My Guide is Retiring....

Really?? I didn't think that would ever happen! We've only purchased once but she's been great any time I've talked to her. We took the tour at BWV in 1999, said no. She called me maybe a month later to see if we had changed our minds. Nope. She said keep my card and call me if you do. Called her 4 years later! She was great to work with...bought BCV sight unseen in 2003. :)

It's cool that you had one that long. I'm on my 4th. The first showed us dvc in 96. He was gone when we bought in 98 from the 2nd. She sold us 4 contacts, the last 2 haven't really done anything.

She is my guide. Good for her. I enjoyed working with her.

Just got word that our guide is retiring after 20 years. Carol Ann DeAngelo

Hi D J

If you are in need of a great replacement guide for Carol Ann , I suggest you ask for guide Patty Douglas, we have really enjoyed her as our guide since 1997.

It's funny that you should mention her. My dd did a professional internship at DVC and she suggested both Patty and her husband Bruce.

Interesting. I didn't think (by board rules) that we were allowed to call our guides by their real names. I guess this really is an exception to the rule, given they are retiring.

My real question is this, and I have always wondered. Can you request a particular guide in a situation like this or are you hard-assigned one? It seems I remember that you can request a change if you don't like your guide but I don't recall ever seeing if you can request a specific guide.

Thanks!

We have Patti also and have enjoyed working with her for the last almost 20 years ... and 12 contracts. Very pleasant to speak with.

I believe you can request a guide, after all they want you to be happy and buy more points:teacher:. If someone is unhappy and doesn't like working with someone, they are not going to buy. In the end, they are selling a product and are not going to force a guide onto people that they don't want to deal with. Many have been unhappy and have changed guides.

My guide retired a couple months ago - Byron Helgeson. Only ever spoke to him on the phone, but he was always so pleasant!

Carol Ann has been our guide for 17 years and many add-ons! She always reminds me of how cautious I was about the whole scheme when I first bought in! I did the tour in April of 1997 but considered it and only bought in the September, during which time I ran the numbers with a cynical 'this can't be as good as it seems' mentality ;)

Maybe Carol Ann is going to be a stay-at-home mom since her child must now be about 3 years old I think. Anyway, I wish her all the best and will send a card.

We purchased through Byron in 1994 in person. Very nice guy and easy to deal with. Answered all questions patiently, We also did an add-on by phone years later, and again were very pleased with him.

I got a post card from Carol Ann too. Did our first purchase and an AKV add on, but can't say we ever heard from her. I would love to add on some BWV points just for F & W, but would go resale for that. Now if only the Commonwealth would come up with a golden handshake in the next year or two to fund it! :stir:

When my guide of 10 years retired (Julie Hughes/Veras) I was really upset. She kept in close contact with all her clients for lack of a better world.

We were "assigned" a new guide. Well let me just say I never heard from him and had to call DVC to see just who was assigned. Not good.

Well last summer my brother was with us on vacation and looked into the DVC. We went over to SSR and met Al. Well, from the minute we met, I knew I wanted him as my "guide". He's easy to speak with, doesn't press you for immediate decisions, just a really nice person. So I actually called and requested Al Boada to replace "what's his name" and it was done.
