I am a little cross at my husband's "shortsightedness". I have a RSG week from Skyauction that when purchased, we had planned on using for March Break in Myrtle Beach. I got that notion because during the summer, there was lots of availability for March but of course, the minute I won the auction, the availability dried up. Now I am considering the wisdom of putting my family in an economy car and driving for 2 days to have a holiday, and then driving 2 days back again ( might be a little TOO much togetherness, youknowwhatImean!).
So now I'm thinking about using priceline to get some cheap flights and just flying to Orlando instead. By my calculations, I could probably get the flight and car rental for around $400 - $500. more than driving to SC, and I think that would be totally worth it to gain two full vacation days There isn't any availability in Orlando for March break either, but I could book a cancellable reservation via hotelkingdom, and just be prepared to "pony up" if still nothing at skyauction by the time we leave. I have already confirmed with skyauction that I can use my auction week for planned Nov trip.
The problem is that my husband doesn't want to brave the crowds in Orlando in March. I have already assured him that I have no intention on attempting theme parks, there are enough other attractions in Orlando that we could parttake of ( DQ, waterparks, WonderWorks, Ripley's Museum, etc.). My thought is that if all we are looking for is somewhere warm to spend a week on vacation, can't we do that just as well in Florida as Myrtle Beach? He feels that this quick, inexpensive "let's go somewhere warm" vacation is snowballing into a huge holiday. I, on the other hand, think that if I can keep the costs within a few hundred dollars of what we would spend driving for 4 days of our 9 days off, it makes sense to do that and have more "quality" time. Does my plan make sense to you?
