My PO-RS, GF, and BCV Vacation With A Disability…

So, I started reading your report just recently ...things sound like they are going great....I checked out your AK Safari photos...I have to ask...is everybody in the witness protection program...:wave2: :wave2:

Terry S, my post below will complete another day at the Grand Floridian. Do you know what that means? Yep. I’m one more day closer to posting about the Beach Club Villas (hee hee).

Zurgswife, my guests are so drop-dead gorgeous that I had to blur their faces because they made me look like Plain Jane. (If you think I’m going to admit that they are all in the Witness Protection Program like you stated, you’ve got another thing coming. I value my life way too much, hee hee! ;) ) By the way, happy (early) birthday! I hope you have another wonderful vacation at WDW.

Several months ago, Nutz4dzny had purchased four tickets to an Epcot International Food & Wine Reserve Dinner and had asked my husband and me to be her guests. To put it mildly, I was over the moon with excitement regarding her wonderful invitation. I had never attended any Food & Wine function, let alone something as special as a reserve dinner. I had read about the special dinners on the Internet for the past year or two and thought that one day it would be fun to attend one, I just never expected to attend one so soon.

As my vacation approached, my excitement continued to grow regarding the “California’s Cool Climate Collectibles” reserve dinner that we were scheduled to attend with Nutz4dzny and her husband. My husband and I live on the West Coast and actually had toured some Northern California wineries years ago. I thought it was fitting that we were going to attend a reserve dinner that featured California wines.

For those of you who are unfamiliar with a reserve dinner, here is a description of it:

Nutz4dzny and her husband picked us up at the Grand Floridian Resort and drove us to Epcot. Our party needed to be at Guest Relations by 5:00 PM. As we approached the Guest Relations building, we saw that there was a table set up outside with a few Cast Members in attendance. Nutz4dzny gave them our names, and they told us to go inside the building and pour ourselves a cup of water while we waited for our escorts to arrive.

Once inside the air-conditioned building, we enjoyed a cup of water and relaxed. Initially there was only one other couple in the waiting room, but within five to ten minutes more guests had arrived. Soon Cast Members came into the building and began calling guests by name. They escorted those guests outside while our party remained inside. Eventually someone came for us and escorted us outside. We were led backstage where a car was waiting to take us to the dinner venue, the Wonders of Life pavilion’s VIP dining room.

We situated ourselves in the car while my husband placed my wheelchair in the trunk. As soon as everyone was ready, we were driven through the backstage area of Epcot for several minutes. I had never been backstage before so I found the car ride interesting (it was odd seeing the World Showcase countries from their backsides). Eventually we arrived at the Wonders of Life pavilion.

I would like to mention right now that the photos in my “Food And Wine Reserve Dinner (2003)” on-line photo album (click here) were all taken by Nutz4dzny. She was kind enough to allow me to post them in my photo album so that I could share them with you.

Speaking of photos, I wish I had a photo of the red carpet that was awaiting us upon our arrival at the Wonders of Life pavilion. This stretch of carpet was lined with potted trees and provided a very unique entrance to the reserve dinner. There were a few Cast Members standing there when we exited the car, and they welcomed us to the event. We moved down the carpet and into the Wonders of Life building. Once inside, we entered a circus-themed waiting room where I saw some of the guests who had left the Guest Relations building before we had. There was a small crowd of people in this waiting room and folks were chatting and generally having a nice time. We were soon offered a glass of water and told that we would be taken upstairs via elevator within the next several minutes.

After a few minutes, our group found its way to the elevator and we were taken upstairs. When the elevator doors opened on the upper-level, we found our way to a large room that had small groupings of tables set up inside of it. We seated ourselves and soon Cast Members were stopping by our table offering us wine and hors d'oeuvres. What we sampled was delicious both in food and in drink.

One of the walls in this room was lined with large picture windows that ran almost from the floor to the ceiling. These windows overlooked the inside of the Wonders of Life pavilion. Through the windows I could see below children and families enjoying themselves. They could not see me because the windows were tinted a dark color on the outside, thus impossible to view through from their direction (click here for photo).

Another side of the room was cordoned off by a red and white striped semicircular curtain that ran from floor to ceiling. I wondered what was behind that colorful curtain. Was that where we were going to dine this evening?

Cast Members continued to circulate throughout the room, offering the guests various selections of wine and hors d'oeuvres. Some of the hors d'oeuvres contained seafood so I had to be careful about what I selected. I made sure to question each Cast Member who offered me something. I did not want any accidental allergic reactions ruining this evening.

