I cannot believe my little Jasmine started first grade today. I want her to stay a little girl forever. I must have taken a billion pictures.
My litle boy starts KG on thursday. What will I do with myself. When did they grow up:mad:

I hear ya. Mine doesn't start 1st grade until September, but wow... 1st grade. Scary. Somehow the kids are all much more calm about it than the adults ;)

I'm a former first grade teacher and have seen more parents cry than kids. Trust that your kids are in the caring hands of teachers who love children. Trust me you could not teach in the lower grades otherwise. You wouldn't last a week.

Look at this stage in their lives as a time to show what great kids you have raised them to be. Volunteer in their school to stay connected and always value education. They will be just fine because you love them.

I feel your pain:(
Mine is a senior in HS this year.

Just wait til she comes home so excited to tell you about her day.

My DD starts kindergarten in 3 weeks, so I'll be crying right along with you!

Hang in there Mom! I did the first grade thing last year.. It's hard!! sniff sniff!

I put DS on the bus last year for Grade 1, waved him goodbye with a HUGE smile pasted on my face, turned around, went into the house, and cried like a baby. (and he's been in organized Day Care Centers since he was 17 months old).

It is much harder on us, than it is on them, and just think ahead to this afternoon to all the cool stuff she is going to have to tell you.

*passes the tissues over to Jasminesmommy* :D

Awwwwwwwwwwww I remember those days . . .just seems like yesterday . . .I feel for ya . . .My DS will be starting middle school and DD will be in 10th grade . . .time goes by very quickly. ::yes::

I'm with you on this one! All our kids are/are being adopted and we homeschool them, but I have to put my dd in public schools until the adoption is final in Feb! The worst part is that I have only had her 2 weeks today! I broke down at meet the teacher night on Friday, but did much better yesterday (her first day). I just wish I had more time with her instead of sending her off for the entire day less than 2 weeks after I met her. I just keep telling myself that 6 months isn't that long. Then I get her back to homeschool!

we both survived her first day. She had alot of fun and learned the chicken dance. She even got a book from the library today. I get to meet her teacher tomorrow.

As a current first grade teacher, I can't agree with RumpleMom more! Those of us who teach first grade want to be there. People rarely choose to move into a first grade or kindergarten position unless they love it. They know that they wouldn't last.

It is always a busy place. I love to see how far the children come by the end of the year. Be assured, Jasminesmommy, that you will both have a great year.

Oh how I remember those days! My little girls are big now - starting 7th and 10th grades. Yikes, where do the years go? Found a book at B&N last night that I bought for my best friend - her dd leaves for college tomorrow. It made both me and my 16 yo dd cry in the middle of the book store - a new must right up there with Dr. Suess's Oh, The Places You Will Go . It's called The Kissing Hand by Audrey Penn. Share it with your child, it's very special. Perfect for those first days away from Mommy for the day.

My child's class heard the "Kissing Hand" on their first day of school last week. I didn't know what the story was about but now I do. She brought home a hand print for me. I read the comment about the chicken dance; ask your kids if they have learned the Toooo-DE-Ta song. Both of mine learned it in Kingergarten so it may be a KG thing and not a 1st grade thing; but it is hillarious if you have never heard it!!!!!
