So this is my second attempt at a pretrip report (the first one I gave up on after a day because I was so intimidated by all of the wonderful and creative writers out there!:sad2: ) First and foremost, I’m not a talented writer but I do love to babble and rant and I do love posting pictures so I’ll do my best to make this creative and fun to read! :thumbsup2

Where: Pop Century for what else?? Free dining!!! :woohoo:

Highlights to be expected: MNSSHP and KTTKT! :cheer2:

Background:
This trip was initially entitled “Do-over trip 2008.” Last year, I took mom for her twice in a life-time, dream Disney vacation. She had been 20 years earlier and always wanted to return, but finances prevented her dream from materializing. I had made several trips over the years, but had never stayed on property. Being that a full-blown massive Disney vacation was on my top-priority list, I began to plan and blow money like there was never ever going to be another Disney vacation for either of us! :thumbsup2 Several months of planning and spending later, I ended up with a sinus infection the day before we left (the kind that makes you want to detach your head from your body,) and mom contracted strep-throat and only went to the doctor the day left:sick: ! However, nothing was going to stand in our way! Sick, tired, ill, and just plain dazed and confused- we enjoyed 6 nights, 7 days at POR, Magnolia Bend- Oak Manor, Room something… I remember it was a garden view, very convenient to the parking lot (although we didn’t have a view to the parking lot,) from September 29, 2007 to October 5, 2007, and I loved every pit and piece of it! Even after resort hoping to check out other resorts, this one is still in my top two.
Here's mom finding our first towel animal when we entered the room:

Moving on, despite us not feeling well at all, we really went on nerves, medication and excitement. We had a blast but really couldn’t enjoy it for all it was worth from being so sick! Here are just a few pics from our trip.

We loved MNSSHP! That was definitely the highlight of our trip. As you can tell, by the end of the trip, we were incredibly pooped and contemplated napping on Ellen’s Energy Adventure….again…just so we could make it through our day!

Now you see why we needed a do-over trip! I knew that even if it was only for a few days, we had to go back this year and experience the parks healthy and happy!:)

Up next, Mom backs out of this year's Do-Over Disney Vacation leaving me to plan my first ever solo-trip!

Yep, in my last post I forewarned that mom decided to back-out of this year’s trip. She used some excuse of not being able to find a cat-sitter or something… :sad2:
Who knows what the truth was, but I think we can all agree that cats are self-sufficient and one of the many reasons they can make great pets, and therefore this could not be the real reason she was backing out. So 4 months after the trip is paid in full, ADR’s made; 2 months after KTTKT and MNSSHP is booked and paid for, AND after non-refundable flights are purchased, she declares “I just don’t think it’s a good idea”:sad1:

So what’s a single diser to do??? Plan a solo-trip? princess: After struggling with the idea of a solotrip, I was reminded of a post I had made on another thread called “Single, but will not make solo-trips.” Coincidently, the OP lives just a few miles from my mom… it really is a small world afterall. Anyways, here’s the post I made on that trip regarding solo-trips

I'm changing my answer. This past weekend I went to Orlando to meet up with family so that we could enjoy some good quality time together. :goodvibes Due to my cousin's health, they left a day later than what was planned. I, on the other hand, arrived on time-early Friday afternoon. By Saturday, I was itching to head over to WDW so I told myself that I would just resort hop and enjoy the rest of my day taking in new sights. Strolling through the Boardwalk, I finally found myself at EPCOT's international gate. Despite not wanting to waste a full day's admission on just a few hours, I couldn't help myself. Like a good little disney addict, before I knew it, I had approached the cast member and said "just one please" :cool1:

My first reaction wasn't to run joyously to futureworld before it closed, instead I called my friend so that I could share my experience. I wanted sooo desperately to have my friend with me:worried: . I sat down and watched Tony Orlando for a few minutes, only to take notice of all of the cute elderly couples swaying and singing. I decided to move forward...I"m sorry, I need to correct myself: the cm asked me to move so a family could all sit together (which I gladly did but it still made me feel like a bafoon.:headache: )

Moving along, I tip-toed through the ws and eventually got bored. Me = bored at my happy place:confused3 . Something wasn't right. I then did something that shall only ever be mentioned on the Disers Thread of Shameful Secrets. I left EPCOT and while I won't say what I was doing, :rolleyes1 , let's just say that little wild hair bit me on my tail and I decided that I was headed over to the P&PP!:yay:

 Not so fast.... as I was riding on the Disney Bu...I mean as I was leaving EPCOT::yes:: I finally resigned myself that while I can go to DTD by myself, I just didn't like not being able to share the magic with the people I love most.