Eventually the red and white striped curtain was drawn back and revealed our dining area. It is hard to describe this area so I will point you at a picture of it instead: click here for photo. As you can see from that photo, the table where we dined was arranged in a circular pattern. There were 28 guests at the reserve dinner this evening and each guest sat on the outside of that circular, or ring-shaped, table. What you cannot see from that photo, however, is that there was a small circular table set up inside the larger table. That smaller table seated six people, and that is where the Disney Cast Member who was in charge of the reserve dinner (John Blazon) sat, as well as the representatives from the various wineries who were providing the wine for the dinner.

The table was decorated beautifully. There were lots of lit candles arranged around it. The main table cloth was a rich red color, and there were silver table runners placed vertically at every other place setting. It looked very dramatic, especially when played against the deep-blue covered chairs (click here for photo).

As to the individual place settings, they, too, were lovely. I don’t believe I’ve ever seen so many wine glasses before in my life (click here for photo).

With the curtain drawn back, the dinner guests walked over to the table. They found a place card sitting at every place setting. Eventually everyone found their assigned seat and sat down. Nutz4dzny whispered to me that she had counted 28 guests in attendance and she wanted me to confirm that number. Like her, I counted 28 guests. Neither of us had realized how limited the guest list was and we were in awe that she had been able to get four tickets to the event. She’s one lucky woman (and I’m fortunate to be her friend).

John Blazon from Epcot’s Food and Beverage Services welcomed everyone to the reserve dinner. He then went on to introduce the guests of honor who were seated at the small circular table with him. Amongst others, those guests included representatives from the Acacia, Chalk Hill, and MacMurray Ranch wineries.

After the introductions, dinner began. Here is the menu for the reserve dinner that we attended:

As each course was served, a new wine was poured. The representative from the appropriate winery would stand up and describe a little bit about both the history of the winery and also about the wine that we were tasting. I must say that each of the representatives did a lovely job with their presentations. We were always thoroughly entertained by them. Some stories were light-hearted and other stories were a little more serious, but all stories were entertaining and I learned a little something from each of the speakers.

As the evening wore on, the food and wine flowed and it got to the point that I was becoming quite full. I eventually decided to pace myself and not feel guilty if I could not finish an entrée. If I stuck to my guns, this would mean that I would be able to at least taste every course that was served and sip every wine that was offered. It was tough, I must admit, but it was the only way that I would be able to enjoy a little bit of everything (too bad I hadn’t thought to do this when the evening first began).

I found each course more wonderful than the last. And after each course was served, the appropriate chef would appear before us to give a little speech about why he/she chose to serve what they did. It was obvious to me that between the chefs and the sommeliers, everything about tonight’s meal had been hand-selected. I felt fortunate to have been given the opportunity to attend the reserve dinner thanks to Nutz4dzny.

Soon it was time for dessert. We did not have one dessert this evening but two. Each one was delicious and it drove me crazy that I could not finish either. It seemed such a sin to not finish at least one of the desserts, but I took comfort in the fact that at least I got to savor a little bit of each. That knowledge helped me feel a little better as the reserve dinner came to an end.

Our host gave some closing remarks, and we were then told that if we wanted to watch Illuminations, there was a Cast Member near the elevator who would escort us to a private viewing location. Almost everyone decided to attend the Illuminations show. It was the perfect way to end the perfect meal.

When we finally made our way outside of the Wonders of Life pavilion, we found a warm evening awaiting us. My husband took off his dinner jacket and pushed my wheelchair as we followed the Cast Member to the Illuminations viewing area. I must say that the reserve dinner guests sure stood out like sore thumbs amongst the t-shirt and shorts crowd of theme park-goers (for the reserve dinner, all guests had to be appropriately dressed in nice evening attire – jackets and ties for the men, and dresses or pantsuits for the women).

After a several minute walk, we arrived at the private viewing area. This area was roped off and thus off-limits to the general public. It provided an excellent view of the Illuminations show. The show began shortly after we arrived and it was wonderful, as always. When it was over, we followed the Cast Member to a backstage area where vehicles were waiting to take us back to the Guest Relations building at the front of the theme park. We boarded our vehicle and soon we were back where the evening had begun.

We made our way to Nutz4dzny’s rental vehicle, and they drove my husband and me back to the Grand Floridian Resort. It was amazing how quickly the evening had passed. All of us truly had a once-in-a-lifetime dinner experience this evening. My husband and I thanked Nutz4dzny and her husband for the incredible evening. We finished our goodbyes and they headed off to the Animal Kingdom Lodge, and we headed inside the Grand Floridian Resort.

