And now that I've got your attention ...
On Thursday, I went to a Learning Annex seminar called "High Impact and Savvy Design for Under $1,000 with Doug Wilson". I thought it would be interesting to hear what Doug had to say for himself.
The seminar started with a video of Doug's work both on and off "Trading Spaces". The infamous room -- remember crying Pam? -- got a round of applause. And then Doug walked out on stage. Suffice it to say that the camera does not do Mr. Wilson justice. He is quite the babe in person. I wish Ty would give a seminar (be still my pounding heart). And he was very personable and very funny. I have to admit it == Doug is a very nice guy and he won the hearts of everyone in the room (which appeared to be about 150 women and 10 men).
He started off wanting to be an actor (he studied Shakespeare), but ended up in interior design. He said he does high end design as well as "Trading Spaces" and some of his room on TS are lower budget concepts of his high end designs. He is very defensive of "crying Pam's" room. Personally, I never thought that room was that bad.
As for the other cast members -- Doug said Hildi is one of his best friends, but sometimes he doesn't even understand what she's doing (like trying to paint carpeting orange). He said Laurie's baby looks suspiciously like Frank (ooooh), and that she is building a house in Mississippi that has ceiling fans in every room (his theory is that she is shipping all those ceiling fans to her house). He never said who his least favorite designer is, but his least favorite room was that "Graveyard Room" designed by Kia. I have a feeling that he doesn't like Frank, by what he didn't say. He said he doesn't like designers who have backgrounds in painting and think that they can decorate a room just by slapping it on the walls (that leaves only Frank, btw).
All in all, it was a fun evening. And who knew that 160 other people had nothing to do on Saturday night either?
