My experience calling today for reservations

Thought some people might be interested to know what happened to me. First of all, I called today to make sure tomorrow was my day to call, and OOPS I had miscalculated, it was actually today!! :faint: So there went my 7 am calling plan, it was already 9:30 when I called. :bitelip: The woman I got was very helpful, after getting my reservation number to double check I could make them today she asked me what was the most important one so I said Chef Mickey's, she then proceeded to tell me NOTHING WAS AVAILABLE!!! Not one stinkin' table the whole morning. Ugh! So as I was picking my jaw up off the floor she said WAIT I see something, okay, we can get you in at 10:15. I just could not believe that exactly 180 days in advance there was not ONE table available, craziness I tell you! Then she said to go in order of importance because at this point people arriving earlier than me have already been snagging these reservations for days now so it's an uphill battle. She managed to get me everything I wanted within a half hour, which apparently took quite some effort, we were on the phone for 45 minutes or so! She knew a lot about the special things that could be done too, she suggested the candlelight processional and told me what day to call back for that. I was really happy with how helpful she was! At the end of the call she told me the dining plan has exploded the past couple of years and now they are thinking of going to 9 months in advance for reservations, WOW!!! She said she even tells people to book meals for vacations they aren't even 100% sure of yet because they can always cancel later, but that just made me think it's part of the reason why it took her 10 minutes to find a single chef mickey's for christmas time, what the heck???? :scared1: Well anyway, that's my report. Good luck everyone calling and I hope you get someone as nice and smart as I did! :goodvibes

I am so glad to read about a positive experience booking reservations with Disney dining. If you got her name, you could say thanks to her on our thank you board.. Sounds like she went the extra mile with helping you.. Bravo on getting your reservations.

Thanks for sharing your story!

My 180 day window is opening up next Sunday, and your experience has me even more scared that I won't be able to get the ressies my family wants! :scared1:

Yeah, I know exactly what you mean. I would be really happy if they would change the booking time to 9 months; that way I won't look like such a nut for planning our trips so far in advance! :thumbsup2

What day are you checking in at the hotel?

9 MONTHS! :scared1: It's hard enough trying to plan 6 mos. ahead coordinating park days with meals. This ADR thing has gotten completely out of hand. There must be a better way.

I'm so glad everything worked out for you! Dining has been rather hard to deal with these days!:thumbsup2

Yeah I have been reading this board daily since the day I joined and absorbing all the tips, I even read on one of the threads about the "trial run call" to make sure you know which # to dial, it's the right day, etc. Which turned out to be a darn good thing since I figured the date wrong, OOPS!!! :( I have just been getting so anxious about it because I had NO IDEA reservations were going to be this hard to come by SIX MONTHS IN ADVANCE!!! But the lady did give me a great tip to pass along, have your reservations in order of priority, not by date. For example we wanted Teppanedo (sp?) and she said "Oh forget that one honey let's do your character meals first and come back to that cuz it's easier to get!" LOL she was really funny. :rotfl: Just try to stay calm and get everything written down in advance, thank god I had my list handy because she asked so many questions and I had to look up the info quick about which days and times, etc. Good luck!!

Oh and P.S. have your credit card handy, she asked me for my # for the princess storybook dining and I had to run across the house to get my purse real quick, I didn't know some of them you have to give your cc # when you make the reservation.

Where is that thank you board? I really want to thank someone and I do have the name. Please + Thanks

Yeah, I went by order of importance when I called yesterday. I was very fortunate to find everything that I wanted. I did make a few reservations that I will dump eventually as my plans firm up, but I grabbed what I could and what I thought would best suit our needs.

For me, it was Le Cellier on the 18th first! I hear such tales of woe on getting that one, so since I made it later in the trip, on purpose, I had hoped that my luck would hold out, and it did!

You are battling the fact that all of those folks going to MouseFest were booking way before you had a chance at the ADR dates you are working with. Most MouseFester's know the system and how to work it.

I don't understand why 9 months would make any more difference than 6 months? :confused3 Other than to really make it impossible for people who book vacations less than 9 months to get restaurant reservations.
Of course I long for the days when you could walk up and get right into Cinderella's castle.

That's what I think, too. I mean COME ON, how many people know 9 months in advance where they want to eat dinner??? Yes the people on these boards do but that means MOST of the families going to disney have to tell their kids, I'm sorry kids, we can't eat with Mickey or the princesses. I think that stinks. :( But I'm glad I found this place so it won't be me saying that!!! :lmao:

Dec. 12 (that's the Friday, right)? I thought for sure I counted right and it would be Jun. 15 (tomorrow, Father's day) to call but she said it was today??? :headache:

After reading this, I just called...It is June 15th...Not today, June 14th....I got so excited/scared for a moment...Good for you that you got lucky...

I am so nervous that we are not going to get what we want after the Chef Mickey experience.

One point of perspective....
My dear Corey went to WDW about 100 times before she and I met. She grew up in FL. She never knew about park tours, character meals, free movies at FW, carriage rides, fireworks cruises or 90% of the rest of the stuff that is offered to WDW guests. She knew about the park rides. She knew about Grad Nites, MNSSHP, and MVMCP. Her family ususally packed lunches from home and therefore she rarely had a meal on property.

Kids know what their parents tell them about. If you tell your kids about the character meals and sell it to them as the coolest thing ever, then yeah, they are going to be disappointed when you can't book it. But, if you let information get to them on a need to know basis of what you are capable of delivering, then they only know the magic that they are presented with from the basic experience and are not hurt and disappointed when the other stuff never happens for them.

This is not to say that I don't know that that hurt feels like. When I was 4 years old, I went to MK for the first time. It was "sold" to me by my parents as Mickey's Home. I fully expected to meet Mickey. I didn't. I carried around a hurt feeling for 30 years. Yes, it took me 30 years to actually go on my own and be able to meet and hug Mickey Mouse. It was the most awesome feeling ever to make my sad little inner 4 year old happy.

Ramble over, but I just don't see why parents tell their kids about stuff that they may not be able to deliver on.

I just called too, and was also told tomorrow. Now I'm breathing a little easier and can go with my original plan of calling in the am. :goodvibes
