We just got back from 13 days at WDW last night. This trip has been my longest stay thus far and I definately could have stayed a few more days:lovestruc!!! We had such a great time that I want to attempt my first trip report. I will figure out how to add pictures later on if I can.....

This trip was just going to be DD and myself and it would be our first stay at AKV. DD loves animals so I decided that this would be the perfect place for her for the first 6 nights of our trip. DD just turned 21 and was away at college so this trip was partly a birthday celebration but mainly quality catch up time since DD was away all year. I used to do this with DS every May but he graduated college last year and is now working. As much as I begged him to try and come, he could not which made me sad as he is the real disney nut in the family and I just love going with him. (More on that story later!!)

I decided that since DD loves animals, our focus for this half of the trip would be Animal Kingdom and that I would book 3 tours: The Wanayama (or how ever it is spelled) safari tour which includes dinner at Jiko's, the Wild Africa Trek and the Backstage safari tour. We were very excited to do all three

We took the first flight out of NY and were at Jambo by 10 am and of course our savannah studio was not ready so we decide to eat at Mara's and head off to AK for a few hours. AK was not too crowded, the weather was perfect and we had a great few hours at AK. Anyway, at 2 pm we were tired so we headed back to Jambo and our room was ready and off we went. DD and I were in awe of our beautiful savannah view. Lots of animals to see so we were in our glory with our view!!

Since it was just the 2 of us this trip (DH was home working and this was going to be DS first time not going to WDW in May in 5 years :sad1:) the studio was perfect for us.

We were pretty tired so we went to the pool for awhile and then at 7:30 headed to Bomas for dinner. After dinner we did some viewing of the savannah with night goggles and spent lots of time looking at the giraffes, explored the lodge and then decided to call it a early night. It was a great first day.

Day 2 was going to be a lazy day by the pool and then our The Wanayama safari tour and then dinner at Jiko's. But since I really have to do some unpacking this will be continued......:)

That sure is alot of tours! Hope they were all wonderful! Looking forward to your TR!

So as I said earlier, Day 2 was going to be a lazy day for us. This was going to be our non park day. DD slept in a bit so I made a pot of coffee, sat on the balcony and enjoyed watching the animals. We actally had a great Savannah view studio. Room 5585. It was a bit of a hike to the lobby but most times we just took the closest elevator to the pool level and walked to the lobby. I really don't think the walk was really as long as I thought from reading other posts.

Once DD woke up we had breakfast/brunch at Mara's and made our way to the pool. The pool area was great, we enjoyed the pool for a few hours and then had to get ready for our 3:45 meet time for our Wayanama Safari Tour.

We were down right on time at Jiko's to meet our guides and the rest of the group (there is a max of 12 people) only to learn the only other party of 2 had to cancel due to a delay with their flight. DD and I had a whole tour to ourselves:banana: It felt like a real VIP tour. So we had two guides who quickly brought us to the safari jeep. The guides were really quite knowlegable and we really learned alot. The safari was about 90 minutes and brought us all over the Jambo and Kidani savannah's. We saw sooo many animals at such close range but the best moment was in Kidani when we literally had to stay idle in the jeep for about 10 minutes as the giraffes wandered in front of the jeep and then put their heads in the jeep. What a treat!

Once the safari was done we were on our way to our Jiko dinner. Since it was a part of the tour, we were having a 3 course meal paired with wine. So when DD and I were given the menu we assumed it was a pre fixed menu as we had a selection of 3 appetizers, 3 entrees and 3 desserts only to learn that we do not pick but get everything on the menu :scared1:. I was both in food glory and gluteny! The food was delicious and the wine just as good (DD was not as fond of the wine but remember she just turned 21). During the whole meal, the chef came out before each course to explain what each item was. We really felt special (especially since we were the only 2 that night that did the tour!) It was really a very special night.

After dinner DD and I sat by the firepit and enjoyed the evening. Sitting by the firepit was the the icing on what was a beautiful day. We were both really enjoying AKV!! Day 3 was going to be a busy day for us. We had to be at Animal Kingdom at 8:20am in order to meet out group for the Backstage Safari Tour, we were then planning on spending a few more hours at AK go back to the room for a mid afternoon break and then off to EPCOT for the evening with dinner at Nine Dragons. All about that tomorrow and more!!!:)
