My kitten just bit me! :(

At least you won't get "Cat Scratch Fever";)

:lmao:

Ok, you all have scared me. :scared1: I have some antibiotics here and I have started them and I will go to the Dr tomorrow to see what he says about the shot. I can't remember the last time I had one so I guess I should go ahead and get one to be on the safe side.

I can't see the marks anymore but it's still sore because it was on my knuckle. Darn cat!

Just any antibiotics won't work. You need a broad spectrum antibiotic. I defititely wouldn't self medicate here.

When I was taming my (formerly feral) Blackie - he bit me one night on my middle finger's knuckle. I washed it out and went to bed.

The next morning I woke up and my hand/arm was as big as my leg and I couldn't move my elbow or middle finger joints. :scared1:

Please don't mess around with this - even if you think you are ok, see a doctor as soon as possible - just to be safe. (Two years later and I still have problems bending my middle finger.)

::yes:: Yep. It's a horking big pill guaranteed to kill anything, I forget the name of it, but it's pretty much the strongest antibiotic you can get in an oral form.

Best thing you can do right now is make sure the wound is washed out properly, you've hosed it down in peroxide and rubbed in cream. If there's any sort of overnight urgent care near you, I'd go now instead of waiting.

If you don't, the chances are very good that you're going to wake up in the middle of the night ready to chew your arm off, unable to drive because you can't move your hand. (Been there, done that, still have the scar! :scared1:)

Be aware that some cities/counties will require you to give up your cat for quarantine if you report a bite. Not that it's a good reason not to go to the doctor if you think you are at risk for infection... but best to know ahead of time than to be taken by surprise.

Oh my!! It has been a few hours and it has not made a change at all other than still being sore. It is not swollen or red or anything like that yet. I will go to the Dr in the morning and get it looked at. If I wake up in the middle of the night and my arm is as big as my leg I will FREAK!!:scared1:

The sad thing is I fought the kids to not get this cat, now I am attached to the darn thing and couldn't part with him. Today was tempting, but I know he is sorry.:lovestruc

They have teeth, they bite. Especially when afraid. Hopefully it won't fester. I got bitten once by a dirty rotten siamese, little &$*%&. His name was JuJu. The cat so bad, they named him twice. Little Freak.:rotfl: Soooo sweet...sooo NOT!

It was a hard bite, went to the doctors for antibiotics, on the plus side they paid me an extra $50.

I have had three Siamese cats in my life (have one now). They are indeed vindictive little critters who will punish you when you don't give in to their demands. Love 'em though!

He was brutal. Their son wouldn't even stay with them when he came to visit because the cat would pee on his suitcase. :rotfl: He was such a talker too.

My adult cat got his claw caught in the door screen, so I tried to help him. Well, he bit my wrist, the bugger. I remembered my friends GD's cat bit her after a fright with a dog just before I got bit, and it was bad. Her arm swelled up, and she had to have an iv put in for the antibiotics. My wrist swelled so I went to the doc and got treatment plus a tetnus shot.

A couple days later animal control came by, checked the cat's vac records, and quaranteed him to the condo for ten days:lmao:he is an indoor cat.

Get thee to the doctor fast.

Anytime the skin is broke, most medical professionals will recommend that you get treated. See a doctor - they get infected within HOURS because of the high bacterial count.

:rotfl2:

I talked to a friend of mine who is an ER nurse and she also said that I should go to the Dr in the morning. I told her what it was doing and she said to get it checked anyway and get the shot.

I owe you all a big thank you, because I would have just let this go had you all not scared me so bad about it.

I was just wondering what the outcome of the cat bite was? Any word?

I was bugging my cat a couple of months back..she bit me. I went to the Dr next day and he put me on antibiotics as a precaution He told me should it swell or I get a line going up my arm to head to Emerg..about 6 hours later, that was the case!! Ugh...so I went to Emerg and spent that evening and the following 2 evenings sitting there with IV antibiotics to get the infection under control. My cats are indoor..have had all their shots, I had also had a tetanus in the past year so at least that was all in my favour....

And please, cats do not need to go outside! There's nothing good out there for them! :sad2:

Guess DH was lucky. Our cat bit him pretty good last week. He didn't go to the doctor, and the bite didn't get infected.

Curious as to how it turned out. Any updates?

I am happy to say that my finger is fine. It never got infected or anything, I guess the antibotics helps prevent that. It was sore for a couple of days after the bite but it never turned red or anything. I guess I got lucky.

Thank you all for your help!!:goodvibes
