We have a walk in cedar closet in the basement. It's in my office and I've managed to keep the kids out of there so far. Tonight I was working and they were playing in the other room. I went upstairs to heat up dinner and the 4yo opened the closet. He and my 7yo saw toys. I had some covered up but he saw something for the DS and wanted to know if it is for him. I could cry but I shouldn't have left that room open. DH told them he bought those for someone else and Santa will bring their toys. I feel like I've ruined the magic somehow. At least the big gifts weren't in there so maybe it will be ok..

If there are "big" gifts...make those from Santa. Everything in the closet- make from you two.

I say chop off thier hands :rotfl2:

What too extreme?? How about because they snooped and saw their presents, make them donate one toy/stuffed animal(a decent one) to goodwill.

You did catch that they are 4 and 7 right? :lmao: Do they even know what snooped means?

I wouldn't worry about it too much. They probably won't put two and two together at that age. I do like the idea to give what they saw from you and the presents they didnt see from Santa.

My sisters did the same thing when they were little.

Aww, don't beat yourself up too much. They didn't rob a little old lady for drug money. All they did was find their Christmas toys. Whatever they didn't see comes from Santa this year. The stuff they did see comes from you. They ruined their surprise but I'm sure they will still be glad to get the toys.

4 and 7 - you could do what I did, when my 5 y/o found the stash.

Blame it on Santa. Be really ticked about it too.

When you were a kid, Santa wrapped all the presents, and dropped them off, wrapped. Now - because the over-abundance of children in the world - he drops the present off, about a week early and expects the parents to wrap them. Like - with allllll the other things we have to do, baking, cooking, Christmas cards and our own wrapping we have to get done, like we have time for it. But we don't have a choice, do we?? And then has the nerve to stop by, Christmas night, to make sure we got them all wrapped, and take cookies from us??? Ticks me off. :sad2::mad:

That's what I did, and it worked. My son actually was a little ticked at Santa too. How could he put that much pressure on me?

;)

Good luck. :)

Hey guys, have you forgotten?? Santa drops off some of the bigger stuff before Christmas so the parents can help out by wrapping them and storing them for him. He will come on Christmas too but there is only just so much room in that sleigh, ya know.

Just tell them Santa will be disappointed that they saw his gifts but if they promise to never do it again, he will let it go this time. I would even 'fake' a call to confirm it with him right in front of them. Put a little scare in them waiting for him to say it's alright. ;)

We had to call Santa on Christmas day when my son was crying over the cabbage patch baby he got. He had been asking for one for a long time but when I got it he was so upset. Santa okayed returning it to Toys R Us and exchanging it for some Ninja Turtle stuff. :thumbsup2

I agree, just tell them those are from you and the biggies are from Santa.

The year my son was 8 he was on the cusp of believing. I was bummed. Christmas morning he said to me "I knew there wasn't a Santa, I saw Stepd bring in the gifts from his truck" He was so proud of himself for figuring it all out. Me, wanting one more year of Santa, said "Oh Santa called, he was running late this year. He dropped stuff off, we gave him the cookies and he had to go. We told him we would bring everything in. He is so busy, some parents have to help out that aren't working". The look on his face was PRICELESS. Obviously he didn't believe after that year, but that one minute in time I will never forget!