Moral to my twisted saga: My new answer is "I'm there with ya Keneke."

I had the chance to make a 1-day solo trip and I didn’t like it. I can do Universal IOA and US by myself, and I love every minute of it… but any park in WDW is so much more special and , at least for me, I can’t imagine not sharing it with someone else. :flower3:

Desperate, I finally decided on asking anyone and everyone to go with me.

Female Friend #1- I’d love to go, how much will it be?
Me- $940.00, but that includes airfare, hotel, food, MNSSHP, universal day trip, park-hopper passes, and KTTKT!
Friend #1- I’ll pass.

Male Friend #2- #^&*! Yeah! Isn’t that where the $&!*&#) mouse is???
Me- :scared1:
*a couple of days later I lied to him and it went something like this*- yeah…about September, I just don’t think I can swing it afterall… maybe some other time.
For the record, I felt terrible about lying to him. I really just couldn’t stomach the idea of spending a week with someone who refers to my passion as a $Y*@($ mouse! Ya know what I mean???

Male Friend #3 (yep another male friend)- Of course I’ll go with you! I think it’ll be great!
Me- Really?? Awesome!
Friend #3- I’m really looking forward to finally beginning our lives together, what an amazing way to experience our journey.
Me-:scared1:
*a day later I was honest with him about my lack of interest in him, after all, he’s 23 years old! He no longer wants to go on the trip.*

Dad-(yep, I resorted to asking my dad)- Really?? Teehee, that’s just great, I can’t wait to go, I haven’t been since 1997 and just didn’t think you wanted to spend that much time with me
Me-

So a new plan begins!

Today is one of those frustrating days where nothing is going the way I think it should :confused3

1) The Flights- I had purchased the flights through Hotwire- 2rt tix on Delta, $320.00 with all of the junk fees. :thumbsup2 Not as good as the $9.00 Spirit Air fare, but I digress. I contacted Delta about changing the name on the Ticket from Mom to Dad. Their response was "no problem, just contact hotwire and they'll take care of that for you." So I call hotwire and was put on hold...40 minutes later, nothing. I hung up. I went back to hotwire.com and sent an email to customer care- and received a personal response within 10 minutes! Unfortunately, this is their response "No. We cannot do that." :scared1: wth?! Even though mom isn't going, I still have to purchase another seat for dad. To make matters worse, airfare has increased by $60.00 since I last booked. Oh well, at least he's booked.

2) AAA- I think this will be the last year I book through AAA. I think from now on I'm going to be my own TA and look for codes. They're so difficult to deal with via email, and their offices are only open M-F 9-5. Yep, next year, I'll be dealing directly with Disney pirate: Atleast I know I'll be in control of things and you know how we disers love having control over our trips :rotfl:

3) I don't guess there's a 3rd bad thing! Awesome! :thumbsup2 I'm really letting my trip planning consume me... I love addictions.

Tonight I'm going to work on my travel binder. I'll post pics when I get it done!
:goodvibes

So here is my itenerary:

Saturday 9/13-Delta direct-flight to MCO from ATL, arrival 4:10 PM
Pick up rental car (no ressie on that yet, I'm waiting until the last minute so I can get a killer rate via priceline.) Check in a Pop. 8:30PM adr at Spoodles. I'm very excited about Spoodles as I cannot wait to see the Boardwalk at night and I love mediteranean food:goodvibes

Sunday 9/14-
EPCOT Day!
I love Epcot! The MK is my favorite, but Epcot is right behind it-and depending on my mood, it can even be a tie! I had originally planned to do a split AK/DHS day with 50's PT for a late lunch- but according to TGM, I've planned my park days all wrong so I have to change my adrs. :sad2: Maybe I'll try Biergarten??? :drinking1

Monday 9/15-Animal Kingdom- I'll be honest, AK is my least favorite park. I always feel bad for the animals for being trapped. This is the same reason why I don't go to aquariums or other zoos. I don't even like going to the chinese restaurants that have fish tanks! With that being said, is there really such a thing as a bad disney park??? :confused3 Afterall, I do love EE  and I love ks

Here's something else I have only admitted to on the Disboard Thread of shameful secrets: I don't like the shows at ak. I didn't care for them at all even though I love all of the other WDW shows :confused3 Nemo, the Musical is kinda creepy-but I do love the artistry of the costuming.

