When I was a little girl I became obsessed with My Little Pony and loved seeing all the different pony figures they had and even today I still am a diehard My Little Pony fan and I can honestly say that if there was any 80's girl's toy that proved how successful it would become My Little Pony fits that bill. Because when My Little Pony debuted it was all over lunchboxes school supplies clothing and anything else you can imagine and they even had the My Little Pony cartoon series from 1986-1987 and two TV specials as well. And next to the Care Bears My Little Pony is second in popularity in 80's toys. I cannot believe how even today My Little Pony is still popular and the current line is still going strong

My daughter had a lot of them.....I enjoyed buying them for her and watching her play with them

My sister did. I do remember the first christmas present I ever picked out for her myself (that was "from" me even though my mom paid for it) was this pink and blue one that I thought was very striking.

Did not collect, but I had a couple and would sometimes play with them. I was into Cabbage Patch Kids - I had 9 of those plus tons of clothes and accessories. I always felt like CPK was way bigger than my little pony or care bears.

I was a little older and more into music when they came out but always thought MLP were super cute. If I remember correctly some of them had scented hair.

I remember a store in downtown disney that sold my little pony stuff. I remember they had some kind of deal where you paid for a container and for a set price got as much stuff as you could stuff into it (just certain items in a designated area were eligible). my kid was a GOOD stuffer  and we brought home a pile of pony swag. there's a large plastic bin i've kept some of my kid's toys in that someday they will have to go through-the ponies and their pony swag sits in an airtight ziplock and keeps polly pocket (and her swag) along with tickle me elmo, demonic sleep and snore ernie, the dragon tales gang and some veggie tales stuff company.

I think when My Little Pony came out Hasbro was taking a giant gamble on it because they knew how My Little Pony could sell to younger girls and based on the first release of ponies in 1982 Hasbro was on their way to making the My Little Pony line a success. And as you can see from bedding to plush ponies to food My Little Pony did take off on it's own. But I think as Cabbage Patch Kids and Care Bears remained tops in the 80's My Little Pony still was popular. Do you remember the cartoon My Little Pony Tales that used to air on Disney Channel in 1992? I think the success of that cartoon alone not only meant My Little Pony's return to TV but I think Hasbro was planning to create more pony figures but the line had it's finale in 1992. But when they brought My Little Pony back in 1997 Hasbro was gonna attract new fans to the line but for some reason it failed greatly. I think the success of the cartoon My Little Pony Friendship Is Magic has made the current line of My Little Pony popular with a new generation of fans who want to introduce their children to My Little Pony because today it has continued to sell a lot in stores
