My Name Is NOT Broccoli!

Hey MeMom and gang! Checking in from NE Arkansas to let everyone know that we are yet again having a big snow. This one is by far the worst one we have had. School buses getting stuck, big trucks turning over and everyone having a very hard time on the road. We are just not prepared for this kind of weather. I am very worried about my daughter Sarah getting to work tonight. She is a RN in labor and delivery in a town over from us. Babies don't wait! lol
Please pray for her safe travel.

On a brighter note.....MeMom, Jill and those 2 cuties of yours don't have long before you'll be seeing Mickey, sunshine and your Trent's wonderful smile. I am very excited for you. And for all the rest of you that will be heading to the World soon.:thumbsup2

Hi MeMom, Jill and everyone else!:goodvibes

I don't know how I keep managing to get so far behind on everyone's TRs but I just wanted to say hello! :yay: I still have about another 40 pages to catch up on in this thread and I just finished the summer TR a couple of days ago! I love seeing all of your pictures and I can't believe how much those girls are growing!

Also, I'm hoping you can count me in for the end of September for a meet! I think I'll be heading down from Sept. 22 to October 1 or 2 if I can! Those dates may change because of work but I'm hoping to get there!

Going back now to read some more!

The Boardwalk is such a nice place to go for the end of the trip, especially after a long, fun day in Epcot.:thumbsup2

I also hope to stay at the boardwalk someday.

I have not been able to fully enjoy the Disney anticipation either, but that's because of our ski trip that starts tomorrow. Right now, I have 2 suitcases, a duffel-type bag, a backpack, a diaper bag, and a pack and play. Somehow, I need to condense all that into a backpack, a carry-on, and a suitcase!

On Monday, when we return from skiing, my Disney excitement will be at 100%!

I hope that this day of school goes quickly for you and that you get there and back safely. It's so nice to have an escape like Disney when real life stuff gets heavy.

I guess if we are going to have all this snow, you might as well go play in it!

I will very much appreciate my escape when it gets here in just a couple of weeks. :thumbsup2

What a perfect way to spend your last night, hanging out with family and having a wonderful time.

Sorry to hear about the rough week. You are so very right about changing things at home for the children to reflect better scores at school. Yet, it all lands on YOUR shoulders. You are doing an excellent job, and I promise, you are making a HUGE impact on at least a few of your student's lives. I remember every single teacher I had from PreK - 6th Grade. A few were more in the "I give up" phase, but a few were outstanding - and they changed my life for the better! So, on behalf of them-thank you for all you do!!!! I hope today is a good one and puts a smile on your face!

Today, when I picked up my kids from Music, the teacher met me at the door with two that had been fighting, and she was taking them to the office. I stayed outside her door with my class, because the new class had already been left by the teacher. As I was walking in the door to check on them, one was screaming because another boy had punched him. So, I met the Music teacher at the door with the two of them, and she took them to the office. It's ridiculous. The good kids and the quiet kids get lost in the madness, unfortunately. We keep plugging along, though.

Hi MeMom!! Hope your day gets better and that the week improves!! I've heard my mom speak those words about home life and how the state keeps threatening to take over the school district many times...and they have yet to take them over, even though there is a $20 something deficit and the teachers are hoping to get paid from week to week. You teachers are underpaid, overworked and underappreciated...but hopefully one day that will all change!!!
Just keep that upcoming trip in your mind and it will make everything better!!!

It just seems like the education system has fallen apart and getting ever worse. I wish we could find a reasonable solution for everyone.

Boy do I remember those feelings you just described of heading to school. I felt exactly the same way some days. It was that same feeling you have before a doctor visit where you know they are going to do something to you that you really don't want to happen. I had those days often. It really is sad that teachers feel that way. Teaching should be such a rewarding career and I think it used to be, but things have changed so much. I wish you could find a new career, Memom! There has to be something out there better for you that you could do. You are probably like most teachers though and don't want to give up what you've earned toward retirement and that is understandable. How much longer do you have? Saying a prayer for you that it will be a quick and uneventful day!

On a brighter note... the Boardwalk looks wonderful. I have never been over there even though I have wanted to on each trip. I WILL make it next time. I'd love to stay at the BW too, but I REALLY want to stay at the Beach Club! I would love to stay there just one night on our next trip. That whole area is so beautiful though, especially at night!

I have a long way to go before retirement. I got a late start. Possibly what I can do is take an early out at 20 years and move into a little MIL apartment with Jill. I can get another job that hopefully will be a better situation. I can sell my house and invest that money in something that will make more. I don't know really. We'll see what the future holds.

