My kitty is missing...

We went camping this weekend. My landlords offered to watch our kitties at their apartment. We thought this would be better for them as they could play with their kitties and not be lonely...

Well they let one of my kitties out. She had been missing since Friday night. They didn't even call and tell us we just came home around 1:00 on Sunday and go to pick up our kitties. Well Mickey comes right out to us but Grace is no where to be found. They SWEAR she must be in the house and they didn't let her out and they have been looking all over but we look and look and can't find her. Later that day we find that she was in the cellar under the garage... Its mostly collaspsed and all dirt and she was hiding in there. Of course my idiot landlord doesn't let my husband slowly climb down to get her but goes blundering in with his son yelling half the time. Of course all this does is chase her out and no one could catch her she was so scared and just ran.

She ran over a foot bridge that goes over a river and then some railroad tracks. This is the worst place she could be its ALL woods and she is on the wrong side of the river so that foot bridge is the only place within over a block that she can get back to our side of the river. Its also all woods so there is no way to find her in there unless she wants to be found.

We have called animal control and my hubby is calling the shelters today if someone finds her. She still had her collar and tags when they scared her so we hope she doesn't lose them in the woods.

I miss her, my husband misses her, and my Mickey misses her. I"m at work and all worried about him too this is the first day he has EVER been by himself. He had his brothers until they all got adopted on the same day and then had Grace. Both my husband and I are at work all day so he will be home by himself from a little after 6 until we get home around 4:30.

Oh I'm sorry I remember years ago when one of our dogs took off and I had to go to work..I was a wreck all shift..he was home when I got home & I am hoping you will have the same outcome.

 I hope you are able to find her.

I would be beside myself if my Bear went missing. I hope Gracie stays safe and is back home soon! :grouphug:

So very sorry about your kitty, I hope you're able to find him.

I've wanted to take my cat (indoor) camping with us but I'm so afraid she would get out and be scared and run off and we wouldn't be able to find her, so even though I know she's probably a little lonely at home I think it's better to have her stay home, and someone come in once a day to feed her.

What I would try:

Put Mickey on a harness and leash, take a lawn chair and some cat treats, and go sit over near the woods. Stay calm and speak quietly.
Call out to Grace once in a while. Shake the treats or food container, make any noise that used to attract her.
With luck you, Mickey, and/or the treats may entice her to come to you.
Be prepared to spend some time, and you may need to go a few times.

Sending good vibes, hoping Grace comes back to you. I know it's hard, I would be frantic if one of my kitties got out.

Lol my husband was saying something like this. We would never be able to take Grace camping she hates car rides. Both cats were at my neighbors, the woods are near my house.

Mickey might be able to do camping. Espeically if we were in my parents camper. He likes being on a leash and exploring much more then Grace does. However this trip I couldn't have done that as it was with the whole family and my sister and neice are VERY alergic.

I agree with this. She is probably hiding out there, and hearing your voice along with smelling the food may bring her out. If you can't get Mickey to cooperate with a leash, you can bring him in a carrier.

Also, he may come back to your apartment complex. I would make flyers and put them by the apartment mailboxes or roll them and stick them between the wall and doorknob of each unit. When my cat was lost(for a week), I had put up flyers on phone poles. Then I put them on all the mailboxes and that's when someone called. Its really hard to read those little signs on poles when you're driving.

Good luck!

Marsha

Sending you good, positive thoughts that you find Gracie soon  I like NonScents idea of trying to lure Gracie out with treats and Mickey :thumbsup2 Please let us know what happens :cat:

I'm so sorry, it's a horrible feeling.

I can't believe your neighbor thought that his method would work...

I hope your situation ends better than ours did.:hug::hug:

This is my biggest fear when somebody watches our kitties when we are out of town.

I know that our cats usually come running when they hear somebody crinkling the bag of cat treats or shaking a box that sounds like it has food in it. You might go to the area where think your kitty is and try something like that.

I sure hope you find her soon.

When my Kitty went missing he jumped off our second floor balcony through a hole in the screen. By the time we noticed him missing (about 30 minutes) it had started to rain and thunder. We tried looking for him but no luck.

So I took his kitty carrier and placed it outside where the fall would have left him. I put his blanket and a familiar toy inside. No food since i didn't want to attract other kitties. In the morning my kitty had found his carrier and was sleeping inside!

Maybe you could take a cat carrier and put her familiar items inside by the area you last saw her. or a Laundry hamper with familiar items. Leave it overnight and check for her early in the AM. Good luck!

I'm sorry.. :(

Keep in mind though that sometimes a kitty can find their own way home.. Hopefully this will be the case with yours..

First of all, I really hope that you find your cat....that's heartbreaking.

As an owner of a pet-sitting business, I can tell you that I take heart wrenching calls from owners like you who have lost a pet or had a terrible experience with a neighbor, friend or the neighborhood kid caring for their pet.

Again, I really hope your kitty returns.

If you go on petfinder and find a rescue group in yoru area, many have traps they will loan out for this. They work rather well. We've had quite a bit of success helping people trap a run away kitten.
Nonscents idea is also a good one.
I hope you find your baby.

I think this will work. During the past few months our indoor/outdoor cat has just disappeared a few times. She was gone as long as 12 days at one point, we thought she was gone for good. We did something similar to what is suggested above and anywhere from 2- 6 hours later our cat showed up at our doorstep.

We figure our cat was either chasing something or was being chased and was running like crazy until she realized she was lost. She was only a block or two away from home, but we've learned that many cats don't have a homing device like many dogs do. In other words, they don't have to be far from home before they aren't able to find their way back. We walked the perimiter of a wooded area about a block & a half away from our home where we thought she might have gotten lost. We spoke softly, DW and I talking together occasionally mentioning the cats name. We then went home and waited. Every time this has happened, a few hours later our cat came home.
There is hope for your kitty, so please keep trying.:)

I found out this morning that someone saw Gracie go back in the garage!! As soon as we can get home (hubby can't leave work early they won't let him and car is being repaired anyway cause the stupid driver (me) hit the curb and killed the front rim and tire) we are going to take her favorite ball, the carrier she likes to sleep in when she wants to get away from the rambunctious kitten and some food and see if we can get her to come out and go home!

My husband left our first door (our apartment is upstairs so there is a door that goes from the ground level and just has stairs that go to our apt and a small landing) open last night... I wish she just went it there... would be so much easier then the garage to get her out.

Good. I hope she comes out this time and doesn't try to run away again. Can you close the garage door once you know she's in there?

Also be very patient with her. She's probably terrified from this ordeal. It may take an hour to coax her out of hiding.