My parents were in our resort room with my daughter. They asked how our dinner had gone and we told them. Then we asked how their evening had gone and they told us. From what they said, my daughter had spent hours going down the swimming pool’s waterslide. My Dad could not believe the energy that she had; he said she was like the Energizer Bunny. We soon exchanged goodnight kisses and my parents left our room. It had been another action-packed day in Walt Disney World.

Once again it sounds like you had a wonderful experience. You and Nutz4dzny both sound lucky to have found each other to share these wonderful experiences with.

Janet, you did a great job of remembering details, but there are a few things I wanted to mention/correct. I have the advantage of traveling for 15 years with someone in a wheelchair, so I've experienced all the stuff more than once. I am truely amazed at how much detail you pack into each post (I picture you sitting with a tape recorder adding little comments to your file all the time).
To get out of the Haunted Mansion, you normally take the moving sidewalk-type of ramp to the upper level, but with a wheelchair, that was impossible. The Cast Member pointed out where the elevator was and that was how my family got upstairs and out of the Haunted Mansion.
This is an accurate description of how you get out at Pirates. (I'm not surprised that you remembered it somewhere else, since you hurt your leg at Pirates). Anyway, for Pirates, you actually get on at close to ground level (there are some slight non-moving ramps during the queue). During the ride, you end up one floor below ground level. There is a moving ramp that goes upstairs from the exit or you can take an elevator if it's not possible to use the moving ramp.
For Haunted Mansion, you board and exit at the exit, which is at ground level, so there is no need for a moving ramp or elevator.
If I would have been thinking, I would have transferred myself to a bus seat and collapsed my wheelchair for the ride, but due to the lateness of the night, this thought never crossed my mind until after the bus had pulled away from the curb.
We've beeen told by bus drivers that all wheelchairs will be strapped in and secured anyway, so they probably would not have let you fold the wheelchair.

Tammydel, I can add a little more about boarding HM and Pirates.
For HM, they can stop or just slow the moving walkway (let them know if you need it to be stopped). When we board, we usually bring DD's wheelchair close to the ride car on the walkway. DH lifts her out and places her in the ride car. The CMs takes care of moving the wheelchair out of the way. Someone who is able to walk a bit, could park the wheelchair just outside of the walkway area and walk to/from the doom buggy. The handicapped car doesn't look any different than the regular HM cars; we've been told the doors open a little wider though. Anyway, it is a small step up, maybe 6 to 8 inches, similar to getting into a car. You board and exit at the exit (you do miss the stretching room and everything before the doom buggies).

Pirates (as Janet mentioned) is more of a challange. If you have folding wheelchair, you can use it during the wait in line. After getting on the ride, the CM will put the wheelchair on your boat behind you. The ride vehicle is a boat where you need to make 2 steps down. The first step is about 8 to 12 inches to the seat of the boat. Then you need to make another step down (about 12 inches) to get your feet into the foot area and your seat at the boat seat. The only handholds on the boat are behind each seat, not really much help in getting in and the rails on "shore" that Janet mentioned are basically to keep the passengers separated, not to help much with getting on. Here's a picture of the Pirates boat from Deb Will's site.
Deb Will's site has some pretty good pictures of the different ride cars that should help you in planning how to get on. The Guidebooks for Guest with Disabilities that Janet mentioned have information about which rides have wheelchair cars. The descriptions are somewhat helpful - especially if you have a picture so you can get a clearer idea.

Janet & Sue,

Thank you both so much for the info. Sounds like HM will be fine, but sadly I think we will have to skip PotC with gram. I wouldn't want to spoil things with her getting hurt.

Janet, your reports are wonderful. I plan on saving them and using them as reference when planning special events!!!!

You have sparked my interest in GF and I still can't wait to here about BCV.

Thanks again,
Tammy

SueM in MN, thanks to your eagle-eyes, I just made a correction in my post at the top of this page. You are correct – at the Haunted Mansion, I rolled myself right out of the building, while at Pirates, I took an elevator upstairs.

