My kitty got hit by a car last night ***UPDATE page 3***

I'm so sorry to hear about your "baby". I will keep him in my prayers and hope the doctor says he will be ok. I have a cat and a dog and next week I am getting 2 new kittens so I know how you must feel.

oh, the poor thing:( I hope he gets better soon:(

I hope kitty mends quickly and is feeling better soon. Simba and Cali are sending him lots of supersonic catnip.:D

Poor baby,

I can tell you we've been there with the $3,000 vet bill when my Minnie was 2, shes now 6 and I've never EVER regretted spending that money on her. We did have a wonderful vet who let us make payments until it was paid off which took well over a year.

Good luck with your baby.

This happened to my cat Stormy. When we moved here I tamed him from being a wild cat to a tame house cat. He still loved going outdoors so we let him. One time he didnt return for a while and when he did his whole back leg was dislocated from the rest of his body. We took him to the vet and had the same options that you have. My dad was going to put him down ( he was in Canada at the time for work) I cried and screamed and he conceced to have the surgery. My dad hated cats by the way. It ran him about 2000 for the surgery and for the cage. I took care of Stormy who was supposed to flip his paw out and walk on it. No one told Stormy this apparantly because he walked on his knuckles. I ended up putting peroxide on this daily to keep out infections. To make the story short. My dad has since fell in love with this cat and he is now 13 years old (this happened when he was less than a year). My dad now owns 4 cats but Stormy is our special cat! I hope everything works for you and if you need any advice or someone to talk to about it I am just a PM away. :)

phorsenuf, I just PM'd you.

Does everyone on here know that you can get health insurance coverage for your pets? I bought the highest plan through VPI for my sister's puppy. I pay $199/yr. for it. I was also about to insure my 6 1/2 year-old cat through them for the same cost per year. They are still waiting on insuring my older cat, because he has a preexisting condition. I'm hoping to get him covered soon. It's better to cover your pets when they're young, so they can't deny them based upon preexisting conditions. It IS possible to cover older pets, though.

oh your poor kitty!! sending lots of pixie dust that it is a speedy recovery. my kitty Lily sends lots of love and hopes that he is better really soon. :cat:

We'll keep your kitty in our thoughts and prayers. With alot of TLC and prayers he'll pull through. My Ashes kitty will help me send you good thoughts. Keep us posted. Get well soon,

That's so awful! Poor kitty!! Bigs hug to you and kitty for a speedy recovery!!

This happened to my kitty too several years ago, he is now 20! He is an indoor kitty and escaped, his pelvis was broken too. The vet I took him too just said to put him in a cage (I had a large dog crate) and for the first couple of days give him baby food, I guess so his poop wouldn't be so solid. Anyways that is what I did. He also said that if cat and pelvis were in the same room they would heal as long as he was not to active. No surgery etc. Now yours maybe more serious but I am just relating what I went through. After about a week in the crate I did let him out for awhile if you wanted to move about ....it was actually about 2 weeks and he would go out alittle but never tried to over exert himself, I think that animals like people know their limitations. I am praying that your kitty makes a speedy recovery and his injuries heal as fast as my kitties did. Like I said that was about 10 years ago and he is getting ready to celebrate number 20!

hope your kitty is ok, I vote for the cage

My oldest dog was hit too...she broke her pelvis(probably only 1 break...they didn't say multiple) and dislocated her hip. It took her a while to get back on her feet...today (about 4 years later) she is great. Good luck to your baby!

Thank you all so much for the well wishes for my baby!

He's still holding his own but is in alot of pain :(
I took him to his regular vet yesterday and she said he didn't need surgery! YAY :hyper:
She said she has seen many cases like his and with cage rest (bed rest sounds better) he will heal up. She said she has never once regretted giving that advice to others. She's really very good and I like her alot.
So, Flounder is resting although he is very mad at me right now. I was supposed to bring him back in today because they were going to put a pain patch on him. He was not letting me pick him up! He was tolerant yesterday of it but there was no way he was letting me do it today! I even had to don the oven mitts to try! LOL
Well, I will let him rest today and we will try again tomorrow. I kept telling him it was for his own good but he was not listening! No way, no how! LOL

Again, thanks for all the well-wishes and I'll keep you informed!
