We just came back from a wonderful week in Fort Wilderness. We had a Great week there and I miss it already. Let me start out with the cast : Myself a 52 year old obsessed planner, my 30 year old son, his girlfriend also 30, my daughter 29 and my 4 year old grandson, whom this vacation was buillt around. I wanted to make this a birthday that he would never forget, and I believe that I achieved that:banana:
We stayed in a cabin in the 2600 loop, and it was wonderful to see all of the decorations that people had up for Halloween. We rented a golf cart for the week, and that was Evans best thing for the whole week. If I would have known that, I could haved saved a ton of money and taken him to one of the local golf courses here !!:rotfl: :rotfl:
The weather was great--warm and sunny except for Thursday when we had a good old fashion thunderstorm that lasted for about 1 hour.
On Sunday we went to the Magic Kingdom, and I can't believe how wonderful it is to see it though a little ones eyes. It was the first of many grandma happy tears as he would call them.
We did not wait for more than 10 minutes for any ride the whole day, we could not believe how little the crowds were. Evan got to ride Dumbo with Stitch, and that was a magical Moment for me. We did get a real Magical Moment, but more about that later.
On Monday we went to Epcot and we rrode Test Track twice and Soaring three times. We also made it to the other side to eat our way through the countries. And eat we did with the Food and Wine Fest. going on. We sampled so much food between the 5 of us, that I long for the Beer Cheese Soup as I am writing this.
Tuesday we had 8 AM reservations for Breakfast with Donald Duck, and I was worried that we could get there in time. We caught the bus @7:30 and we made it in plenty of time. When we were in line for the Safari we were told that we had to wait for the next jeep, which was odd because there was plenty of room on the one that just left without us. Little did we know what was in store for us next. We were put in the front of the next jeep, and the driver made the announcement that we we the family that was picked to be the Grand Marshalls in the parade later on in the afternoon. Our Magical Moment was apon us, and again the grandma tears were flowing. Evan also got to choose any stuffed animal he wanted from the gift shop, and we also all got free ice cream the rest of the day. We rode on two cars in the parade, and that expierence will be with me forever. We also all got Mickey/ Minnie ears with our names on them. If I live to be 100 I will never ever forget that Magical Day.
More report to follow~~I have to go back to work tomorrow and I need to get things ready~~~~~~~~~~~~pirate: pirate: pirate:

Love your report, I'll be taking my 2 year old grandson this February.

Thanks for sharing your trip!! I can't wait to hear more!

Wow!

That is so cool I would love to be picked for something like that. I think DW dreads it because I would SOOOO yuk it up..... (I mean I thought I was supposed to dance with Minnie).....;)

We love the beer cheese soup too & my DS6 still says the Golf Cart is his favorite ride at WDW (followed by the boat, monorail & train- hasn't mentioned a real ride yet). :rotfl:

I am glad you had a great time.

Could you tell if you were in one of the newly refurbished cabins? I would love to see what they look like. We will be there Mar 2008 book-ending our DVC in the cabins.

Regards,

Wow!!! Congrats on being the grand marshals of the parade!!!

I loved your trip report, you could just feel the happiness pouring out of the words. Thank you so much for sharing!

 That is AWESOME!

Hey Colson see what you have to look forward to?

Congrats on the MM. I have a feeling that I will shed a lot of tears next week watching my children.

Since we had never been to the cabins before, I really could not tell you if we were in a redone cabin. I know that they had a whole loop blocked off up the street that they were redoing. We saw new beds by every door. And every day there were lots of workers around.

Wednesday we went to MGM. Of course Evan was over the moon when he saw Lightning McQueen for the first time.  He had been asking at every park if this is where Lightning lived. We actualy got to see him when he drove off, and Evan then realized that he was really real. I love the wonder of Disney!!
Thursday was our day to swim and hang aroung the fort because we had tickets to MNSSHP. All I can say is I can't believe how wonderful the park looked. The fog that they make really gets you in the mood. We had great seats for the parade and I cannot explain how cool the Headless Horseman was. The only bad thing is that it's been 1 week since we were there and I can't get that song out of my head that they play during the parade.:rotfl: :rotfl:
Friday was another day to rest and go to Downtown Disney. We bought the Photopass, and that was a great investment in my opinion. We had about 206 pictures on the disk.
Alas Saturday came around too fast, and we had to get back to the real world. We had hired a limo service (Murray Hill) and I cannot say enough about our driver. He picked us up from the airport and drove us back. A great man who know more about DisneyWorld than anyone else I have ever met. As Evan told him "Tony your the best".
On the airplane my daughter and I started to make plans about doing the Disney Cruise. Right away I was back in planning mode:cool1: :cool1:
I want to thank everyone on this board for helping me plan this dream vacation. I was truly clueless on how awsome the Fort really was. You all answered my many questions, and I am very greatful for all of your help. I hope that I can also pay back the kindness and help others realize the magic of Fort Wilderness.

:thumbsup2 Another great trip report. I was just thinking we have ressies for Thanksgiving then nothing until 4th of July. I know that's not gonna happen lol. I better start making some ressies.

what a wonderful, magical trip!! How amazing it must have been to be picked for the parade!!!

I'm so glad you took the time to share this w/us  . We are going in November with our 4 year old and reading about your grandma tears, brought tears to my eyes ;) . I soooo wish my mom and dad could of went with us this year because I fear this would of been the only year they could of went (health wise) :sad1: . Thanks again for sharing your wonderful report and glad you guys had a magical vacation!! :wizard:

And here I thought your trip report couldn't get any better!

Yes, we try to keep the amazing Fort all to ourselves, but word does get out ;) It sounds like you had an absolutely amazing time, and as ntSammy said, I can't wait to have a little one of my own to turn into a Fort Nut!

I loved reading your report Debbie. You make me want to be a grandma! I think Ft. Wilderness is the best place to vacation with kids. We always camped when ours were little.

Thanks for writing!

Jennifer

I loved reading your report, it made me recall all the times we've gone when the kids were little, and seeing things through their eyes for the first time, there really is nothing that compares to it. We're still going..and my oldest is 27....and "our little guy" who took his first trip at 6 weeks..is now 16 and 6"2"
I keep telling my older guy to get married and have a little Disney tike of his own.. becaue I secretly long to take a grand baby to Disney too! Reading your post reminded me that I have to start nagging him again!;)

Thanks to all of you for your kind words. I guess it shows how much I love being a grandmother:love:  I do regret that my mother never lived long enough to enjoy any of her great grandchildren( she would have had a total of 4) But I do believe with all my heart that she smiles down on all of them daily, and hopefully she was watching our Disney Magic as it happened.
As far as spreading the word about the fort~~~I have been back to work 3 days, and I think my co-workers are already sick of me gushing what a great place it is!!! If I could only convince them that this is where we need to hold our annual meeting:dance3: But on the other hand~~I don't want to push to hard for fear it will be all full when I want to go back, which may be sooner than I had anticipated........I would love to see the Fort dressed for Christmas.
Ho Ho Howdy sounds mighty good................
~Debbie

So happy that you all had such a wonderful time. The best part of a WDW vacation is the Fort. :woohoo:

The only bad thing is that it's been 1 week since we were there and I can't get that song out of my head that they play during the parade.:rotfl: :rotfl:

Sounds like your trip was AWESOME, thanks for sharing with us.
If you think 1 week is bad, wait until next year when you start to get close to Halloween and that booming HAPPY HALLOWEEN from the parade keeps booming in your head. My only concern on our last trip I hope they didn't change the song:woohoo: . Sad but true.
