My Magical Journey to Running the Half Marathon TR Link! p.107

Think it works out at 1 mile every 11 minutes if its 8.8 km an hour. Does that sound about right for a beginner to you? God I really havent a clue! I was the girl made kneel at the side of the track saying the rosary for cutting the corners during P.E class(mind you I just thought that was fine by me and I was skinny then):rotfl2:

I think 8.8 km is about 5.5 mph? Got to love google. And I think your walks were at about 3.5, which I think is a good pace - especially for recovering after a run/jog. I think your jogs might be a bit fast for just starting out, but you'll find out on week 2 for sure. If you're doing okay with it, then carry on. But, if you're struggling to make it through, cut back to about 7.2 KM and see if that helps.

:goodvibesThanks for the help. There's me thinking I'm a natural born superwoman:rotfl2:
Mind you I'd better go perform a miracle and resusitate the dinner I incinerated while messing about on dis:lmao:
Have a good day.Cheerio for now

You went much faster than I did on my first day! :worship: You went faster than I go now! :rotfl:

:cool1: Finally got here to read your report Carissa....

Keep up the great work

I have been putting more thought into our plans for the trip. I'd forgotten how much fun it is to plan a Disney trip! :goodvibes

So, here is my updated itinerary (this is if we're staying at CSR - which could change):

Thursday - Arrive/Check In/Epcot/Dinner at Teppan Edo/Illuminations

Friday - Breakfast at Pepper Market?/Expo/Lunch? (CS)/Magic Kingdom/Dinner at California Grill/Wishes

Saturday - Half-marathon/rest/lunch? (CS)/DTD/Dinner at Paradiso 37?/Cirque du Soleil

Sunday
- Late breakfast?? (TS)/Hollywood Studios/Mama Melrose?/Fantasmic!

Monday - Breakfast? (CS)/Depends on what time flight home is

1) I considered doing the Deluxe Dining Plan because we're eating at Cali Grill and I wanted to eat at Brown Derby - two 2 credit restaurants. But, if I nix the BD idea and pay out of pocket for Cali Grill, it's still a bit cheaper to go with the regular Dining Plan. I'm still undecided. I kind of wish there was an option for 2 TS credits a day and 1 counter service. That would work better for us. Feel free to convince me that the Deluxe plan would be better. ;) **Update - Chuck just told me via email that we should go ahead and do the deluxe plan! I'm still not sure we will, but it'll be fun to play around with it.

2) You might notice that I took Animal Kingdom off of the schedule. The only day I could fit it in was either Saturday after the race or Monday. The problem with Saturday is I don't think we're going to want to do a ton of walking around a park. Expedition Everest is really the only main thing on our list. I like the idea of just taking it easy on Saturday and going to see Cirque du Soleil. And I'm not sure what time our flight will be leaving on Monday. There is always a chance I could add it back to Monday.

3) Where is your favorite place to go for breakfast outside of a park (table service)? I need a good one for Sunday morning. We could do the buffet at Maya Grill, but doesn't excite me much.

4) Has anyone eaten at Paradiso 37? I've read some good reviews.

5) I may have to change everything around if I find out Fantasmic won't be happening that Sunday night (and I realize that's a huge possibility). Is there any rhyme or reason to the nights that Fantasmic! is happening during the winter months?

6) I've been mulling over the idea of resorts again. I asked Chuck what his dream resort would be and he listed four: Grand Floridian, Polynesian, Animal Kingdom, and Wilderness Lodge. I'm all over the Poly, but it's so expensive. We might be able to swing it if I could get the military 40% off deal we got last time, but I believe that ends in September. I'd like to visit Grand Floridian, but I don't have a ton of interest in staying there. I love both AK and WL, but there's no body of water to relax by and that's kind of key for me. We've spent quite a bit of time at both of the last two resorts. Which would you choose and why - also considering my current choice of Coronado Springs Resort?

I'd list out all the meals you could get per plan and then decide how much would you really eat...based on price. I know reg DDP is $41.99 right now, what is deluxe?

When are you going to book? It is my understnading if prices go up in August the DDP will go in affect after the first of the new yr...I'd ask if you purchase DDP now are you locked into the current price...

I think that is a good plan for now too...wait and see what kind of flights you get...if the only really goal for AK is EE.

I will talking quiet romantic or just good food?...I have not eaten bfst too many times in the World and all have been character meals...but I'd suggest Kona Cafe at the Poly...it would be a wonderful meal and I thought the serive there was great when we ate there twice for dinner in 08...macademia pancakes sounds YUM-O to me!

