My kitty is missing...

If she is still in the area she ran she is lost. There is no where I would be able to set up a trap as the woods are THICK right to the side walk the only place I could put it is back on the bridge since not many people use it.

Also we did put food in this area and it was never touched.

However I have seen very few animals ever around the house and SOMETHING is eating the food.

She does know that is our door btw. We would take her out on a leash sometimes and she would do ok for a bit but always want to go back in early. I never thought we would lose her since I could literally stand in the yard. Drop her leash and all she would do is go sit at the outside door we now have open for her and wait for us to open it.

I don't recommend a trap at all - they are great in concept but can end up hurting the cats - even the havahart trap has hurt cats which is why the spay and neuter program we volunteer with (we capture feral and stray cats to neuter/spay and then release them back into the wild) no longer uses them. If they don't hurt a cat or other animal, they scare the crap out of them and turn them into jumpy cats for the rest of their lives.

If you can, set up a webcam. There is free software available online that allows you to record via motion detection (you just leave a light on - go to CNET.com for more info and recommendations. A neighbor had her cat missing for a little while and all that time, he was sneaking food from our house. We didn't even need to capture him because cats are like clockwork - they show up at nearly the same times to eat. After a week of observation we just were able to catch him during those times. We still set it up every once in a while to see if there are any new cats to the area. It is also great for catching our own animals doing things they shouldn't.

I agree with Micca. You are going to have to be willing to invest in spending some time in the woods over the bridge. If you cat was that afraid and stayed by the door when you let her out, again, she is NOT going to venture in the open and across the bridge to get to you.

She actually ran AWAY from your DH in the garage, she was so freaked out.

If she actually got to your door to eat the food, why wouldn't she stay?

You have to start thinking like a cat.


Also, maybe the neighbor did see a cat go in the garage, another cat in your area - the one eating the food you leave out.
