He was in so much pain last night. I stayed up until 3:00am with him. I pretty much cried all night long. He finally looked at me and put his head in my hands and I knew I had to let him go.
We (my son and I) brought him to the veterinary clinic where my sil works and I felt better knowing that she was there for him at the end. I couldn't go in. I had a hard time letting him go. But they told me it was for the best. His tumor had doubled in size and he could hardly walk, sit or lay down, he was in pain no matter what.
That was the hardest thing I've ever done in my life.

Brenda - I am so sorry for your loss. :grouphug:

You sound like a wonderful fur-momma.

I'm so sorry, but I agree -- you did the right thing for him. It is very hard to decide, isn't it? *HUGS*

I am so sorry. :grouphug: I was never a dog lover until last week when I bought my children their first puppy. Now I treat him like one of the family. I can only imagine how much pain your in. Hope you feel better...

:grouphug: I was so hoping that he would have hung on for awhile for you. When I put my greyhound down at 14 I was such a slobbering mess that the vet told me to just go home and they would send the bill..........he never did ( he was a great vet) I wanted so much to be there but emotionally I just could not. You are a wonderful family to have given that greyhound a loving home (they all deserve them) I hope in time you will be able to find it in yourselves to adopt another one. I love the photo of him and your son and it will always be there to remind you of what a great dog he was...... :grouphug:

I am so sorry. I'm glad that your doggie isn't in pain anymore. But it still hurts SO badly, doesn't it? :grouphug:

:grouphug: so sorry.....

sitting with tears in my eyes remembering over 30 years ago when we
had to put "Snappy" to "sleep". It is so hard..but you did the right thing :grouphug:

It's so hard to let your beloved pet go. You did the right thing.

I'm sorry for your loss. It's so hard to say good-bye to a pet you love.

So sorrry to hear that, Brenda, I recall your post a few days ago.'s Know well he is there at the bridge, sprinting around, like any good greyhound does.......

Rainbow Bridge

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers.
Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

I was thinking about you today and was going to PM you to see how things were.
I'm so sorry you had to let him go, but please know you did the right thing and remember that you gave him a wonderful life.

Thank you so much my dis friends. Its been such a rough day for both me and my son. I know I did the right thing. He's out of pain and that is the best thing for him. He was a wonderful pet, friend and family member.