After a day at ak, we'll be heading over to Ohanas for dinner.... I hope, if I can change my adrs :rotfl: Afterwards, I may try out one of those little sea-racer thingies!! zoom zoom! ;)

Tuesday 9-16-8:30 Keys to the Kingdom Tour  I've always wanted to do this, I think one of my favorite shows is the one the TLC did "Undiscovered Disney" or whatever it was called :) I cannot wait for this!! I even made t-shirts with iron-ons I got from the Creative Disers Threads! One says Daughter -that's for me;) and the other one has "dad" on it. I can't tell you how many times we get that "isn't she a little young for you"-look:lmao:
Those creative disers are so unbelievably talented! I'll post pics of my t-shirts over the weekend!

After the tour, we'll head back to Pop for a nap. I learned my lesson last year, when I went commando from 8:00 in the morning all the way through MNSSHP:scared: - before I fell over...then the next day I couldn't enjoy myself as much...so this year I'm opting for a big fat nap! ;)

After nap time, we'll get dressed up in our costumes for MNSSHP!!! I have no idea what they they'll be, but my dad is the one who wants to get really dressed up!):thumbsup2 I loved MNSSHP and am really looking forward to doing that again!

I had thought about being the kitty cat this year, but I think I would look a little too risque with the kitty stuff on. What do you think????

I can't believe that this just wraps up Tuesday! I have the rest of the week to cover!
I'll have to cover the rest of the itenerary later on. Let me know what you think! :yay:

Happy 4th of July!

I hope everyone had a very safe and happy 4th of July! :goodvibes I'm hoping that this time next year, I'll be living in Florida-it looks like it's either going to be Tampa or Orlando, so maybe I'll be able to be at the Magic Kingdom for 2009's Independence Day festivities, and begin a new tradition!

Now back to the itenerary....

Wednesday, 9/17
Wake up super-duper early for breakfast adr at 1900 Park Fare. I've always wanted to stay at the GF, but until I mary that independently wealthy man of my dreams, let's face it, it just ain't gonna happen!:sad2: Therefor, I'll settle for second best, dining at the GF instead :thumbsup2 After breakfast we'll be heading over to Universal IOA for a day trip- followed by Blueman Group at 8:30 PM. I loved the show so much a few weeks ago, that I just knew I had to come back again. This time, it'll be poncho-section, row AA, dead center:woohoo: This was a bit of a splurge for me, but it really is a great show.

Thursday, 9/18
DHS DAY!- I gotta admit that this park ranks pretty low on my disney totem pole, but I've heard such wonderful things about TSM, that I can't wait to check it out! I also want to try RNR as it was closed for refurb when I was there last year:rolleyes: I'm thinking that this park my gain rank after I try these two bad-boys out:thumbsup2 Now here's the problem, I would like to do a Mama Melrose Fantasmic Package, but can't seem to figure out how to go about doing this on the DDP. I think I'll check out the DDP thread after I finish up here and see if someone doesn't know the answer ;)

Friday, 9/19
Free Day!-I know, I can't believe it either, but it won't exactly be a do-nothing day. After-all, it'll be my last full day in Disney :sad2: I just thought we could use this day to go back and experience anything that we wanted to again! I do have an adr scheduled for WCC for 7:30 PM. I figured that no matter what we ended up doing, we could make it out there for that. I'm kinda concerned about this one, since I've been hearing kinda bad reviews of it lately. I don't know...:confused3

I'm off to work on my organizer. I might actually get to take pics of it finally too! Until next time....

Hello, Rebecca!

I'm no expert, but your plans look wonderful to me! Don't stop your PTR just keep adding to it. I'm here to read it. You've been to WDW a few times, anything you write can help newbies and people like me who don't get to go that often.

It's great that you get to take your DDad with you. My DDad was a big Disney fan. Enjoy every minute with him while you've got him on this earth!

I will be leaving WDW just as you arrive, darn it!:headache: I would have liked to meet you and your DDad. Maybe some other time!

Keep up the good work!:thumbsup2

Hello:)

I am usually just a lurker on the Trippie board but I wanted to encourage you on your report. You will be there right before us...we are a group 10 staying at POP and while it does get crazy, I know what you mean about sharing the magic.... it is just not the same alone...glad you and your Dad will have some great memory making!

I also had to comment about the shows at AK...I am right there with you on that...I just am not a fan but that just means more EE time for me!:woohoo:

Excited to hear more and here's hoping you have a Happy and HEALTHY trip!

Stephanie

Awwweee I hate you'll be leaving as I'm coming in! I love meeting other disers! :goodvibes Where will you and your family be staying?? Did you manage to get the free dining too???

Thanks Stephanie! Thanks for the encouragement! Alot has been going on with the trip planning and if I had updated every single time something changed, then we'd all be really really confused :crazy2:

Wow! 10? That's amazing! I'm a firm believer in "the more the merrier" :) I love being with a big group of people, that way when a couple of people want to do something, then they can go without making anyone mad!

