DD12 had another 8am Dr appointment for her new contacts so we were up and out of the house by 7. She is doing great - 20/20 in the AM after she takes the contacts out. Next appointment will be in the afternoon to measure how much degradation there is during the day. Spent the rest of the morning at the zoo and had a really good time. Lot's of fun animal activity: Koala's actually moving (sometimes I have thought they were just stuffed!), new baby Meercats (Timon from Lion King), lots of other animals up and about. With all of our visitors we have been "seeing what they want to see". Today, we got to decide what animals to visit. :teeth: As an added bonus, I can make my kids walk fast from place to place so I got some decent exercise in :cool1: . Not making great food choices, especially in the evening. Need to work on that.

Food:
7a - blueberry crumble toast (2) w/ 2t PB
11:30a - 3c kettle corn (resisted DD10's frozen lemonade and DD12's churro)
1:30p - 1/2 turkey sandwich on wholewheat w/ havarti
4:00p - 6oz FF yogurt, 1.2oz almonds
6:30p - 3 taquitoes w/ salsa & 1T sourcream, margarita

Water: 104oz

Exercise: 3 hours walking at the zoo. I am going to count this as 60 minutes of good exercise since I made my kids walk fast between exhibits.

Thanks everyone for stopping by. DH suggested I could scrub the breakfast area tile next - uhm, NO! My shoulders and and arms are sore enough from the scrubbing. I am happy on my minimal weight gain. Now I have to get back on track and actually start losing weight again. :rotfl2: Eat right and exercise!

Another successful day!!! I haven't been to the zoo in years (I don't count Animal Kingdom ;)) That sounded like a fun day full of healthy food, exercise and most importantly.........FUN!

Other than DD's swim practice, we had nothing to do today - Nice! I do need to go to the grocery store and get more fruit/veggies and more low fat options. I also need to get into a better habit of planned snacks. I had a major carb craving today at lunch. I made hot dogs for the kids and ate mine w/o a bun, but I still wanted a bun. I ate my carrots, but the desire for the hot dog w/ a bun would not go away. I ate another hot dog w/ a bun. :sad2:

Food:
7a - GoLean Cereal, 12oz skim milk
12p - turkey hot dog, 12 baby carrots, another turkey hot dog w/ bun & sauerkraut, 12oz skim milk
6p - 1/2 chicken sandwich on wholewheat, 1c Chunky tomato soup
7:30p - 12oz skim milk w/ ovaltine (planned. ETA: didn't happen)
Totals: Cal: 1223, Fat: 44g, Carbs: 140g, Fiber: 20g, Protein: 78g

Water: 100 oz - drinking the last cup now. I am back up to 100oz, but still have to force myself to drink. Hopefully, it will become more of a habit again soon.

Exercise: 50 minute walk w/ stroller while older DD's had swim practice! :cool1:
ETA: didn't drink my chocolate milk, but went swimming instead. Did 50 yds each of freestyle and backstroke, 25 yds sidestroke and another 50yds freestyle w/ DD3 riding on my back. (15 minutes exercise + playing around for another 20 minutes or so) She starts swim lessons next week. She is really comfortable in the water w/ her water wings on, but now we have to get her used to no wings.

CJK: we hadn't been to the zoo in years either, but got new annual passes when we had all our visitors. I had forgotten what fun it is to just go for a few hours, especially first thing in the morning when the animals are more active. It is also a great place to walk w/ lots of hills, interesting things to see, and no cars. My plan is to take DD3 once a week in the Fall when the older girls are back in school. Should be fun for both of us.

Hi Anna, just getting caught up with you after my hiatus! That is great, only .5 in 25 days. I can gain .5 in 25 minutes! Sounds like things are settling down after all your company, your fast walking at the zoo sounds great. Keep up your good work, and thank you so much for all you support!

Amy

P.S. What is a hurricane? (I think I might have to get me one of those :rotfl2: )

P.S.S. Wanna come to Colorado and scrub my floors, they need you!

Hi, keep up the good work with your plan. The zoo was always one of our favorite spots when my kids were little. :sunny:

Sounds like you had a great time at the zoo. Congrats on the new Meercat. I've been watching Meercat Manor on Animal Planet, and those animals are a bunch of trouble! However, I can't resist watching.

Great job on the water drinking. I always have a bottle of water with me wherever I go. I can't stand being without it.