Wouldn't it be nice to just walk outside in the evening and be right there on the Boardwalk? :)

Me too! We're supposed to get another 10" tonight and tomorrow with high winds and very cold temps until Friday afternoon. Of course that means the kids will probably be out of school the rest of this week too. Which will put us at 8 snow days that we'll have to make up

I share Jill's dream of staying at the Boardwalk, hopefully someday we'll get to!

Looks like you had a lovely evening just hanging out with those you love

It really surprises me how few parents actually take an active roll in their children's education. I feel for teachers too with all the pressure put on them for their students to hit some magical number on a standardized test. It seems as though teaching has become more and more focused on just what they will be tested on and to me that's sad.

You totally got it.

We have never had so many snow days here!

"Very Big Small World Meet" - I love it Looking forward to meeting you and all the other Disers I haven't met.

Jill and I were talking about how cute it will be to get all the kids together.

Am I totally nuts for not planning on seeing Fantasmic??? None of us have seen it, but Abby scares pretty easily so just not sure.

We had a great time at Garden Grill when Abby was 2! One of our favorites. The picture in my Avatar was from it. Chip spent about 10 min's with Abby looking at the ride and letting Abby tell him all about it. There was practically no one there that day

Maybe she'll see it with Brooklynn on Sunday night?

I have read good things about character interaction at Garden Grill.

Your broadwalk pictures are lovley. I think were going to try the hot dog stand out when we stay at the beach club r last night.

I don't eat hot dogs at home, but in Disney World, it's just a different experience. :)

Love, Love, Love all your TR!

Those are two very precious little girls. They are beautiful!

So very glad to have you. Chime in any time!

Creighton was one of the names I had in the pot for Jill to name #2, if it was a boy. Bella is a much better name for the little girl rascal we ended up with, though. :goodvibes

Hurry up, Friday! I hope you are having a good day and that this LOOOOOONG week goes by fast.

It could help a great deal that we will most likely have a snow day tomorrow.

I'm glad you, Jill and the girlies got to enjoy some downtime with Trent before you had to say goodbye. Just think, you're going to be seeing him again SOON!! That for sure will put a smile on your face.

Did your day get better? I sure hope so! Mine started off very yucky too. It felt more like a Monday to me. Blah. Hurry up Friday!

Yes, and I am ready. Seeing his pictures on our TR and in Wigd's makes me miss him even more.

It was nice to get out two hours early. It was just starting to snow when I was not quite halfway home. Mondays are my least favorite day of the week. ;)

Nope I can't believe it. I handed in the final draft of my senior project paper last week, I'm almost done with the field work, my college applications are in...But I'm very happy because I got my report card yesterday. It was the best one I've gotten since 6th grade. I got all A's and B's There's always that one C, usually in math. Not this time!

Me too! Every time! Maybe because the last couple weeks before vacations are always crazy. I won't even be able to relax when vacation starts next Friday. The whole weekend my mom and I will be running around getting everything done that we haven't had time to get done before the trip, Monday I'm finishing up my senior project field work and then I have plans with my dad. I'm staying at his house overnight, and I have no idea when I'm getting home Tuesday, so I need to get my packing done over the weekend so I'm ready to leave on Wednesday morning And I'll be stressed until we're actually in the air because I'm so worried about the snow. I'll finally relax when we're in the air

Hooray for all A's and B's!!! :dance3:

Is your day over yet, MeMom? I only have two and a half hours left.

Just remember that you are not alone -- so many of us feel just the way you do about the state's threats.

Dinner on the Boardwalk would be so wonderful right now! Oh my! I can't even begin to tell you just how magical that sounds to me.

I am in for the night. Nashville roads are really bad, according to FB friends.

I really can't imagine the State truly wanting to take over and show people that they couldn't change things either, because that is what would happen.

The end of a MeMom and Jill TR must mean another trip is right around the corner Sounds like you had a nice relaxing last evening with your kids

Oh I hate those meetings! We got placed on the state's persistently low achieving list this year and have to come up with our "plan". If the state knows the secret...bring it on!! Like you said...way too much is out of our control!

You took the thoughts right outta my head!

The last night was fun. All too short, though.

 for the rough road all of you teachers have each day!

 for missing Trent!
You will see him soon!

I've never seen the Boardwalk either...it looks so pretty at night.

Hope you can get safely to work and home. It is just crazy how bad your weather has been this year.

