So I was shooting a great baseball game on Saturday when sure enough click click ....nothing.... my Canon 20D was possessed

First it would auto-focus but not snap a shot.... removed the battery and put it back in -- no problem .... snap snap snap... i go to check my shots -- nothing on the CF card -- it was snapping away and not writing ...

So needless to say the camera is on it's away to Canon land...

Since the Mark III is out I figured I could finally pick myself up a Mark II at a good price. I was looking around ebay there are a couple in pretty good shape with about 20,000 to 30,000 actuations ...

1,500 price range what do you think ? -or- Pay 2,200 for a refurbished with 0 actuations and a hands on check from canon ?

I would go for the refurbished myself. That way you know it is good, if you buy straight used, you might find yourself sending it off to canon land to join the 20d...

given my canon lens long drawn out problems how do they handle refurbished by canon if there is a problem? i noticed someone ( adorama maybe ) has a 90 day guarantee but do they send it back to canon or give you your $$ back if there is a problem with a refurb, anyone know?

If you could know for sure that he refurb had ZERO snaps that would a no- brainer IMO, but HOW WOULD ONE KNOW for sure?

Same with EBAY, I just have this feeling that anyone claiming 30k is really taking several k off of the top.

That'd be a stupid thing to lie about. The shutter actuations count is in the EXIF data. Have him send you a "sample" RAW file and check it. It's possible that he'll hack the file, but probably not likely.

I did not know that the count was in the EXIF data...

Is it this way in all Canon cameras?
Can it be reset?

I cant find that count in a 20D Raw File:sad1:

It's not actually zero but close to it -- i think Canon puts like somewhere between 20 - 50 on the cameras they refurbish.

I've been told that it is on all Canon DSLRs, but it is only correct on the 1 series cameras.