4) Has anyone eaten at Paradiso 37? I've read some good reviews.

sorry can't help on this one.

5) I may have to change everything around if I find out Fantasmic won't be happening that Sunday night (and I realize that's a huge possibility). Is there any rhyme or reason to the nights that Fantasmic! is happening during the winter months?

:confused3 probably less than more...can you see when it was on this yr Jan?

We stayed CSR last yr...I don't know what the status of refurb they are in...but the rooms look gorgeous just as nice as Deluxe...the pool there was very cool too and there is hammocks near the lake. check out the resorts threads I know there is a fan thread for this resort there.

I agree with taking it easy on Saturday. Depending on your flight on Monday, AK would be a great park to do on the last day. Your Saturday with the race, a relaxing lunch and afternoon, then dinner and Cirque sounds perfect!

If I could stay at ANY resort it would probably be Animal Kingdom Lodge. The Grand Floridian does nothing for me, likewise Wilderness Lodge. The Poly is beautiful, but something about the AKL just seems so exotic. The animals roaming and the African theme pull me in!

I'm sure this is different for everyone, but I wouldn't do Cirque the night of the race. I'm always really tired after long distance races and I wouldn't want to be trying not to nod off during Cirque. Costs too much to risk it (even if you're able to get a nap in).

All of the rooms have been renovated now and they're gorgeous! I've read through their resort thread a few times and I've sent Chuck some pictures. If I can't get a good deal on the Poly, I think we'll probably end up with CSR.

I don't think we can even book now? :confused3 The WDW site doesn't let me look at January 2011. So, when I book depends on when they let me. Does anyone know?

Kona is one place that I'm thinking about. We ate there for dinner last trip and loved the food. I think it would a great choice for breakfast. Just trying to think of all our options.

Thanks Julie! :)

AKL used to be one that I really wanted to stay at, but I so fell in love with the layout of POR and having the water right there. I think I would really miss it.

We would do the 6:00 show and it's only an hour and a half. I would imagine we could stay awake until 7:30. I was going to plan it for Sunday, but there are no shows Sunday or Monday.

WL does have a beach on the lake that you can relax by, it is off to the side though which is probably why you have never seen it before. :thumbsup2

My suggestion is to request a vacation DVD from the WDW site and provide them with your e-mail. Over the past couple months Y have received THREE pin codes, the latest one I received today and it was 40% off. You never know when a good pin may come your way, you just have to make sure they know that you are interested in going. ;)

Singing in. Haven't caught up yet though. Just getting started in fact. I hope to be up to par by tomorrow.

For me I don't see now any of them are worth 2 TS. I always figure the cost of the DDP should get used up at dinner if I order right and everything else is gravy. Using that math, a 2TS dinner is worth $83 pp. Now granted, you could spend that much there for sure but you'd be getting adult drinks, salad and maybe an app for that! So for me, unless I really wanted to sit down that many times a day and not use it on 2TS restaurants, I would never go deluxe. However, the pre-pay aspect of it is nice. I do think you get your value out of the show 2 TS meals (Hoop and Aloha) but that's about it.

I could tell you in august...maybe...if I can get everyone out of bed....

:rotfl:
4) Has anyone eaten at Paradiso 37? I've read some good reviews.

That's funny, I had it on my list, read some bad reviews and took it off. It is not on the Dining Plan. We could easily still go there it's just not a must do.

5) I may have to change everything around if I find out Fantasmic won't be happening that Sunday night (and I realize that's a huge possibility). Is there any rhyme or reason to the nights that Fantasmic! is happening during the winter months?
no help there but I can say that the august hours this year matched the historical august hours if that helps. Or at least they do so far.

6) I've been mulling over the idea of resorts again. I asked Chuck what his dream resort would be and he listed four: Grand Floridian, Polynesian, Animal Kingdom, and Wilderness Lodge. There is a beach at WL! Poly is a lot less than GF but more than the other 2. Given that it is your first couple trip in a long time, it is a short trip so less nights I would try to make the Poly work if that floats your boat!

Bear in mind it will be Jan so not sure how warm it will be to relax by the water...

But I'd go deluxe resort over Deluxe DDP all things being equal for a couples trip.

Hey Carissa!

Have you considered renting DVC points for your stay? That way you could stay at AKV for somewhere btwn the price of a value/mod, and possibly with your savings spend 2 nights at the end of your trip at the Poly.

If you did do a split stay, then perhaps you could do the deluxe dining plan for part of your stay, without committing to it the entire trip.

I hear ya on the 2TS and 1CS meal plan - that is a great idea and an option I wish Disney would provide!

