My hands are so dry!!

ask your pharmacist for plain gylcerin -- it's like thick baby oil and use it every night. It works like a charm and it's cheap!

Husker lotion (I found it first in Nebraska, thus the name and Bag Balm. Both are/were used by people who worked with their hands. Check online and I bet you'll find them

call your doctor and ask for a prescription for the large size tube. It works better than 10 tubes of over the counter creams or lotions. It is also covered by prescription drug coverage. Believe me, no one sees more bad, dry, cracked, flaking, split, fissured, painful, bleeding skin than i do every day.
;) ;) ;) ;)

I use the Neutrogena Norwegian Formula and love it (although I have to get the fragrance free, cause the regular is very scented and will bring on a migraine for me).

I have not used vaseline/petroleum products for years - for the same reasons another poster listed above - I agree with the dependancy thing: I couldn't understand why I was using Chapstick constantly - I couldn't NOTuse it - then I switched to Burt's Bees and now only need it occasionally. Also, there is a product called Unpetroleum jelly - used it on my DD's tush to prevent diaper rash - it was good on my hands and feet but it is harder to find, more expensive, and greasier than the Neutrogena.

I use a couple of things (dpending what is on hand)

Hand lotions from Crabtree and Evelyn. All their hand lotions have the same base (the gardner's one) and you can get them in any of the smells from their products. My faves are savannah gardens, nantucket briar, and summer hill. But you can get them in a whole bunch of smells (lavender, etc). This one is more my everyday use.

L'occitane shea butter. This is for when my hands and really bad. Or I want something a little heavier at night.

Aveeno baby calming lotion (They also have an unscented one). This is an all over baby lotion that moisturizes for 24hrs and it's really great on the hands. plus it semms good. I just get it at my grocery store.

The burts bees lotion. I like the carrot one. If you have a Wild Oats supermarket you can get burts bees products there too.

:)

Well, I'm going to go off on a different branch here. You need a good soap. I too have very dry skin. I have used every lotion, butter, cream, prescription and non prescription available. What finally worked for me is soap. Yes, soap. I never thought that changing soap would make my skin feel so great. A few years back, my mother and I started making soap, and when we started using it, we were both shocked. I would suggest getting a good homemade soap, or specialty soap like you can buy at T J Maxx, or Marshalls. When you're looking for a good soap, look for ingredients like Palm Kernal Oil, or Coconut Oil, or even Olive Oil. These soaps are very moisturizing, and even got rid of my yucky heels that were cracked. Use it several times a day, and pretty soon, you won't need lotion. I use it in the shower, and don't even have to put lotion on my legs. I haven't made soap in a while cause it's very time consuming and a lot of work, but you can find good soaps out there. Look for basic ingredients, not Sodium Laureth Sulfate, or glycerin soaps. A good Oil soap will nix your need for lotion. And anyone who's used a GOOD homemade soap out there knows it's true.

:earsboy: Good ole vaseline petroleum jelly...my podiatrist (last summer) suggested I use it on my FEET. So I found out that by slathering VPJ all over your feet before bed w/socks, that it is all over your hands and you rub it all into your hands and PRESTO, now my hands are the smoothest that they have ever been in YEARS!!! So go for the cheaper version FIRST!! Save all your $$$ from buying all those costly hand cremes. If you find you don't think your hands are nice and soft from the VPJ, then spend the $$$ on super duper hand cremes....!!!! :Pinkbounc momrek06

Ok, it's not glamorous, but it works...bag balm. It comes in a green can (got it at walgreens for about $6). Works like a charm during the winter. Good luck!

I use udder balm. I usually put some on a little before I wash the dishes or clothes. It helps protect and you can definitely feel the difference afterwards. My aunt had trouble with cracking hands and so when we were visiting last Christmas, I gave her the tube I had...a year's gone by and she's continued to use it and hasn't had one crack!

I also change my use of hand soap in the winter. During the year, we usually use the Dial Antibacterial soap (in a pump) )

My MIL had the dial antibacterial last night at her house - I love how soft it is, but I won't buy antibacterial soap, ever (too many experts saying not too). Same with the Bath and Body - I got some as a gift last year, and used it - but cringed a bit using the antibacterial soap. :) I wish the normal soap I buy had such a nice texture!

There are a number of good lotions - I think my favorite is the Vaseline extra creamy. I also like the Avon brands, but I stocked up on large bottles of Suave lotion (oatmeal) when they were clearanced at Target for .54. Those are good too, but I definitely would go with the Vaseline creamy for severe dryness.

This weather in the northeast is a killer on my hands!! They are rough (DH thinks it's funny to call me alligator hands!) and sometimes they even split. I don't have ezcema or any condition like that, just wash my hands alot. Anyone have suggestions of some good hand cream??

Thanks - Lori

Order Boudreaux's Butt Paste (do a google and you can find the website).

Made for babies, the stuff works wonders for many things.

I know, you won't believe me because of the name, but trut me on this one.

I have the stuff for you!! I just started selling BeautiControl and we have this great stuff called Extreme Repair Hand Therapy and it is great great stuff!! I would be happy to send you a sample of it. It has a guarantee of 2-3 washings and it stays on. It has no scent (which I like that- hubby uses it too and I put it on after my perfume and you can still smell the perfume) and it isn't greasy. PM me if you want a small sample. I like it!!

Eucerin has a new cream out that is just for red hands. Works great. Not greasy at all.

My boys have really dry skin and eczema that flares up in the winter and their doctor gave me Eucerin cream for it. He said anything without alcohol in it because that's so drying, including their soap. If you do dishes by hand you may want to slather on some lotion, then wear gloves to do the dishes.

I use Olay Quench for extra dry skin, and it works great, and smells nice as well.
