My kid met Guy Fieri

Not surprised to hear about Guy. His personality comes through that way on TV...at least to me.

I met Wanda Sykes years ago and she was extremely nasty to my friend and I, who were nothing but kind to her. Since then I have run into a few other celebrities, but have not approached them because of that one experience with Wanda.

I've told this story before but I went to middle school and was in classes with Jimmy Sullivan (The Rev from Avenged Sevenfold)...I think he was also at my high school for a time (he didn't finish). He bullied me (I'm a woman, so it wasn't a 'boys will be boys' 'hazing' thing). He was doing drugs in middle school.

The only celebrity I've ever met was Betty White. My friend and I were at the airport and heard her being paged to report to some gate, so we raced over to the gate and there she was! We asked for her autograph and she was as nice and sweet as could be. We were thrilled!!!! I was a teenager, so this was about 100 years ago and every time I see her on TV I think of that chance encounter. Oh, and I also have to say "Did I ever tell you about the time I met Betty White?", which I undoubtedly did, numerous times!

Sadly, that doesn't surprise me. He's painfully obnoxious on his shows, like a little frat boy. And they can edit the worst parts out for TV. So I assumed he'd be worse in real life. I'm so sorry about your son though. That is hugely disappointing to a kid to find out their heroes have feet of clay after all. :/

Saw Pat Riley once when he was scouting at a college basketball game. He was chatting it up with random people who recognized him. I asked if I could take a photo, and he said OK but asked that I wait until he finished his hot dog. I ended up not taking it. But my impression was that he doesn't treat random people poorly.

I've met random athletes before, and they could be jerks or pretty normal.

I guess the only "celebrity chef" I've ever met was Alice Waters. I don't know how well known she is, but she's definitely a local celebrity and seemed down to earth. She definitely didn't give out the "do you know who I am" impression that I got from the original post about Guy Fieri.

I'm not surprised at all. He seems like would be a jerk.

My cousin met Christopher Reeves back in the day and he was a complete jerk to her too. It's one reason I NEVER want to meet people I like, lol!

I "almost" met Al Michaels at a MNF game, but I chose not to.

You asked to take his picture while he was eating? I feel bad for celebrities who are off the clock being bothered for pictures and autographs. It must be a pain.

My kid met Guy Fieri (from Food Network) yesterday.
And he was a complete jerk.

One kid with them asked for a photo, (only kid to actually know who he was) he said sure. Kid asked politely, said thank you. And then Guy Feiri lectured him front of the other kids on how he is old enough to have manners, he should be grateful etc.
The kids were totally confused because they heard their friend say please and thank you.
Then he stormed off.
I imagine he didn't hear the kid, but still...

I grew up in "the Hamptons" and was familiar with a lot of jerky B list stars, but I was kind of surprised especially because of his "regular guy " persona .
My kid is unimpressed by "stars" already in general, and had no idea who he was, so she didn't care but felt bad for the boy who was humiliated.
Any stars surprise you with their behavior? ( Good or bad)
For some reason this doesn't surprise me. He comes off as a bit if a jerk even on tv.

Not really. He was chatting with someone and hadn't started eating when I asked. His hot dog was on a table and I didn't even notice it until he picked it up. He wasn't cranky about it or anything, but halftime was almost over and I headed back to my seat.

I'm not surprised about Guy. I've heard bad things about him. Rachael Ray was being interviewed here a couple of years ago. They were at a restaurant for the interview. She called out to the waiter "hey boy" and instantly I lost ALL respect for her.

Bert Kreischer (Bert the Conqueror on Travel Channel) did a bit at our friend's backyard Abusement Park. They said he sat in his trailer while everybody set stuff up and only came out to film his bits. Really didn't want to do anything with the people there. Richard Rawlings of Gas Monkey Garage is known by hot rod friends of ours to be a real Richard.

I got to talk to Paul Newman several times when I would go to Indy Car test sessions. No one was there to hound him and beg for autographs so we had time to just talk and share the team spread. He invited me to join him in some chips and salsa. I asked him if the salsa was Newman's Own and he picked up the jar and it was Chi-Chis. He said "I own the damn team and they don't buy my salsa!"

I love Guy on TV but I realize sometimes you don't want to meet people you admire. I know a couple that were featured on Triple D and he was fine with them.

I've met a lot of famous people. The worst one I've ever met was one I had to escort around Afghanistan for 2 weeks. She only cares about her self and made that very evident when she told our colonel that she wanted us to remove our body armor because it made us look hostile. She was still allowed to wear her's though and so was her staff of 96 people. I won't mention any names because i don't want to start a political debate.

Chris Daughtry is another name for a donkey also. He was drunk one night and plowed into Kevin Harvic's fence. I got called out to tow his car away. The cops let him go because of who he was but the entire time he was being the most obnoxious person I and a total jerk to the cops. I thought maybe this was because he was drunk until one day I got called out to change a flat tire for him and he was the same way.

Kevin Harvic is a pretty cool guy though, as is Jeff Gordon. Jeff is probably one of the nicest celebs I have ever met. Jerry Springer is pretty kosher too.

I've met a lot of celebrities just from being in the service and living in NC, delivering pizzas, working for AAA, and being a mechanic... Everyone eats and everyone needs their car worked on.

Friends in the pizza business tell me that kid rock is one of the most awesome people you'll ever meet. They fight for deliveries to his house.

Way back in the day Paul Newman's car broke down and he was on the side of the road. Dozens of people passed and no one stopped to help or offer him a ride. My dad stopped and picked him up and gave him a lift to town. He was really nice and very grateful , and hysterical that no one asked if he was ok. He thought all the locals were thinking he was just another crazy famous person out walking in the sweltering heat in the middle of nowhere.

I recently listed Guy Fieri in another post about people who annoy me or something like that, and I am pleased to see that my hatred of him is not in vain. He's a supreme douchecanoe.

My kids and I met Adam Sandler. He was in the town where my kids went to school to film a movie and he played basketball at the local JCC that was right next to our kids' school. He was parked next to us and we met him as he was going out to his car. Very nice and down to earth, it seemed.

I've heard he is a big kid at heart. And from what I understand he goes and does things on his own accord, without news crews and a team of body guards. He just wants to go out there and give back and he doesn't want any publicity from it.

Omg. I am more jealous of that than anything I've read.

for reference, I had both a giant Paul Newman and Jimmy Stewart poster on my wall in high school. I was a weird kid. I would have been beyond psyched to have had the chance to ever met either actor.

I've had a few celebrity encounters, although I was generally clueless at the time:

My friend invited me to a dinner party at a home in the Atlanta area back in the mid-1990s. I ended up spending a lot of the time drinking beers and playing a video game called "Myst" with a bunch of dudes in the den. They were all nice and it was a fun time. I found out later they were the original members of Collective Soul.

I was at a food stand in Parc Guell in Barcelona with friends in the late-1990s, and we struck up a conversation with the woman ahead of us in line. I noticed she seemed fit, and she had a nice little dog we were all petting. After she left, my friend said, "That was cool." I said, "What?" "That was Martina Navratilova." We saw her again later, and it was definitely her.

I met Evander Holyfield at the Orange Bowl Parade in Miami in the early-1990s (when he still had all of his ears). I actually talked with him for a little while. He seemed pretty nice.