Sounds like you had a great time at the zoo :)
Well done for getting lots of exercise in!
The 5 lb should melt away & a bit more too :)

I'm jealous that you get to go to the zoo so much! We got a yearly pass a couple years ago and went twice... needless to say we did not renew!

Your totals still looked great even with the 2 hotdogs! Maybe next time you are having a craving like that you can just eat 1 with the bun and get it over with!

You are doing really good getting back into the exercise habit, way to go!

heck, i have a photo shoot saturday night (wedding)....maybe i'll take the kids to the zoo sunday morning....watch them feed the monkeys (relatives)....

No swim team practice this morning so everyone slept in (except poor DH. He had a 6am conference call!) Our late morning sort of set the tone for the whole day. Around 5pm, the kids decided they wanted to make dinner tonight - anything I don't have to cook sounds great :thumbsup2 ! So it is about 480 degrees outside and they make chicken and dumplings and a pound cake :rotfl2: . We finished dessert around 9:15p. They had fun making it and even got the kitchen cleaned up afterward. :cloud9:

9a - oatmeal w/ 1T slivered almonds & 1T homemade apricot jam (DH's aunt made it - very yummy!), 12 oz skim milk
12p - 1/2 chicken sandwich on wholewheat, 12 grape tomatoes, 12oz skim milk
2:30p - 2 graham crackers, 8oz skim milk
4:30p - 1/3c wasabi peanuts (major munchie attack)
7:30p - 1c chicken & dumplings w/ carrots & green beans (the veggies were mom's addition :rotfl2: )
9:15p - 1 small slice of orange pound cake
Totals: Cal:1966, Fat: 75g, Carbs: 219, Fiber: 18g, Protein: 109g

Water: 128oz - finally drank water w/o having to think about it today.

Exercise: none

Amy - Hurricane = rum, punch, rum, juice, rum, more sweet stuff, rum ... very tasty! :teeth:

Kate - Thanks for stopping by. I used to take my older two to the zoo all the time, but got out of the habit when they started school. I will definitely be taking DD3 a lot this fall. She loves it.

Jane - Somebody else was talking about Meercat Manor. I'll have to look for it. Meercats are just so much fun to watch :rotfl2: (actually a lot of animals are just fun to watch!)

Tracey - the zoo was fun and good exercise. We had a good time.

Amy - I knew I should have just gone for the bun in the first place, but I thought I could resist. I should know better. If I really want something, nothing else is really going to satisfy... :sad2:

Marie - :rotfl2: the monkeys are always fun! The elephants are usually up to something too :lmao: !

Wow, what a treat having the girls make dinner for you! DS10 went through a cooking spell - I'll have to get him back into it when he gets back!

The kids love Meercat Manor. It is on Animal Planet.

Glad to see you are back on your water drinking without it being a chore. It's always so easy to get out of a good habit and so hard to get back in!

What terrific kids you have!! Your good attitude is contagious.

I'm starting to follow your lead with the water intake. Now, I need to get your good attitude too! Keep up the great work! :cheer2: :cheer2:

Anna - you've got some awesome kids there!! That is soo cool that they fixed you dinner! Keep up the great work and sympathies out to the husband on a 6am conf call...I thought my 9:30am meetings were bad...wow.

Anna, don't let the name fool you. Meercat Manor is reality tv. On the show a daughter Meercat got pregnant and had babies. Her mother beat the heck out of her and kicked her out of the den! It does get sad when they get lost, injured or killed - its definately not for preschoolers.

What wonderful kids you have to make dinner for you!

Why is it that I can't seem to get ALL of the pieces right at the same time? :confused3 Today I drank plenty of water, I got a great walk in, but I ate badly (wanted to use a different word, but wasn't sure if it would get censured :rotfl2: ). Overall calories are fine, but the %fat is completely out of line. I know for me that if I am consuming a lot of fat, I am not losing weight. I need to focus more on LF/NF sources of protein (milk, yogurt, cottage cheese - gee, that is all dairy :rotfl2: ) rather than the PB and other nuts. They are ok occasionally, but I am eating them too often. New goals:
1. Limit Fat to max 35g (really would like to see this # around 20-25)
2. Minimum 5 fruits & veggies EVERY SINGLE DAY!

