Nope, I've never ran anything more then 7 or 8 miles.. And that was many MANY moons ago :) But I tend to get these weird ideas stuck in my head, and almost always pull them out.. So I have that going for me.

I know that's over 1 1/2 years away (actually probably real close to that :) ) But I know there is no way a) i could afford the 2013, and b) I really want to do the goofy.. I'm sure I'll have other events in there, plus of course the training. :)

I've been wanting to do a marathon as a 'bucket list' thing.. And the more I look into the Disney ones, just like everything else Disney, looks like they put on a heck of an event.

So.. I actually did go buy my first pair of 'real' running shoes earlier this week, went somewhere that they actually watch how you walk / run then suggest some shoes for you.. So now I have shoes that actually support me and will hopefully last more then 2 months as opposed to the $20 walmart specials :)

Now just to look into other 'stuff' I need to buy / should buy to give myself the best chance for success.. So I briefly looked, but does anyone know if there is an 'official' 2014 marathon thread started?!?! :) (I'm sure I'll find it as soon I post this).. So.. now just to get started and keep on truckin! errr.. runnin!!!

Good luck! I am registered for Goofy in 2013 and will be a new marathoner, with only 5 halves under my belt. As a prior runner, you have a clue what you are getting into. Enjoy the process!

Well we started our 'training' today.. granted it was only a walk, but I was proud of my wife to get out there and walk 2.5 miles.. I am running a 5k this Saturday.. The dash for donation here in Columbus. It's a race to raise money and bring attention to organ donation. So anyone in Columbus area, head down saturday AM around nationwide arena and join the fun..:goodvibes

anyone think it would be possible to run a 1/2 marathon with only 3 months training???? :) :goodvibes

A typical 1/2 marathon training schedule is 12 weeks, so yes you can do it, provided that you are able to run about 3 miles already.

You can do it!! just one step at a time ...

Check out my blog, (which i started a few months ago), is dedicated to the same goal as yours: the 2014 Goofy!! --> Couch to Goofy Challenge!

of course, I have been sidelined a bit because of a running injury ... but my goal is the same and I will see you at the finish line at the 2014 Goofy Marathon and Half Challenge!
:cool1:

Yes, 3 months is plenty for a half marathon assuming you're not injury prone and can run 3 miles already.

Good luck! I have a similar goal, but mine is to run the Princess Half in 2014, and the full WDW one in 2015. I would make it Princess in 2013, and the full in 2014, but like you, I wouldn't be able to afford it that soon, and it makes sense for me to do the Princess first since it is the shorter one, and then I can get both marathons in with one AP.

Good luck with your training! You're right that the Disney marathon is a heck of an event...a really great choice for your first marathon! :goodvibes

Congrats! What a goal!! I can relate about getting your mind set on something and just doing it ;)
Sometime next year, once you're further along in your training, one of Hal Higdon's plans would be good for you. I did the Goofy in 2010 and followed his "intermediate" marathon training plan. 3 times during the later stages of the training he actually scheduled a 10 mile run followed by a 20+mile run the following day, which actually mimics the Goofy pretty well! I have always used his plans when doing marathons and as of yet (*knock on wood*) have run injury free. I felt really well prepared for the Goofy by following this particular program (just internet search Hal Higdon Intermediate half marathon program) and had a BLAST doing it!!
Good luck to you!!

Have the dates for 2014 marathon weekend been announced yet?

Wow, cant believe I missed this reply! That's exactly what I am planning on doing.. Right now I am focusing more on normal fitness / weight training, getting some of the pounds off. Then next spring focus on the goofy with the running / walking part.. Again thanks for the suggestion!

No, lol but I know I'll be signing up as soon as they open it lol.. Once I'm invested in something, I tend to REALLY make sure to follow thru.

Good for you! That time will be here in no time. I did the half last January and signed up for the Goofey as soon as it was open to register...here it almost Sept already!

I know what you mean about $$. They are pricey but now you can plan for that Disney 2014 and turn it into a holiday also. Hey, I even thought of camping in their campground!

Meanwhile you can do other races to prep your body!

I have to admit though, lately I have had zero motivation. I've got to get out of this funk I'm in. I really dont know what's gotten into me (or out of me). Many things have turned around and are more positive in our life so if anything I should be more motivated, but there is just something that I cant seem to snap out of.. I need someone to get on my case and push me I think. I know what I need to do, I know how I feel when exercising, I know how I look when I lost some weight, I just dont get why I'm having these issues right now.. Thanks for letting me vent and have a pity party this AM.. I need to find like a coach or personal trainer or something. someone like that chris powell dude from extreme weight loss...

If you are still in the Columbus area, Columbus Running Company and Fleet Feet have great running groups, and have runs and groups for many different pace groups. We know a lot of people that run with them and love it. Even some of my friends who aren't majorly outgoing really enjoy the groups. It may give you some motivation and the accountability we all need. :goodvibes
There is also a group called Marathoners in Training but I'm pretty sure they charge for their program.
DH is doing the Goofy this upcoming year (2013) so I know how much training goes into it. Keep going! Don't give into not training for your goal! The Disney runs are amazing and I promise you that you will feel all the hard work is worth it!

Sign up for a race! That's what motivates me. Goofy in 2014 is your ultimate goal, but in the mean time work your way from a 5K to a 10K to a half to a full. That's what worked for me...knowing I've plunked my money down and need to be at the starting line is motivation enough for me to get out there and RUN!

I agree with the last poster.....sign up for a race and get motivated. You will really get excited at each new diistance you can conquer. Running can become addictive. ;)

I'm training for the Princess half in 2014. Never been a runner because I always end up knee issues (the physical therapist said I have a floating patella). But, this time I am motivated by the thought of being able to run/walk a 1/2 marathon.

But, it is true that people run/walk a marathon :confused3? Right now I am training using the runkeeper app at a 4 min walk 2 min run pace, 2x a week for 35 minutes and one day a long run. I went my farthest distance and longest time ever at 4.41 miles in 1 hour. But do people really walk? Just really self conscious listening to how every runs, but never run/walk.
