My friend has just got back from DLP and told me.....

The cake was brought out and after singing ''Happy Birthday'' the cake was taken away, and they only gave them a slice of cake each and not the whole Birthday cake
She said it wasnt a nice cake, it was like chocolate mouse...

I think that is shocking, considering that she had paid quite a bit of money for a birthday cake! You would expect a full Birthday cake.

When we go to DLP in November, we will order a Birthday Cake in CAFE MICKEY...... Do they do the same thing in cafe mickey or do u get the full birthday cake there? if they only give u a slice i might not bother as it is quite a bit of money just for a slice of cake!

I'm sure I read on a trip report here before that they give you a slice and you can take the rest away in a box

I'd have just asked for a box to take mine away in if I paid for it. Seeing as blurb says you pay for a cake not for X amount of slices.

I remember another member here saying the same thing about the birthday cake at the Princess meal, they only got a slice of it.

But you do get the whole cake at Cafe Mickey, same at the Plaza Gardens tea party.

We got the full cake in Cafe Mickey, i even had it boxed up so i could take the rest away.

Same here, we ate as much as we wanted then the waiter boxed it up and we took it back to our room. I had a iced sponge cake but instead of jam and cream it had chocolate in the middle and from what other ppl have said they seem to have had the same.

Thank Goodness we are having Birthday Celebrations and Cake at Cafe Mickey then
I will definately be ordering a cake now! I got put off when my friend told me about her experience at the Princess Meal.

She did eat in Cafe Mickey one night and said that the atmoshpere was brilliant so i cant wait!

That CM cake sounds LUSH!! We are going for mine and my BF's bday, but I don;t think a whole cake between two of us would be a good idea seeing all the other food we'll be eating on our trip!!

We had a birthday in Cafe Mickey in May, absolutley excellent experince and we didnt even cut the cake in the restaurant but took it home for later and had a yummy desert instead! you will love it and although slighty pricy and the food isnt amazing the experience is wonderful and i would pay them money just for that!

We did the same and our CM gave us a new cake topper and candles for it too

That is really not on you wouldn't expect to pay for a whole cake and get a few slices - I seem to remember reading a report where someone mentioned their cake had holes in it where they thought previous candles had been. Not what you expect !

Thats just bizzare isn't it as presumably they then have a cake with slices out of it so they can't roll it out to the next table with slices out - so what do they do with the left over cake....serve it as dessert to unsuspecting customers??

Very poor service especially with the price at Auberge already being higher than the other restaurants.

Make me wonder if they do reuse the "candle" cake and keep another back to slice.

We were at DLP from 2-6th of this month with our DD who turned 3 and we decided at the last gasp, the night before, to book a cake as we hadn't realised this could be done before we went.

At Cafe Mickey, they checked how many candles were needed and then it was brought out lit up with a lovely pic of Minnie, Pinocchio, 15th anniversary etc the characters (at that point Mickey, Prince John, Smee and Friar Tuck) danced at our table with our DD (Mickey was giving it laldy as we say up in Scotland - it was hysterical - I can't watch the vid back now without being in hysterics as Prince John made gestures as if to say 'he's cuckoo!')and helped her blow out her candles. The waitress had everyone clapping and she got a little cardboard crown on her head. They relit the candles for her to allow us to video her blowing them out and again so we could have a pic taken (by our waitress) with Mickey... We each had a slice and the remainder was put in a box and we took it home, albeit gingerly, that afternoon on our plane. The cake was lovely (sponge with yellow icing and choc cream!), the staff were fantastic, the atmosphere incredible and all for just 15 Euros. The best money I've ever spent!

I'd highly recommend it! We were going to try Auberge when we return at Christmas but given the experience of your friend, I may think twice and just go back to Cafe Mickey....

Prior to the Princess Meal we had a birthday lunch for our DD (then 4) at ADC and we got the whole cake (it was very rich chocolate - a bit heavy for kids I think).

Maybe they didn't think your friends wanted the rest. I suspect the staff or the bin got the rest as the desserts there are fixed so it couldn't have been used for that.

The cakes are a bit expensive but as the price you pay includes the fuss by characters and CM's (which sometimes is just priceless) I think it is well worth the cost.

TootieBear765 - I'd definitely recommend a visit to ADC !

do you actually see them cutting the cake? They might be taking out a whole one..blow out the candles..go behind the scenes and the slices you are getting are from another half eaten cake????
Nah only kidding but it made me wonder!! They wouldn't be able to get off with that!
Besides birthday cake is over rated!!