Okay, I'm about to take some pics and finally update this pretrippie! :woohoo:

btw, I can see you lurkers ;)

Okay, where did I leave off?? Oh yeah, I was going to try to rearrange some adrs! :magnify: As seasoned veterans, what do you honestly think happened 60 days prior to arrival AND free dining? All together now: “nothing.” Yep. I called 407-WDW-DINE (don't we all have it memorized,) felt completely awesome talking to Mallah (pretty kewl name I thought) then one by one started going through my adrs that I wanted to change and increasingly grew more and more anxious:headache: . I did manage to get some things changed, but I’m not happy about the results. Here are the changes:

Sunday 9/14- I was able to make the change to Biergarten. Here’s a tip I learned back in college- if you get a large beer, you can get it to go and carry it around the ws…but think carefully before doing this. Do you really want to carry around a large hot beer in hot weather?? I don’t think so. On the other hand, I’m a big fan of adult beverages so I plan on having a large beer anyways and just drinking the whole thing before it has time to get hot.:drinking1

Tuesday 9/15- Here’s a little Disney secret for you, as often as I’ve been to the world, I’ve never done a character meal. I’ve always wanted to, but am usually so strapped for money that I can really only do counter service in the parks. Having free dining, I decided that it was very important that I schedule at least 2 character meals. 1900 pf and CP. I was really looking forward to CP because of all the wonderful things I’ve heard about it. If you remember from my itinerary, this is the day that we’re doing the kttkt. They serve lunch at Columbia Harbour House. It never even occurred to me that we’d be eating lunch at 12:30 therefore we probably wouldn’t be hungry for a 4:35 dinner ressie  Unfortunately, dear sweet, kind, dream-dashing father pointed this out to me. I went from having a 4:35 CP ressie....to 7:00PM @.........are you ready???

Tony’s.:headache: Tony’s people!:sad2: I went from cuddling with Pooh and Eeyore to eating sub-par Italian with the only hint of its namesake is the fact that it’s in the mk! Oh well, I keep reminding myself that it’s free and that it won’t matter because I’ll be at the mk. :thumbsup2

Thursday 9/18- I couldn’t get the fantasmic package. I’m not surprised, but I am disappointed. I went with the next best thing- 50’s prime time café. I am a fan of the joint, so I can’t be mad about this one either. Hopefully one of my cousin’s will have the key to dad’s liquor cabinet. :drinking:

So those are my updated adrs. A lesson learned would be not to wait until 60 days prior to the trip to make ressies, especially for 2 people. I hear people scheduling for 3 or 4 people fare a little better.

I did manage to make my little itinerary cards.
itenerary.jpg

Sorry for the quality of the pic- just had my phone handy. I made the cards a lot smaller than last year and laminated them too. I put info that’s absolutely necessary on there- dates/times/park-hours (if needed,) reminders of parades and the most important attribute- ADR Confirmation # & TIME! Yeah, it helps to know when you’re supposed to be there too. Last year, I forgot to put my adr times on the cards and showed up an hour past my adr at the Concourse Steakhouse. I’m not big on time while I’m on vacation. This is the only annoying aspect of the ddp.

Up next… the travel agent yelled at you, wha- what???

I cought your trip report today and wanted to say HI!! I too am going to be leaving as you are arriving. :sad2:

"I had thought about being the kitty cat this year, but I think I would look a little too risque with the kitty stuff on. What do you think????"

I think that is too funny and would love to hear how Mickey reacts to that one:lmao:

I can't wait to read more.

Hi Rebecca! :wave2: I didn't realize that you haven't done any character meals yet. It seemed like I did nothing but character meals during my trip last year, as I did: LTT, CP, Chef Mickey's, Akershus, CRT, and 'Ohana with Lilo & Stitch. Nearly once a day for a 7-day trip. The best thing about buying the DDP last year was not having to worry about whether I could afford to pay the extra money for the meals since I had already paid for everything up-front. (Strange way of thinking, I know...) I'm a bit more restrained this time, as we're only doing Akershus, LTT, CP and 1900 Park Fare (Cinderella's Gala Feast). I can't wait to meet Prince Charming! If I wear my birthday button, I wonder if he'll give me a birthday kiss... :rolleyes1

Can't wait to see you when we all meet up at JR on Sept 13!

I read on here how bad the ADR situation is in September. Yep, DH and I are eating for free. I made all my ADRs early on. When we make up our minds, there's no changing them. I'm sorry you had to 'settle' for some that weren't your 1st picks.