(I am wondering if the Haunted Mansion at Disneyland has a moving sidewalk because for some reason I seem to remember being on one as I heard the Ghost Hostess beckon, “Hurry back… Hurry back…Be sure to bring your death certificate, if you decide to join us…” Then again, I am getting more forgetful as I age – too much stuff is cluttering up my memory banks. ;))

Sue, if I would have known I was going to write up my trip report, I would have done as you suggested (what an excellent suggestion). Since I never intended to write up much of anything, I have to rely on my photos to jog my memory. For the most part, I took a couple photos each day, so it is fairly easy to view them and remember what we did (thank God for time-stamping!). There were a few days, however, when I didn't take any photos. Those days are tougher to remember (my memory isn't what it used to be). And there are those memories that I won't need a photograph to jog anything with -- those memories are etched into my mind for all of eternity. Like the kindness of certain Cast Members at both the Grand Floridian and the Animal Kingdom Lodge. Like the words that someone spoke to my daughter at the pool one day as he described me to her. Like the look on my parents' faces when they saw me in my wheelchair for the first time (a look of relief when they realized that even though I was immobile, no one could stop me from doing what I wanted to do). Like the wonderful times I spent with Nutz4dzny's, WeFullTime's, Minybear's, and Bonzie1's families. I could go on and on, but I think you catch my drift -- we all have incredible memories of vacationing in Walt Disney World.

Wow, what a report! I can't believe I just found it today--where have I been!? I love the details, and all the special events you've put together. What magical memories you all must have!
btw, I remember staying at AKL the Christmas before last. Your "favorite cast member" (if I'm recalling that someone correctly) was thrilled because you had just stayed there shortly before. He went on and on about meeting up with you! ::yes::

I think you figured it out. I haven't been to DL since I was a little girl, but I remember reading recently that the "shrinking room" at the HM in DL takes you down because you need to go below the train tracks. So, it only makes sense that to get out of the DL HM, you would need to go back up.

Janet,
I have decided that since you had so much fun on this trip, I am going to go the same time you do next trip and just follow you around! LOL

Sign me up, too.

Janet,

You should start a travel tour company. :D

You guys are too funny! Thanks for the kind words!

I went back to work this week. Yahoo! Of course, my leg is swollen like you wouldn't believe, so it hasn't been easy. But it certainly feels good to be back with my coworkers again. This evening a whole bunch of 'em took me out for dinner. Since I work in the high-tech field, being female certainly has its advantages sometimes -- I was the only female at a table of no less than eight guys. Oh, yeah, it feels good to be back with my buddies again. But that means that I’ll primarily only have weekends to work on my trip report. I promise to do as much as I can as soon as I can.

Hey, count me in too!

When is your next vacation Janet? ;)

Pixiechick, my but you have a great memory. Don at the AKL is my favorite Disney Cast Member. I love it when he tells people that he and I “go way back” (to just before the AKL opened, that is!). He has never been anything but decent and kind to my family. I was so happy that we had the opportunity to visit with him during our vacation. He’s such a doll.

Helenk, Floridafam, and Terry S., you think my vacation has been fun so far? Just wait until you read about Day 11 (which I’ll probably title “Beach Club Villas Day Three”). You ain’t seen nothin’ yet… ;)

I thought I should mention that several days ago Yahoo changed their photo storage system. Due to their changes, most of my photos appear to have been lost. I am hopeful that Yahoo will be able to fix their problems and get all of my photos back for me. I thought I should mention this in case some of you are clicking on my photo links and are seeing error messages instead. Once Yahoo fixes their issues, I will go back and update all the photo links in this thread. In the meantime, I am adding new photo albums to my Yahoo account as I continue posting in this thread. Hopefully, those new photo links will work.

As I answered my morning wake-up call from Mickey Mouse, I wondered where the time had gone. I couldn’t believe that we were already one week into our vacation. It seemed like only yesterday that I was packing my suitcase in preparation for our vacation to begin. I guess the old adage is true: “Time flies when you’re having fun.” And my family surely was having more fun than we ever imagined we would have.

I hung up the phone and raced my daughter to the shower. Since her little feet were quicker than my wheelchair, she won so I had to let her go first.

Once my family was showered and dressed, we made our way to the concierge lounge. My daughter enjoyed a bowl of cereal while I enjoyed several slices of cinnamon raisin toast (for some odd reason I craved toast that morning). Once we were done munching, we headed outside to the pool. I wanted to spend a lot of time at the pool today since it was our last full day at the Grand Floridian Resort.

I don’t have to tell you that it was another glorious Florida day (click here). Painted above the Grand Floridian Resort was the usual brilliant blue sky (click here) with white fluffy clouds scattered here and there. As I swam in the pool, I constantly found myself staring up at the sky. I was trying to etch that view into my mind – I wanted to take it home with me, ~sigh.~

My Mom spent the day reading underneath the umbrella (click here) while my Dad split his time between reading and swimming. My daughter, my husband, and I pretty much spent the whole time in the pool (click here). I think the only time we came out of the pool was to eat lunch (soup, chili, sandwiches, and pizza from Gasparilla Grill).