Food:
no breakfast -running late for swim practice
9:45a- 1.2oz almonds (stilll at pool for swim practice) - 16g fat
12:15p- 6oz FF yogurt, 11 peanutbutter pretzels (8g fat), 12-15 grape tomatoes (forgot to count them)
2:00p- small slice of pound cake (12g fat), 12oz skim milk
4:30p- 2/3c cheddar chex mix (5g fat)
7p- 1.25c leftover chicken & dumplings w/ 1/2c carrots & 1/4c green beans - fitday says this is 24g fat(!), but I am not so sure. It is made w/ LF chicken broth, canned chicken, and bisquick & milk dumplings. 3 Bisquick pancakes (bisquick, eggs, milk) is 9g fat and I don't think I ate that many dumplings :confused3
Totals: Cal: 1582, Fat: 67g :furious: , Carbs: 173g, Fiber: 12g, Protein: 77g
3 f/v

Water: 100 oz

Exercise: 70 minutes - great walk w/ jogger stroller while older DD's were at swim practice. There are some monster hills in the neighborhood by the pool.

Kid's cooking is great, but generally not LF :rolleyes1 . I am happy that they like to cook though  .

Scott, :rotfl2: 9:30a east coast is 6:30a west coast and mid afternoon in EU. DH is used to the early hours. What's killer is when there is an early EU meeting and then an Asia meeting that starts at 5 or 6p - that makes for a very long day.

Note to self: must have Tivo search for Meercat Manor - clearly we are missing something good here :rotfl2: .

Hi Anna, wow I need to teach my kids to cook! And my husband too for that matter... Hurricane's sound very tasty! Anything with rum thats sweet is a friend in my book. Ever had a Ferris Wheel? Malibu rum, pineapple and cranberry juices, yummy!

I hear ya about getting lean protein. Nuts are a thing with me. And to me nuts taste best with beer just like peanut butter tastes best with chocolate. And cheese tastes best on tortilla chips! It sounds like you had a great walk yesterday, I am needing to take an outdoor walk today but its supposed to be 103 so I might need to do the treadmill instead. But those "monster" type hills in your neighborhood are in mine too and I feel that is such a better workout, but I guess not if I die of heatstroke in the process! It sounds like you are doing great with food and exercise, keep up your good work! And thanks for all your support. Have a great weekend!

I wouldn't worry too much about the fat content of yesterday. You'll get it back down! As long as MOST days are within a decent range, I think you'll continue to lose. And remember, nuts are a GOOD fat, so don't beat yourself up! Now if all that fat would have been from cheesecake, that's a different story...

Great job getting that walk in. Hills make for an excellent workout! :thumbsup2

Really paid attention to what I was eating today and planned around the known non-healthy foods :rotfl2: . DH made eggs benedict today for "brunch". Very sweet, but I knew I really couldn't eat that "as is". I put my 2 eggs and canadian bacon on just one muffin and skipped the sauce all together. Also, DD10 made brownies and I definitely needed one of those w/ a glass of milk :rotfl2: . I don't know why they are on a cooking/baking kick - house isn't hot enough already so you need to turn the oven on!? Anyway, it is nice and I do want to encourage them.

Food:
11a brunch - 2 eggs, 2 slices canadian bacon, 1/2 english muffin, 1/2 grapefruit
3p - 2/3c chunky tomato soup, string cheese, 1/2c string beans, apple
7p - ham sandwich on wholewheat w/ mustard, 10 baby carrots, 1/2c cherry tomatoes, 12oz skim milk
7:45p - 2" square brownie, 8oz skim milk
Totals: Cal:1154, Fat: 34g, Carbs: 146g, Fiber: 16g, Protein: 73g
5 f/v

Water: 105oz

Exercise: 20 minutes swimming: 5 minutes treading water/sidestroke, 15 minutes "practicing" w/ DD3: kicking holding onto the wall, bouncing, turtle swim (she holds on, I swim), etc.

Anna

AmyM - My problem is that 5 of the last 7 days have had +65g of fat :sad2: I just need to pay attention better to my choices. You are right about nuts being good fat. I just need to not have PB and almonds and PB pretzels all in the same day :rotfl2: .

Amy - definitely going to have to try a Ferris Wheel - yummy! I really like walking outside, but I hear ya on the heat. DD's have swim practice from 7:45-9 and 8:45-9:30a. When I start my walk it is nice and cool. By the time I get back it is getting warm and then I have to sit on the bleachers on the hot pool deck. On monday I made the mistake of wearing sweatpants - I was boiling by the time we left the pool.

That looks like a good day to me. Your 7pm meal, was virtually identical to my lunch yesterday! I love how you combine your exercising with quality time with your children. Good job! :sunny:
