My kitty crossed the Rainbow Bridge today :-(

Oh, that's such a hard decision to make. But I'm sure you know what the right thing is to do for Mittens. He'll have lots of company at the Rainbow Bridge.

:grouphug: It's so difficult to say goodbye but you are doing the right thing. :grouphug:

Well, Mits is gone. He went very peacefully and I know he is up there thanking us for making the right decision and for taking his pain away. He cried briefly when the vet game him a tranquilizer. They shaved a small patch of fur off his leg where they would inject him. They put that last bit of fur in a little bag and gave it to me. He was gone before they finished the injection. What a relief to know he went to heaven so quickly. He will be missed that's for sure.

I am very sorry for your loss. I just put my cocker spaniel down on May 4th and it has been very painful. So I can just imagine what you are feeling. My prayers and thoughts are with you! :grouphug:

:grouphug: I am so sorry! It is such a hard thing to do.

I have five little kittens running around me right now. I wish I could send you one help ease the loss!

I'm so sorry. :grouphug: Always remember that you gave Mittens a good home and a happy life that was filled with love. What more could a kitty ask for? You made your decision out of love, and it was the right thing to do.

It's difficult, I know. :(

So very sorry to hear that about Mits, hemispheredancer. Know you have memories for a lifetime. Mits is at the bridge now, for sure.

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers.
Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

I am so sorry about Mits. It sounds like you made the right decision and he is at the Rainbow Bridge whole and happy. We had to put our beloved 8 year old westie to sleep one month ago after a 5 month bout with cancer so I know what a tough deicsion it is. My thoughts and prayers are with you. Take care.

I am so sorry for you my ddog is like family to me and he died last sept. I did not think I would ever get back to normal. It gets better.

I found this poem on our vet's website and I thought I would share it since it suits Mittens to a T.

IF I SHOULD GROW FRAIL

If it should be that I grow frail and weak
And pain does keep me from my sleep,
Then will you do what must be done
For this - the last battle - can't be won.

You will be sad I understand
But don't let grief then stay your hand.
For on this day, more than the rest
Your love and friendship must stand the test.

We have had so many happy years,
You wouldn't want me to suffer so.
When the time comes, please, let me go.

Take me to where my needs they'll tend,
Only, stay with me till the end.
And hold me firm and speak to me
Until my eyes no longer see.

I know in time you will agree
It is a kindness you do to me.
Although my tail its last has waved,
From pain and suffering I have been saved.

Don't grieve that it must now be you
Who has to decide this thing to do.
We've been so close - we two- these years,
Don't let your heart hold any tears.

Well it is time. Mittens is just an old man now and his body is giving up on him. What was once a 14# cat is now down to about 7. He has a tumor in his jaw and the drooling is becoming unbearable. At the last vet visit it appears that the cancer has infiltrated to his liver. His eating habits have drastically changed. He still desires affection but sleeps most of the time. His four beautiful white paws have now become stained with blood-tinged saliva. He has quit grooming himself. I can't bear to see him like this and I don't want him to suffer. I called the vet and he has a 1:15 appt to go to heaven. He would've been 17 in June. I know he has lived a great life. He was never allowed to roam, but only allowed outside on a leash. He was fed the best food, given a great roof and soft blankets to sleep on. He has received a lot of love and never any harm.

Mittens is beautiful. You have done the most difficult but most kind thing for him. I admire your courage and strength. You were truely unselfish. He sounds like he had a lifetime of love and attention.

:grouphug: I am sorry to hear about your dear cat. I lost one recently.. and that was so tough to deal with. Blessings to you!

Thanks for all the kind thoughts. I really missed him coming in bed with me last night. I missed his purring and his way of telling me to "move over and make room for me"! I will be getting him back in a little over a week and he will stay with me forever. I have gone through and cleaned his box all out and washed his food bowl. It was hard, but needed to be done.

I was thinking about you last pm , The first night is always the toughest, But things do get a little bit easier with each passing day.Just remember you gave him a life that he was deserving of and that you'll have the memories forever!! :sunny:
