My Homemade PB&J "Uncrustables"

I was wondering about freezing the tuna salad too. I didn't know you could do that.

I have never thought of freezing them. Good idea to have on hand for last minute lunch ideas. Did you freeze fillings other than PB&J, like tuna? I also like the press n seal idea. I usually use a wrap-n-mat but when at the parks press n seal seems like a good idea on those, thanks.

About the bread breaking - I have only had that happen a few times, with thicker, hearty breads. I rolled them out a bit and that seemed to fix it.

Nope, I've never used any other fillings. Just pb with some type of sweet thing (jelly or honey). I want to try the tuna salad now too!! Maybe I will do that this summer while kids are home so if it is nasty they can eat something else, LOL. I like the tip about brushing the bread with butter to make it not soggy tho!!!

My DS only likes ham sandwiches. He likes them totally plain -- ham and bread. I wonder if this would work with ham? I guess I could freeze those as well. Hmmm...mayb need to try it.

I make all of my kids' sandwiches on Sundays for the school week ahead and freeze them in reusable plastic sandwich boxes. PB&J freezes great (I put PB on both pieces of bread--so it doesn't get soggy from the jelly). Ham and Cheese is another favorite too which also freezes great. HUGE timesaver for mornings when we're all trying to get out the door.

Great idea for folks with kids at home - or grown up PB & J fanatics like me. I would hesitate before I froze anything that had Mayo or Miracle Whip - but that's just me.

What do you do w/ all the crusts? I borrowed one from my neighbor and got stumped by that part. I was up to my elbows in crusts, and many pieces had PB or J on them, so you couldn't really dry them out for crumbs or croutons. I thought about bread pudding or oddly-shaped french toast , but then it got too difficult. It's too hard for me to toss all that bread!

Cut the circle first, then put the pb & j in the middle, then seal. At least that's what I do. :) Dry the edges out, zip through the food processor and freeze the breadcrumbs for meatloaf, or save some in chunks for croutons.

I try to make a loaf at a time and then put all the crusts back in the bag. I save it in the fridge for when we visit my parents ranch.
The cows just love the crusts!
But, obviously this would not work for everyone...

We tried making the "uncrustables" with wheat bread but we found that "bunny bread" worked best! My daughter who hates wheat bread, loved this part!:thumbsup2

Wow, that never occurred to me to cut the circles first. Duh! Thanks for the tip!

I bought a pair of Cut N Seal's from eBay a couple of years ago. It works great!

Thanks! DS starts school this year, so i will need easy lunches for him. :thumbsup2

Thanks!!! I just bought some uncrustables yesterday from Walmart. $5.98 for a box of 10!!!!

I'm going to head up to the Dollar store this morning to see if they have one of those seal things.

:)

Just to be clear ... the Dollar store carries the ones that make the half-moon shapes with one piece of bread. As with a lot of the cheap Chinese plastic crap that is sold there it is likely to break before school even starts. For about $12 on eBay (inc shipping) you can get a genuine Pampered Chef Cut-N-Seal that is made from metal and will work flawlessly for years.

I LOVE that you posted the pic of your sandwhich. It inspired me and today I got a loaf of bread and got busy with my Pampered Chef thingy... :)

I made PB&Honey, PB&J, and PB&Nutella...

I quickly found that I will need more bread, so next week, I'm gonna buy three extra loaves just for quick sandies and thanks to other posters for the ideas with the ham and cheese. I think this will be a BIG help when school rolls around because I HATE making lunches in the morning. Having them in the freezer will be great because they can defrost by lunch time and still be cool.

Love it! After 8 years, I'm finally using that kitchen tool!

You inspired me too! I made 30 PB&J "uncrustables" today and froze them. Thanks for posting!

Thanks for this great idea, I just went to Ebay and ordered the Pampered Chef Cut 'n Seal. It shipped this morning so I will be using it soon!!
My 20 year-old son loves the Uncrustables but without jelly so this will be great!! I can make him some to take back to his college dorm room when he comes home on the weekends.

Thanks again for sharing!! :thumbsup2

Okay, I bought one of these things last year and still have trouble using it. Sometimes the bread isn't big enough and crust ends up in the cut. What brand of bread are you using? Also, it only crinkles one side of the sandwich but it does seal it together. Am I doing something wrong? I'd love to figure this out as I want to use it again. I got frustrated one day and now the cut-n-seal sits in a drawer. Would love any help! :)