The sad thing is, most teachers reall used to enjoy their jobs. There was fun and creativity, and the testing was just for the parents' knowledge of where their children were. It was a direct indication of (supposedly) the teacher's abilities. We have lost great teachers from our school to retirement because they could not stand the pressure, testing, and paperwork any more. A lot of kids missed out on having incredible teachers. :sad2:

The weatherman is saying the snow seems to be tapering off. :thumbsup2

All caught up. Thanks for bringing pictures of Food & Wine goodies! I'm not usually a very adventurous eater so I like to be able to use F&W to try some things I might not order in a restaurant for much less. Can't say I'd try the escargot, however.

What a lovely last evening on the Boardwalk. I've walked the Boardwalk many times but somehow I didn't know there was fast food fare available other than the bakery and popcorn/other snacks. I'll have to keep that in mind. Such a great atmosphere over there!!

Enjoy your early dismissal!

No little slimy snails for me either. Yuck.

Yeah, there's a hot dog stand. Look in Brook's pictures, because she just put it up in her TR.

My goodness! More bad weather??? Here it has been nice, but it's chilly again for the rest of the week, and very windy. This weekend is should warm up some again though.

Glad you get a two hour break and a possible snow day.

We're supposed to be up to 52 by Sunday! :cool1:

Stay safe, MeMom! I hope you get that snow day tomorrow. You're so close with your trip!! The date is on the horizon & closing in fast.

We leave in 10 days & I feel like I have lots to do before we head out.

Have a great day!

I will get on that trip stuff starting sometime this weekend. I have new luggage to show off this time, thanks to Jill! :goodvibes

I'm glad you are getting out early today. I hope to leave work around lunch time myself. I know how much Brooklynn loves her Uncle Bubby and it looks like she really likes Tanya as well. I know you are all ready to see Trent again. It won't be long now!

I hope you got home safely. We did the right thing by getting out early, because buses still had to pick up middle schoolers, and the snow was starting.

Tanya said she'd like to be back up here making snow angels with the girls.

Two weeks from Saturday! :woohoo:

Hooray for a snow day! We definitely got enough of that last week to last us awhile! Just adding to your excitement of being so close to leaving!

I loved your Boardwalk pics. Your family always looks like they're having a great time, no matter what you're at. I definitely have to say I miss you, Jill, and the girls!!

I may kiss the ground when I land at MCO!

We have wonderful times together.

The bus situation was a mess the other night when several of them went off the road.

I hope your Sarah has safe travel both ways. Sloan put up a video as he was driving out of Nashville, but he hadn't gotten to the worst part, as of then. The news people are saying it is taking people about three hours to make a normally 30-40 minute commute.

Hi MeMom, Jill and everyone else!

The Boardwalk is such a nice place to go for the end of the trip, especially after a long, fun day in Epcot.

Yes, so many places for morning walks, too! I want to stay in a Boardwalk resort for that reason, along with many others. Imagine the awesome morning walks I could enjoy!

I hope you're getting your snow day!

They haven't officially called it yet, but if we don't get one, I'll be way past surprised!

********************************************

From the Boardwalk we went to DTD to get to SSR. We decided to just go ahead and do our last minute shopping that night instead of going back the last day.

We had a beautiful stroll over to SSR just talking and enjoying the night.

Thanks MeMom! Sarah did make it to work. If she has to she can stay at the hospital tomorrow. We have almost 7 in. of snow so far, but the problem is the snow melts as people drive on it and freezes right back over. And we live in a pretty rural area....lots of hills and curves. lol

I loved the pics of all the soaps. When we were there in Oct. I knew my DIL would love that store and she DID! Can't wait to go back soon.

Look at that sleeping girl! If I'm remembering right someone had to carry Bella and got tired arms...

It is such a nice stroll back from DTD though!:goodvibes

It is taking people three hours to go from Nashville to any outlying place that is usually a 30-40 minute commute. It's just a huge mess. Jarvis texted me that he left work at three, and I know he is glad he did!

Thanks to you and Mr. Marc, we got to take that peaceful walk. Thank you, again. :)
It was so very nice to walk to the room in the quiet of the night just enjoying conversation with my sweet daughter.

My drive home tonight was very snowy too.... I wish I could hop on a plane and go to sunny WDW. :)

Lexi is hoping for a snow day tomorrow.....probably not going to happen for her.
Hope you get yours! :goodvibes

Those soaps look very pretty. They must smell awesome!