We are staying at POR. My PTR link is in my siggie, if you have time. I haven't been to WDW in 19yrs. DH hasn't been since he was a small boy! It will be our 10th wedding anniversary that week.

I like your great tips!:thumbsup2 :thumbsup2

Hey Care! I'm glad you made your way over here! :goodvibes I was really excited about doing character meals. I think I'm going to have to call cr and try to squeeze in a character breakfast somewhere. Is it considered "odd" for a grown woman to be this excited over characters?:scratchin

I imagine if you wear your birthday pin, you might be able to convince Prince Charming to waltz with you! I think I'd rather meet that hottie -Prince Caspian, but that's just me. Oh what I wouldn't do for that Prince... :rolleyes1
I forgot that it'll be your birthday during the big trip! How exciting! :yay: I'm definitely going to have to buy you a celebratory drink! :thumbsup2

I stayed at POR last year and LOVED it! I took my mom who had not been to wdw in 19 years as well! What a coinky-dink! :)
I wish I could afford to stay at POR again this year but no such luck. I just subscribed to your ptr, can't wait to start reading and catching up! :thumbsup2

No, it's definitely not "odd" at all for a grown woman to be really excited about characters, Rebecca. Last year, I lined up for photos with every character that I met at restaurants and throughout the parks. I'm sure there were some parents who weren't too happy, but I paid for my ticket as well, and I was darn well going to wait my turn for a photo. Don't let anyone dissuade you from doing a character meal, or a meet-and-greet in the parks. I'm rooting for you.

Ah yes, Prince Caspian... I've seen photos of him that have been posted on the boards, and he is a fine-looking man. I'd take him over Prince Charming, as well. However, Jack Sparrow would be my personal pick for a kiss from... I'm sure he would make me swoon... :goodvibes

Enjoying your pre-trippie so far. Thanks for sharing. :thumbsup2

We will be arriving as you are leaving, getting in on the last days of free dining & first days of F & W Festival. Good luck getting your Character Meal, try calling 45 days out when people may cancel their adrs.

Let me know when you hook up with Capt. Jack... The four of us will go out on a double date ;)

:rotfl:

Hiya!!
Anything new in your plans or is it smooth sailing until you leave now!!??

:wave2: Hi everyone! Sorry I've been MIA at my own pretrip report!

I'll be honest, alot of little things have been getting in the way of my planning.. you know the kinda stuff I'm refering to, someone not getting approved for vacation time, someone submitting an appeal along with a letter begging superiors to let him off anyways, worrying about where the play-money is going to come from.. fun stuff! :rolleyes1

Dad had put in his request for leave and the sheriff's department that he works for did not approve his leave:sad2: . He is a deputy assigned to the Immigration Customs Enforcement unit.. there's only like 8 of them in this unit. Anyhow he wrote a letter to the commanding officer begging him to reconsider and approve the leave.

While waiting on the decision, it was basically understood by everyone involved that there was very little chance of his time being approved. So we looked at the calendar and realized that he could still fly in a few days after I arrive, and at least spend Wednesday - Saturday with me. Figuring we had a solution, I began making single-girl plans!

First single-girl activity - dis-meet- 9:30PM Saturday night @ Jellyrolls :woohoo: We even had the designated driver picked out (aka shared-taxi  )

Second single-girl activity - deleted

Third single-girl activity - Care to take a guess on this one?? DING DING DING! You are correct! More prancing around wdw with the handsome stranger :lovestruc

I actually did have most of my solo-time at wdw planned... I was soooo excited about it too! There was very little time that I would have been alone ~ only when I really wanted to be :) The rest of my time was going to be spent with disfriends :goodvibes

Well.... as my luck would have it, just when I was getting used to the idea of how romantic it would be to meet some handsome disney-lovin' stranger (who happened to live in Orlando, no less) I get a call.

Dad- "Hey punkin' guess what!"
Me-
Dad- "I'm going to Disney World!! They approved my vacation time!"
Me-:scared1:

I know.. I know, I'm a terrible daughter!!! I'm just completely selfish at times, but I got over it when I saw how truely excited he is to be going to wdw. :goodvibes

So now I'm still doing the dis-meet at jellyrolls with my girls (Care included ;) )
and still going to the AC with handsome stranger... I'll just have two dates that night instead of one ::yes:: (I hope the handsome stranger is okay with this :lmao: )

I have a late night at work tonight but am actually getting really really excited about my trip! 23 days until I'm in Orlando (I think we're going to US or IoA?) and only 43 days until WDW for a week :cheer2:

Next step - waiting on the perfect hotwire rate for car rental!