As for the value of the DxDP, I have done the math many, many times, and it is definitely worth it when I run the numbers to use 2TS credits at 2 credit restaurants. I hear a lot of people say that it is not worth it to spend 2 credits on a meal, and if you are comparing value for money in the sense of getting 2 meals vs. 1 meal, then yes that is true. However, if you are planning on eating at a 2 credit restaurant anyway, run the math based on the menu and what you would be likely to order at the 2 credit restaurant vs. what you would spend on 2 regular TS meals and see if it works out for you. In all cases, I have been able to justify spending the 2 TS credits.

I also have a suggestion for breakfast outside the Parks. Have you tried Kona at the Poly? It is our favourite breakfast spot in all of WDW, and of course it gets bonus points for being located in the beautiful Polynesian!

:rotfl:HI! I of course would see how expensive the Poly would be;) My husband and I loved it last year. We have never done the dining plan so no help there. Just to let you know that there is a link Travel details for the Marathon @ the disney world marathon site. Just choose half marathon and then choose
Travel details and there is the 2011 magic your way marathon rates link. It links you to the disney site for special packages geared toward marathon runners. I looked at it today after finally reigistering for the race:banana: I guess there is no turning back now:rotfl: I have no nidea where we will stay but I do not think we will do the parks that weekend. Hopefully having been there in Nov. like signature says. I would not mind hanging with the hubby at some of the lounges in different resorts and eating at signature restaurants.:woohoo:

How did I not know this??? You have totally made my night!! :cool1: :cool1: :cool1: I need to go research WL more.

:welcome: Thanks for stopping by! :) There really isn't much to get caught up on. Most of my installments are me just whining about running. :rolleyes1

Since we'd be eating at two 2 credit restaurants, most of the days would only end up being two sit down meals - a late breakfast and then dinner. We'd have one day of 3 TS meals and when I mentioned that to Chuck his response was, "And??" :rotfl: I prefer TS meals because I can sit and relax and be waited on. This trip is all about doing things that we wouldn't do if the boys were with us and getting to enjoy as many good meals as we can will be high on our list.

or extend your trip :rotfl:

I wouldn't do that to my parents. ;)

That's funny, I had it on my list, read some bad reviews and took it off. It is not on the Dining Plan. We could easily still go there it's just not a must do.

If it's not on the dining plan, then that changes things.

There is a beach at WL! Poly is a lot less than GF but more than the other 2. Given that it is your first couple trip in a long time, it is a short trip so less nights I would try to make the Poly work if that floats your boat!

Yes! Lessa just told me. :goodvibes I'm going to look into WL more and then see if we can get a deal to help us decide.

Bear in mind it will be Jan so not sure how warm it will be to relax by the water...

It's always relaxing to be by the water. Now, being IN the water would be a different story.

Hey Carissa!

Have you considered renting DVC points for your stay? That way you could stay at AKV for somewhere btwn the price of a value/mod, and possibly with your savings spend 2 nights at the end of your trip at the Poly.

I am kind of nervous about renting points from someone and for a 4 night stay, I don't really want to switch resorts.

I hear ya on the 2TS and 1CS meal plan - that is a great idea and an option I wish Disney would provide!

Maybe I should pitch the idea to Disney! ;)

As for the value of the DxDP, I have done the math many, many times, and it is definitely worth it when I run the numbers to use 2TS credits at 2 credit restaurants. In all cases, I have been able to justify spending the 2 TS credits.

That's how I look at it too. Of course we could go to WDW and spend less money on food. But, by getting the plan, we're able to eat where and however we want and not worry about how much we're spending and to me that's a big plus.

I also have a suggestion for breakfast outside the Parks. Have you tried Kona at the Poly? It is our favourite breakfast spot in all of WDW, and of course it gets bonus points for being located in the beautiful Polynesian!

We have eaten at Kona for dinner and it is on my list of ideas for breakfast. :thumbsup2

Yay for registering! :cool1: :cool1: I did know there were some deals for marathoners. I'll have to check it out again.

We're doing the parks, but in a very relaxed way with very few items on our to do list. :thumbsup2 There will be no rope drop this trip. ;)

I have to admit, if there was a 1.5TS a day plan...I'd do it in a heartbeat! Something in between the regular plan and deluxe....problem is the best value is dinner, you can lose money on bfast.

How did I not know this??? You have totally made my night!! :cool1: :cool1: :cool1: I need to go research WL more.

The code I got today was good until December. They probably won't send codes out for Jan/Feb until the summertime but it is good to know that you are in the system so hopefully you will get a code in a few months time that will be good for your dates. :thumbsup2
