There is a nice walking/biking/running trail about 20 minutes from my house. First time trying it out today.... 3.5 miles in 65 minutes. So, that averages to 18.57 minutes/mile. Not great but not too shabby for my first time, right??? I've decided, if nothing else, my legs and butt are going to look great in a few months. Muscles currently hurt that I didn't know I had.

Good for you for working out! I haven't been back to the gym in so long. I'm dreading it, really. lol

Congrats!!!!!!

Look into the C25K.com program, you can also find a Thread for 2008 which has helped people just starting out with walking and move into running a 5K in no time :)

Best of luck to you, you just took the first steps towards a healthier life!!

Good Job!! I was walking last year at about 19-20 min mile. And I thought I could never walk any faster. But slowly I did and now a 14 min mile is not killer to me. I really enjoy walking outside. I usually go on a bike/walking trail that is right along the water. It's been a little frigid to do with my 3 year old in her stroller. And I'm really looking forward to 40+ degrees in order to do it again. Your muscles will get used to it in no time. Look up some good stretches that target the areas you are getting sore. It will make a huge difference to do those stretches after you finish walking.

Good luck!!

I am so jealous. It is not really outdoor friendly for me here right now. I'm mostly stuck on the treadmill. Keep at it and you will find this is not such a bad thing to do. Work in some core strengthening and definitely stretching and you will be feeling and looking fine in no time.

2nd walk today with 2 friends...

6 miles in 105 minutes=17.5 min/mile

First of all, I never thought I would be able to walk 6 miles at one time yet but we were talking and just kept going. Second, I've improved my time even with walking with others. And third, I felt REALLY GOOD after walking this morning.

I am signing up for the Minnie's 15K in May and the 1/2 in January!

Congrats on the increased distance just remember to not increase too fast. Don't want to injure yourself. Is a great feeling each time you get out so enjoy.

Look forward to meeting you at the 1/2!