I'm glad you made it home safely. Our roads got bad quickly. It took me a long time, but I made it. Did Jill get snow?

We are getting snow now, but it is not sticking yet. Our temperature tomorrow will get high enough that even if we have several inches it will melt quickly.

I hope you get your snow day tomorrow, and the food keeps until Friday then you will do an outstanding job on your observation.

As math department head I was trained to do observations when needed. I hated observing my fellow teachers. I was lucky the times I was called on to observe, the teachers were wonderful. I also felt they were a little more relaxed with me in the room, especially the math teachers. I loved mentoring new teachers each year, and having student teachers. They usually came in with new ideas and it gave me a fresh look at teaching methods. I miss the students and the teachers, but I do not miss the paper work.

Just a dusting of snow for us -- much like the sugar on a powdered doughnut. I have a feeling we are trudging in this morning. Enjoy your snow day! I almost wish we had one, too, just so I could catch up on the DIS.

Nothing better than a sleeping girl who has had lots of fun at Disney! :goodvibes

Snow day for MeMom?

Great DTD pictures, the one of Brooklynn sleeping, map still in her hands, made me smile. :goodvibes

Sorry to hear about the rough day with the fighting kids yesterday :sad2: I only ever remember one fight breaking out in all my years of school....I have a feeling that even though I only graduated 14 years ago, it's changed a whole lot....and not for the better. Sigh. Makes me nervous to send Henry out there!:sad1:

I guess all the snow stayed in Nashville. We barely got a dusting. I am happy though. If I do not work, I do not make a living. Work is a necessity. Sorry I have been away from the boards. I have had two kiddos sick now. Cooper now has a fever. The boys' birthday party is on Saturday so I hope he starts feeling better tomorrow. I have been running around like a mad woman getting stuff together for the party. It is cowboy theme. We are making the cake. I will post it if I remember. I hope it turns out well. My first fondant project. I am sneaking Disney into the party. I am using Jessie, Woody and Bullseye as part of the decorations and I am giving Mickey suckers, Mickey silly bands as part of the favor bags.
I am glad Drew is feeling better and, no MeMom, doctors do not find things wrong. We just bring to light problems that are going unrecognized and could be potentially fatal.;)

We got ours, and tomorrow will be iffy. I really want to go tomorrow in hopes that I can go ahead and use all this food in my lesson. If not, I'll have to rebuy some next week.

I'm with you on that hopping on a plane idea!

I'm glad you made it home safely. Our roads got bad quickly. It took me a long time, but I made it. Did Jill get snow?

She did, but not as much as predicted. They are having a snow day, too, though.

I guess you'll have to put it in the pot for #3!

She has her hands full now, but I really hope when Bella is a year or two older, they will have another one. Maybe Brandy's lively crew will convince her that three is a good number. :) She came from three and John came from three, so I am hoping they will think three is a nice-sized family.

Of course, if three turns into four or five, I'm good with that, too. ;)

I know some of this food will be good until next week, but some will have to be replaced. The tops of the carrots are already looking a little weak. :upsidedow

I do love the teaching. Watching the kids so excited yesterday at what the zoo people were showing them - that was so fun for me. It's all the paperwork, discipline problems, and testing pressure that makes being a teacher not so much fun sometimes. Teaching and being a teacher are two very different things in this day and time, unfortunately.

You are powdered donuts.
We are frosting on a cake.
At least we're not a big bowl of ice cream, like some of our northern pals!

She was a zonked little traveler that night.

No snow day for Lexi......

Off to work I go....:drive:

Be safe.
Move down here, and you can get some snow days! ::yes::

Snow day for MeMom?

Yep, but the sun is out now, so maybe it will melt enough for us to go to school tomorrow. Snow days were fun at first, but now people are tired of them. Teachers and kids still like them, but parents have been tested. There was a church sign someone put up on FB that said 'Whoever is praying for snow, please stop!'

I have been at my school for about 16 years. I have seen drastic changes in attitudes and behaviors of students. I am becoming more and more and more supportive of the homeschooling experience for many reasons.

Too bad we don't live closer. I could spend my snow day doing birthday party errands for you. I'm a good goodie bag stuffer. :thumbsup2 You have to share party pictures, even if it takes you a little while to get around to it, since we know you are so busy.

I hope the boys are feeling close to 100% by party time. :)

I am glad Drew is feeling better and, no MeMom, doctors do not find things wrong. We just bring to light problems that are going unrecognized and could be potentially fatal.;)

I knew I was going to be in trouble for that one!