Before I knew it, the entire day had passed us by. My parents bid us goodbye because they knew that my daughter would soon be attending the Grand Floridian’s Haunted Pirates Cruise. As always, my daughter gave them both kisses and bear hugs (she's a great bear-hugger).

My daughter, husband, and I headed back inside the Grand Floridian. As we went through the concierge lounge, my daughter took some photos of the afternoon’s offerings (I've included her photos below -- I'm sorry that some of them are blurry).

The snack offerings were varied and included a nice selection of cheeses (click here), crudités (or what my family prefers to call “veggies & dip” - click here), freshly made salsa (click here), and crackers (click here and click here). For those guests who craved something lighter and healthier, they had to look no further than the lounge (click here).

Once again the Grand Floridian had not forgotten their littlest guests – the children. Their special buffet table was filled with all sorts of goodies. Some of the goodies included peanut butter and jelly sandwiches (click here), cupcakes (click here), and fudge brownies (click here).

The afternoon drink selection included both soft and hard drinks. The “soft” drinks included various teas and coffees. It also included iced tea and two flavors of lemonade – regular and “pink” (click here). The “hard” drinks included a nice selection of wines (click here).

I thought I would also post a couple photos of the concierge lounge for those of you who haven’t had the opportunity to visit it yet:

Since my family had eaten lunch outside by the swimming pool only a few hours prior, we only grabbed something cold to drink. With our drinks in hand (in disposable cups), we headed back to our room in order to prepare for the evening’s activities.

Earlier in the day, I had telephoned the concierge and had signed up my daughter for this evening’s Haunted Pirates Cruise. We had stayed at the Grand Floridian Resort before on Halloween night and had read about the cruise in the resort newsletter, and yet we had never signed up our daughter for it. Why? The only reason I can think of is that we had tickets for Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party. Well, we had tickets for the party for this evening, too, but this time I decided that the party could wait until my daughter had returned from the Haunted Pirates Cruise. The cruise sounded like fun and I didn’t want her to miss it. (I should note that the cruise might only be for guests of the Grand Floridian Resort – it was noted in the newsletter that it was not listed in the Disney Dining Reservation System.)

After a long day at the pool, my daughter was ready for some different kind of fun. She put on her Halloween costume and we headed downstairs to the Grand Floridian’s marina. When we got to the marina, we saw that most of the children were dressed in their Halloween costumes too; everyone looked great and ready for action.

I will let my daughter describe the Haunted Pirates Cruise for you. What follows are her words:

- - - - - - -

When we arrived at the Grand Floridian’s marina for the Haunted Pirates Cruise, the parents signed the children in while the children put on their life vests. Then we got some instructions from a Cast Member on how to act during the cruise (click here).

Then these two pirates kidnapped Cast Member Carrie from the marina. The pirates were wearing black eye patches, red bandanas, fake swords, fake guns, puffy shirts, baggy pants, and black knee boots. They kidnapped Carrie because she knew where the treasure was. They put her on the Shore Patrol boat and they quickly left the marina (click here).

Cast Members Susan, Bobbie, and Cory said, “Oh, you rascal pirates! We have to get the treasure tonight otherwise if we can’t, we’ll have to stay up until midnight and try to figure out where the treasure is!” (click here).

The children boarded (click here) the same boat that is used for the regular Pirate’s Cruise. Our boat had the pirate flag on the back of it (click here). Bobbi was our driver and our boat left the marina and headed out onto Seven Seas Lagoon (click here).

Cory said, “You guys have to look for a red light because Carrie is on that boat and if we get her back, she can tell us where the treasure is. That way those greedy pirates won’t get the treasure!” On the lagoon, we sailed around and looked for a red light.

The kids saw the red-flashing light of the Shore Patrol boat. We sailed over to it and saw Carrie. One pirate had a fake knife at her neck and another pirate had a hanging rope in his hand because he was going to hang Carrie off the boat if she didn’t tell him where the treasure chest was. Then the pirate boat raced away.

