that really is not fair, especially, at this time of year. It would be great if you could find out who did it, sounds like you have some clues now:grouphug: at least.:grouphug:

I got hit on I-Drive last year near Sea World (not the 1st time on I-drive either.. idiots) at a light. I pulled over to stop and inspect and the heffer driving the car ran off, so I did a pursuit.

She did a uturn over the median, and so did I, but since she had a mini car, she ran between 2 cars at a light and turned and I got stuck in the wonder van.

We got the plate, but the plates came back from Ft. Lauderdale as being 3 yrs expired on a car that wasn't even the original registered car. luckily no damage other than paint on the bumper..

I hate I-drive...

:grouphug: SORRY!
My dh came home from work a few weeks back with our Honda CRV sporting a BIG pushed in area like 8" across and a long dented in scratch on the rear driver side. SOmeone must have misjudged when they tried to park next to him (at WORK) so the lousy person KNOWS they did it and it was prob in a company truck so WHY they did not at least leave a note is beyond me ..Just AWFUL and it is the first damage to it, a 97 that was one of the first to roll off the conveyor...yeah, pretty attached to it...LOVE honda (Pilots even better, LOL)
Again, sorry some nasty person did that to your car! :grouphug:

Thank you for your kind words and im sorry to those who have similar stories.

Many years ago my DH hit someone in the parking lot with his Scout (think bronco type suv). He left a note. The guy had an old minivan that already had alot of damage to it and claimed alot of it as DH fault. Yea he really caused the scratch on the left side when he hit the right:rotfl: DH wanted to handle it with out insurance but the guy was being over the top with the damage so they let the insurance handle it but I bet it is because of people like that that people dont leave notes:(

My daughter, a newer driver, called me in a panic one day this past summer as she had misjudged when to turn the wheel when backing out of a parking space at the mall. She clipped the chrome bumper of a pickup truck she was parked next to, and wanted me to help. There was damage to my car...a nice cut in the fender...but no visible damage to the pickup which she described as "old". Because it was the mall, the owner of the truck was inside somewhere. She wasn't sure how to find him/her.

I told her she HAD to call the police. It was an accident, plain and simple...and whether there was damage or not to the other car she had an obligation to call it in or it was a hit and run.

I got over to the mall and sure enough, damage to my car. But the truck was a 20+ year old Dodge with lots of rust, four different paint colors because of the replacement parts added, and just a mess. The chrome bumper MAYBE had a tiny, tiny nick in the edge where it cut into my front fender. Clearly a lot more damage to my car.

The police officer was great. Took her information, but no report yet. He said he wouldn't write it up unless I insisted upon it at this point, but would wait to hear from the other driver. He ran the plates and left his card on the windshield, telling me that if the other owner wanted to file a report for damage I would be contacted.

We did wait a bit nervously, as a ticket for careless driving would have been issued if the other driver insisted on a report...but I reassured my daughter that regardless of the outcome she did the right thing. You don't hit someone's car and drive off.

Fortunately, we heard nothing more. My guess is the pickup owner laughed when he tried to find any damage, and was hopefully happy that a young new driver was responsible enough to contact the police after hitting his truck. Good karma follows doing the right thing, I guess.

My car has been hit 4 times,(not to mention broken into 3 or 4 times) and only once did someone leave a note. I have spent at least 3 thousand on fixing my car when someone else runs into it and just drives away. I can't tell you how angry this makes me. I could not hit someone and just drive away. My conscience just wouldn't allow it. It feels good to do the right thing, and take responsibility for your actions. I just can't believe the number of people that just drive away. I have to wonder, are they happy? Are they laughing because they got away with it? Do they feel any guilt at all? It just makes me so angry. I want revenge in the worst way when someone breaks into, steals, or bangs into my car.

I agree that is not a regular car. Also agree it had a tow hitch on it. There must have been paint exchange. I could almost bet, if they life near by, they are not parking nearby right now...keep looking.
OR they were a visitor, keep your eyes peeled.

I would make a police report too...call and ask for a report in case you can locate the vehicle.
It will bite the person back!

I am not sure why the police officer would tell you a citation for careless driving would be issued???
As an over 20+ years in law enforcement in "Pennsylvania Vehicle Code", you can only write careless driving citations for roadway violations, or when major offenses occur; ie) DWI.....
The vehicle codes state enforceable on roadways. that means not a parking lot. That is private property!

He did not even say, driving unsafe speed, he was more serious at careless driving, that is a very serious offense used when there is insufficient evidence proving Reckless driving! He did not even say there was a moving violation from pulling from a standing/parked ?????

Now, PA Veh Code:
Under parking/Standing/moving safely.........Entering roadways....
Title 75 Ss 3333 (the enforceable section to ticket) No person shall move a vehicle that is parked standing stopped, unless the movement can be done safely....
The general rule states 3301 a) Relates exclusively to vehicles operated on the roadways, EXCEPT where a different place is stated as in 3301 b) "Serious traffic Offenses under 3345- (over taking a school bus)3700(relating to the Serious offenses)-3800 (Under the influence)"

The lights leaving a parking lot, are courtesy, Stupid to not use it properly, but they are only enforceable on the roadway side, not enforceable for the parking lot...You could go to an exit with no light and same thing.