As they were racing away, we all yelled, “We want Carrie! We want Carrie! We want Carrie!” The pirates yelled, “Only if you find the treasure for us!” And I said, “Never! I’ll chop off your neck if we tell you! And you’ll never get the treasure!” And the pirates yelled, “You greedy kid! Next time we’re gonna get you and chop off your neck for real!” I was like, “You’re lying! Little silly pirates can’t trick me!” And quietly they said, “Shoot! She got us!”

The pirates raced away and we were slowly turning our boat around because it is so long. It took us a little while to turn around. Susan said, “Can you guys make this thing any quicker?” And Cory began singing, “Yo, ho! Yo, ho! A pirate’s life for me!” He sang the whole song, and then he said, “I want Carrie back.”

Our boat started moving a little bit quicker and again the kids spotted a red light. We all yelled, “There it is! There it is!” Bobbi said, “I’m going as fast as I can.” Then Susan said, “Well, if this is the fastest you can go, you might as well go faster.” Our boat turned around slowly and finally we began moving straight ahead. We began following the flashing red light. Suddenly, the pirates turned their light off. We were in the middle of the lagoon and it was dark. Then we lost track of the pirate boat and we couldn’t see it at all.

Bobbi said, “I have a smart idea. The way to track the boat down is to look for waves, big waves, that come from the Shore Patrol boat.” Luckily, with the kids’ sharp eyes, we finally spotted the pirate boat – we tracked it by seeing its waves and its red light.

The pirates stopped their boat next to our boat. I said, “You greedy pirates! I’m gonna chop off your necks!” The pirates said, “You greedy kids! You’re no good!” I said, “Little pirates can’t fool me.” They said, “Gosh, she got us again.”

Carrie cried, “Help, you guys! Help!” And we were yelling, “We’re doing the best that we can!” And then the pirates drove away.

The pirates were going the wrong way because we spotted the treasure chest in the other direction from them. The chest was near the Contemporary, near a flashing red light but we were far away from it.

The pirates drove over next to us again. They said to Carrie, “We’re going to throw you overboard for real if you don’t tell us where the treasure is!” And she told them where it really was and we couldn’t believe that she did that!

The pirates drove their boat towards the treasure chest but it looked like to us that they drove way past the treasure chest.

Our boat was slowly moving towards the treasure chest and we saw a Shore Patrol boat parked there that had swords and guns on it, but we didn’t think this was the pirate boat that had Carrie on it because we didn’t see Carrie or the pirates.

When we got near the treasure chest, Cory reached over to grab it and all of a sudden the pirates popped up! Cory took the treasure chest and hid it on our boat.

The pirates quickly put their swords and guns on and then they got on our boat. The kids started beating them up and grabbed the pirates’ swords and guns. One of the pirates said, “I swear if you guys don’t stop it, I’m gonna chop off all of our necks!” The kids yelled, “We’re not gonna stop! And how are you supposed to chop off our necks if we have your swords and guns?”

The pirates were forced to leave our boat and go back to their own boat. Then they raced away. Carrie was still on the pirate boat but we had the treasure chest on our boat. We headed our boat back towards the Grand Floridian.

We met the pirates once again out on the lagoon. They said, “If you give us the treasure chest, we’ll give you Carrie.” Cory said, “Okay!”

Susan and Bobbi and the kids yelled stuff at the pirates to distract them. They yelled stuff like, “You’re bad pirates!” Cory sneaked and got all the treasure out of the treasure chest. He hid the treasure in a special place on our boat.

Bobbi and Susan said to Cory loudly so the pirates could hear them, “You can’t give that treasure to the pirates!” The pirates said, “How about if you just let us hold it?” All the kids agreed with that. So the pirates gave us Carrie and we gave them (and they didn’t know it) an empty treasure chest. Once the pirates got the treasure chest they said, “Ha ha! You don’t have any treasure!” and they drove away.

Carrie sat down on our boat and we headed back to the Grand Floridian. Once we got to the marina, as we left the boat, we got our own bags of treasure (click here). We never saw the pirates again.

I had fun on the Haunted Pirates Cruise and want to do it again next Halloween (click here)!

Boy, aren’t you all glad that the kids saved Cast Member Carrie? It would have been a pretty lousy Halloween for her if she would have had to swim back to the Grand Floridian Resort in order to escape the pirates. I hear that Seven Seas Lagoon can be pretty treacherous at night. Legend has it that there is a crocodile who swims in those waters under the pale moonlight, and his belly makes a loud ticking noise...

Oh you do know how to tease, don't you Janet? Can't wait to hear more (especially day 11).

Tell your daughter thank you once again for the wonderful description of the Halloween Pirate Cruise, sounds like it was really fun!
